BREEDERS' CUP TURF SPRINT BY HANDICAPPER'S CORNER

 Breeder's Cup Turf Sprint'
Churchill Downs November 6th Race 6 Distance 5 Furlongs

A contentious race with no shortage of talent in the Turf Sprint. No real standout in this race which makes it wide-open. The turf sprint has changed in distance from running down the hill at Santa Anita going six and a half furlongs to five furlongs....... a true test of speed on the turf. The defending winner of this race is California Flag who is entered this year. He might not be the favorite after his Woodford Stakes race at Keeneland in which he finished 11th. The favorite might be the winner of the Woodford and the track course record holder at Churchill Downs...........Silver Timber.....

1. Silver Timber......... Claimed for 25k dollars and put together a string of eight wins which include five graded stakes races....... and earned $450,000 and change. Great Investment!  He is trained by Chad Brown. His last race was a disappointment in the Troy Stakes race at Saratoga....... finishing 5th. He looks fit and if he is on his game a scary horse in the race with talented horses.  One of the ones.......

2. Chamberlain Bridge a scary closing sprinter in a race filled with speed. He finished fourth in the Woodford having been beaten by only one and a half lengths. He loves the turf course at Churchill Downs.

3. Unzip Me...... trained by Marty Jones and Rafael Bejarano rides this Harris Farms owned horse. One fast horse and rarely folds her hand down the land.

On Oct. 14, Unzip Me had her first breeze since winning the Sen. Ken Maddy at Hollywood on Sept. 30, going an easy half-mile in 53.40 on the Hollywood turf course for Marty Jones.

4. Rose Catherine.........Trained by Todd Pletcher with Javier Castellano in the irons. The Breeder is Janavar Thoroughbreds and the owner is Paul Pompa Jr. Rose Catherine is 6 for 6 in turf sprints since the Turf Amazon. The 3-year-old filly breezed a half-mile in 48.27 seconds over the Belmont training track on Sunday, ninth fastest of 55 at the distance.

5. Czechers....... Trained by Mark Glatt and P-Val is the jockey. The breeder is Scott Goldsher and the owner is Branch, Allen and Susan.

A Long shot in the race Central City hung on to finish a respectable second in the Turf Sprint!..... Fast.... with speed!

12. California Flag......the defending champion at last year Breeders' Cup......... down the hill at Santa Anita. California Flag is trained by Brian Koriner with Joe Talamo in the irons. The owner and breeder is Hi Card Ranch. California Flag won the BC Turf wire to wire last year. The Hi Card Ranch homebred has made 2 starts in 2010 finishing third in the Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai and winning the Green Flash at Del Mar. One note is ...... check out the race Quick Enough has a troubled trip and with more racing luck ..........might have won the Green Flash. The 6 year old gelded son of Avenue Of Flags has won 9 of 19 starts for the earnings of more the 1.1 million dollars.

13. Bridgetown....... the son of Speightstown out of Ellesmere by Tabasco Cat looked awesome winning his maiden race.
