Daisy Devin

Daisy Devine disposed of pacesetter Grandacious leaving the far turn and held sway in the lane to win the $500,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II), a key prep race for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), by a half-length March 26 at Fair Grounds.

Ridden to victory by James Graham, Daisy Devine benefited from a freshening since a tough loss in the Silverbulletday Stakes Jan. 22 to record her first stakes win for owner James Miller and trainer Andrew McKeever. The daughter of Kafwain , a $5,500 Keeneland yearling in September 2009, defeated eight rival 3-year-old fillies in the 1 1/16-mile Fair Grounds Oaks.

Joyful Victory

Favored Joyful Victory went to the front of the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) class when she dominated the $125,000 Honeybee Stakes (gr. III) by 8 3/4 lengths in her first start of the year at Oaklawn March 12 (VIDEO).

Ridden by Mike Smith for Rick Porter's Fox Hill Farm, the Canadian-bred Joyful Victory made her initial start for trainer Larry Jones, who has compared the Tapit offspring to his star filly, Eight Belles, the 2008 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) runner-up. Jones, along with his wife Cindy, have trained the past four Honeybee winners, including No Such Word, Just Jenda and Eight Belles.

This was the first stakes win for Joyful Victory, who ran fifth in the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) in her last start Nov. 5. Tony Dutrow trained her as a 2-year-old. Joyful Victory wore blinkers for the first time in the Honeybee

Plum Pretty a well bred daughter of Medaglia D'Oro by A. P. Indy is trained by Bob Baffert. She press the pace then drew clear in the Sunland Park Oaks and smoked the short field by 25 lengths.

Summer Soiree a daughter of War Front is trained by Larry Jones. She had no trouble on the synthetic surface debut in the Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park. She was coming off a awesome 10 length victory an a highly regarded allowance win at Oakawn Park in her three year old debut. Check her out!

Zazu the gray daughter of Tapit burst onto the scene at Santa Ania after begining her career at Del Mar and Hollywood Park. On January 15th she flew at the wire to fall a neck short in the Santa Ynez Stakes. Zazu then with a race under her belt was not denied in the Las Virgenes. That was her second win in six starts. I love her look and style of running....... a stand-out.
