Sunday At Del Mar

Good Afternoon ......... Yesterday Bets total $20 to place on Ribat in the Second Race. In the feature $20 win and place on Battle of Hastings. The 9th race I caught a long shot on Gold Star $20 place. ROI $188 + $905= $1093. The track looks like it is favoring speed.

Race 1          Six Furlong Maiden Special
I hate to be chalk charlie but I might just watch Avid the daughter of More Than Ready trained by Richard Mandella make her career debut. She has put together some blazing five furlong gate works at Del Mar. Big Tiz with a race under her belt should improve. Righteous Rennee finished 4th but she adds the blinkers and looks like she will be more focus down the lane. Take note that is a hammered down in her first race by the bettors.

              1. Avid

Pick 3  1. Avid... Righteous Rennee and Big Tiz
            2. Kingman Kid with Banderia Union with  Wolfgan Valley
            3. Melon Lazer
            Cost of Ticket  $9

Race 2          Six Half Furlong (12K) Claimer
Take note this race condition is non winners of two a wide open claimer. The track bias the first week looks to favorite rabbits on the lead or near the lead.

1. Bandeira Union freshen ups: shortens up, claimed by O'Neil and almost won this condition his last race.

2. Wolfgan Valley......... trained by a cagey guy....... and now drops to non winners of two...... a stone cold closer... but will be with the mid pack horses and in a better stalking position at this level.

3. Kingman Kid facing winners for the first time but as you can see no monsters here!

Race 3          Six Furlong Maiden (40K)

              1. Melo Laser .... Check out the works.........

Race 4          Six Furlong Claimer (25K)
Take Note these are non winners of 2 for a claim of 25k sprint today fills this card. This is a wide open competitive contentious field of rabbits and mid pack closers.

1. Usually Super trained by Gaines and owned by Harris Ranch coming back after having needed her last race. Gaines is hot having won 4 races out of 6 in the first week at Del Mar..... Super was washy in her first come back race and is a stone cold closer fighting the speed bias at six furlongs.

2. Phone Marybe has some gas in her tank but looks off form to me.
Her first race at Calder was awesome ......... look at the speed figure... and if she was fit and sound she would have crushed this field....... but that was more then a year ago and never has run her race.... a disappointment....

3. LA Devine.......... the best thing about her is the under rated trainer who sends them out fit and ready.... she looks off form...

4. Torrey Cliffs I thought was going to climb the allowance ranks but she has been running in company over her head!

5. Misinjennious......... looks like a contender and facing winners for the first time after breaking her maiden in open company at 40k.

6. Costa Marta has gas and has been trying this conditions for three straight races........... 4 times the charm!

7. Victory Dash drops against tougher but has raced in this condition before getting a respectable 2........ one of the contenders..

8. Fair Chase drops out of  50k turf level.......... double drops and has gas!

9. Pay For Play......... another speed rabbit.... like the breeding .... been facing quality runners....... the filly to beat.....

       1. Pay for Play  2. Victory Dash 3. Usually  Super

Race 5         One Mile Optional Claimer

             1. Diferentkindagreat 2. Cigar Man  3 Distorted Dave

Race 6         One Mile Sixteenth Turf Maiden Special

1. Sky Fox looks to be the speed  and stretching out to 2 turns.

2. Royal FJ a professional maiden....the beaten favorite in seven
straight races... maybe today......... your call!

3. Battle School needs to have a little racing luck because his last race was a nightmare of a trip. He most likely would have won will he waited to find a hole down the lane.

4. Big Cozz.... off for a year but has solid long works in the mix. He has some back class that makes he a contender.

5. Blazing exits some fast maidens and has been freshen up..... a major contender at this distance......

             1. Battle School  2. Sky Fox  3. Blazing

Race 7         Six Furlong Allowance

             1. Jet Blue Girl

Late Pick Three  1, with 1,4,5 with 3,5,8

Race 8         Bing Crosby
1. E Z Gentleman looks fit and in form and maybe it is his day to beat Cost of Freedom...........note the speed figure in the Triple Bend Grade 1 at Hollywood.

2. Sky Cape the last time he won was on the turf and Teddy was the president....... looks like he needs a race before I unload......

3. Scenic Blast..... Down Under Horse of the Year and Smith takes the mount. John Shirreffs trainer of Zenyatta enters this classy horse. My concern is will he run on the poly track.... my bet is that he will show up for the big dance today.... but right now I'm leaning towards others....

4. El Brujo adds blinkers and has some gas. He has 2 Grade 3 wins at Turfway and Keeneland. Bob Baffert trains and sends out 2 horses in this race.  He has change trainers and please take note that as a 3 year old he won the grade 3 Kentucky Cup Sprint. Del Mar seems to be a speed bias track lately and that is the upside for this horse........ A major contender.

5. Cost of Freedom is the horse to beat........ I hate to be Chalk Charlie........... and if the track bias is speed favoring he will be hard to run down.......... and he has already beat My Summer Slew and EZ Gentleman.......Hat Trick Time ?

6. Smiling Tiger facing older horses but has talent....... he looks fit and in form coming off his big win at seven furlongs in the Laz Barrera at Hollywood. He is a talented 3 year old.

1 Cost of Freedom  2. El Brujo 3. EZ Gentlemen

What was that at the gate by Cost of Freedom?

. Race 9             Six Half Furlong Maiden  (25K)

1. Night Justice look good on the track and was well back before he acted up and got Tyler hurt.......... He looks live

2. Morganouska has many work outs starting in March......... miss the month of May but I like  the long work out tab . The pedigree is by Storm Cat out of a Relaunch mare............ looks live to me
Many contenders in this bottom feeder of a maiden ........ those are the 2 horses I like!
