FRIDAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

           SANTA ANITA PARK

Race 1

If the race stays on the turf then Tashzara shortens up in distance for Patrick Gallagher with Martin Garcia calling the shots. She looks like the one to beat. Great Passion switches surface and moves up a ton with a somewhat troubled trip her first race. She is a major player. The field must catch the speedy filly Candace Gold. If this goes to the dirt track then she might be hard to beat on the lead. Cute N Sassy trained by Richard Mandella will press the pace sitting off the rabbit Candace Gold. The first time starter for Bruce Headley Forever Nada looks live as she has solid workouts and workouts that are long which I like.

        1.  Great Passions  2.Candace Gold  3.  Cute N Sassy

A live first time starter!  Forever Nada

Race 2

I usually do not play these low level races because of the horses current form. Sunny Peace if fit will most definitely press the pace in a race with little front speed. Sky Brite Miss is coming back after a lay-off. She has the back class coupled with a pressing pace style to take the whole banana. Twodollarstowin will be the first to reel in Sunny. I like Akeela in her last race. I was disappointed. She should love the added distance. A quick turnaround for the trainer in this spot.

       1. Sunny Peace  2. Twodollarstowin   3. Akeela

Race 3

Mazarron drops in class after sprinting and goes long today. One question is the surface turf or dirt. If dirt then I expect Dancing At Dark moves up to the top of the contender list. I have been disappointed with Minutesandtouches. He can step up and outrun his odds. American Wildcat beat $16K claimers up north at Golden Gate. A contender here after all the horses that bailed out of this race. I like Tiger Tyst who look good at Fairplex breaking his maiden. His races after that has been a major disappointment. One positive note is that he is firing fast worrkouts in the morning. He needs to repeat that performance in the afternoon. He should love the distance. Winning Desire should love the added distance from the rail. I expect a big performance for him today with this group.

       1.  Winning Desire
       2.  Tiger Tyst
       3.  Minutesandtouches

Race 4

A suspect field of maidens routing for a claiming price of $20K. The key might be that Balboa Bay takes off the blinkers for the first time with the highest Beyer Speed number in this field. He is trained by Scott Hansen with Martin Pedroza re-riding. It looks like on paper he is the horse to beat. Afleet Cowboy is stretching out to two turn and today he should show more speed. Preferred Behavior is the horse that should have the first run trying to reel in Balboa Bay. The live unknown horse that can improve a ton is Bay Rush. Beware David Flores re-rides this Paddy Gallagher colt which is seeking his spot for a dipolma. Color Me Cash adds blinkers for the first time. He has been out-run but out run facing much better then these.

        1 Balboa Bay

Race 5

Requisition loved the wet-track. He can press the pace or close down the lane. Speed is an asset and deadly on a wet-track. He is the morning line favorite and will be well-backed by the public after his last race. Dime was in the same race as Requisition. He got a weird race by Alonso tab the switch in jockeys to Martin Pedroza. This race he will be pressing the pace. The new kid in town trained by Jerry Hoffendorfer is Sahara Sky. A interesting horse!!!

 Race 6

A modest field of maidens for the claiming price of thirty grand. Warren's Peacock drops in class after a fourth place finish against much better. She most likely will be the betting favorite.  Toscanova pressed the pace and finished second at this very condition.
           1.Warren's Peacock

Late Pick Three

6th    1,2,6
7th        7
8th   2,3,4,7,11

Race 7

Lady Sweetness looked good when she beat maidens in her second career race. She did not beat much but this feature race has no monsters or world beatters in it. She is facing winners for the first time but she looms large and is spotted for action. Trained by the red hot Mitchell stable she should move thru this condition today. But not so fast!! Dani Reese has won at this condition before. She is a major player. River Glow looked good beatting up on $20K claimers. She steps up in class but the positive move is her speed and tactical position she can show in this race. Royal Tiger first race after a short lay-off was impressive. She shortens up in distance. She too has a long look for a win here. The mare owned by Harris Farms Initial Impression has alot of upside to her. She returns to the dirt for Sean McCarthy. She has strung together some good-looking morning work-outs for her first start in 2011. She looks spotted for action. Triple Cream has some deadly three old speed numbers on her plate. A daughter of Tapit is always a horse that you might want to look at during pre-race warm up. She is trained by a guy that can flat out get them to run fresh. David Hoffman and the rider is Sutherland who had two wins yesterday.

    1. Initial Impression  2. Lady Sweetness  3.Triple Cream

Race 8

Warren's Tiger exits a highly regarded race with Caffeine High. He looked game for the place spot his last race. He had a somewhat troubled trip pressing the pace then took up down the back-stretch. He is a player on the win end with a little racing luck it's diploma time for this Replicate colt. Jeff Bonde is awesome with sprinter returning after a lay-off. Check out his solid workouts! He looks fit and ready to rock and roll. The bettors hammered down the guy at Del Mar who had a troubled first trip in his first start. Liberal Arts might be the horse to beat. Beware!  Cold Bay has the pedigree to win after a respectable first race at Del Mar. This just might be the best race on todays card. As for first time starters Turn On The Pumps is a half brother to Cost Of Freedom so take note here! He has the blue-blood pedigree to fire first time out.

      1. Liberal Arts 2. Turn On The Pumps  3. Cold Bay
