BIG CAP DAY SANTA ANITA PARK

WELCOME TO BIG CAP DAY AT SANTA ANITA

TWIRLING CANDY BY DAVID M.
GLADDING
AGGIE ENGINEER BY DAVID MORANT

I would love to have some longshots and hate to be Calk Charlie but I like what I like!  Good Luck and have Fun!

In the Honey Fox Grade 3 for fillies and mares.....Race 10 at Gulfstream....... I like Never Retreat to close on the speed!

Race 1

Trumpet Player Jay has a red flag around his neck. He was claimed for 40K dollars on Jan. 23 in a turf sprint,in which he finish 4th. He added blinkers in his dirt race for $32K on Feb. 17th and ran a respectable second. Why the big drop in price seems to be a negative!  But we saw the dropper Gallent Gent win yesterday. Maybe the connections think that no one will claim the horse because of the drop in price. He will be the favorite. If sound and fit he is the horse to fear. Dave's Pacemaker ran a bad comeback race as the betting favorite. He might bounce back so do not take Pacemaker lightly. Seven Secrets shortens up from route to sprint. He has speed. High Standards was claimed and takes a slight hike up in class. I will pass on this race as I do not like anyone.... way too many unknowns........about these class droppers!

   1. Trumpet Player Jay 2. Dave's Pacemaker  3.High Standards

Speed horse route to sprint  Seven Secrets

Race 2

The John Sadler horse Chico D'oro ran into a buzz saw when Algergatti won. He has two solid workouts after his good looking debut. He is the horse to beat! He shortens up in distance and any thing like he ran in his debut will put him in the winner's circle! Rock So Hard switches back to the dirt after showing speed in his debut. He should improve. As for first time startes Wilburn by AP Indy looks live a runner. He is trained by Steve Asmussen and Mike Smith takes the call. I wonder why Gomez is not on this horse for Asmussen.

     1. Chico D'Oro   2. Rock So Hard  3. Wilburn

Race 3
Classy Lion is dropping after showing tactical speed in far better races then this race. He has the highest speed figure in the race. He must clear from the rail for Caeasar Dominguez who is having a cold winter meet. He is a excellent trainer with young horses! This looks like he might get his first win of this meet. He needs one!Ransom Demand drops after facing much better company. He is a major contender in a weak maiden race. No monsters in this race so check out the first time starter Full Deputy. He is trained by Powell and Smith takes the call looks live.

     1. Classy Lion   2. Remand Demand  3. Full Deputy

$20 to show on Full Deputy

Race 4

The pace has May Day Rose out on the early lead if AZ Warrior is taken off the pace. It's difficult to revision May Day Rose wiring this race gate to wire. But she can get scary if no one goes with her. Speed is deadly if left unchecked at this track. Zazu had the perfect trip in her last race in beating Turbulent Descent. Zazu looks like she is maturing and only getting better and better. I still think she is the filly to beat even with that perfect trip in her last race. I will take a stand against T. Descent . Kilogramea is stepping up in class and gets the acid test today with this field. AZ Warrior might need a race but she is a grade 1 winner. Fun Race to watch and of course bet! Good Luck............

    1.  Zazu  3. May Day Rose  3. Turbulent Descent

Race 5

The best filly in this field is Unzip Me who reeled off  5 straight victories. Then two thirds then three more wins. She is a true professional at this distance and this surface. The Jones and Bejarano duo is red hot! She has been freshen up for this and is making her first start in more then two months. Come get her! Ash Zee is a interesting shipper for Neil Drysdale. A Danzig filly should love the turf for her comeback. She has tactical speed to sit off Unzip Me. She has the look of a horse that will fire fresh off the bench. Reba Is Tops is another pure veterean that will try to reel in the two horses that I have mention above. She's Creeky has been off for 11 months but she will put together her kicker kill at the wire. Look who climbs aboard Joel Rosario.

    1. Unzip Me  2. Ash Zee  3. Reba Is Tops

    Longshot  She's Creeky

Cost -$20

Race 6

Mo Cheese will be out on the front end and as I have said "speed is deadly if left unchecked." Lutess exits a key maiden win and looks spotted for a smasher if she can get to Mo Cheese. I think Lutess is better then the Cheese. Morning Frost trained by Hess Junior does not trained them fast in the morning time. The Feb 28th five furlongs drill makes her ready to fire after two years off. She just might be the upsetter here! But the horse I like if she is fit is Imperatiz who has never been this low before. She can flat out close on this field.

    1.  Imperatiz  2.Lutess  3. Morning Frost /Chase The Fever

Race 7

Fandio is the speed of this race and tells the field Come Catch me! I like Mesa Heat who looks to run a smasher for Jack Carava. He exits a highly regarded dirt sprint last time out. If he can run a race like his last race on the turf going down the hill well......... double digits score with Mesa Heat! Great betting race.......

     1. Mesa Heat   2. Fandio  3. Pack Your Bags

$20 Place On Mensa Heat

Race 8

I picked Liberal Arts at Del Mar last summer! I'm picking him today. A interesting first time starter is a bomb in this race and might outrun his odds......Hagibis is trained by Mike Puype. Kingpin Ryno is the horse to beat!

     1. Liberal Arts   2. KingPin Ryno 3.Hagibis

Race 9

The pace looks hot and contested with Acclamation and Square Eddie hooking up on the front end. This distance of one mile can be wired but two horses dualing it out sets up for Caracortado to close. He shortens up to one mile. I see no problem with this distance for Caracortado. My picks are:

      1. Caracortado    2. Fluke  3. Jeramino/Sebastian Flyer

Late pick Three

9th        2,4,6,9
10th         5,1
11th       1,5,8

Cost Of ticket   $24.00

Race 10

The 100 Grander when Sea Biscuit won this race. The field for the Big Cap:

1. Soul Candy should relish the distance and  if and I say if the pace is fast and contested he has a big look!

2. Spurrier like Soul Candy he needs a fast pace to win. This grey has a big look in this field. He still needs to be beat Twirling Candy.

3. Gladding is making his second start for the John Sadler barn. He looked awesome winning his last race when Aggie Engineer could not get to him. He posted a huge speed number 111. He is bred to run long but still the distance will the other speed might be a problem. He looks great and is maturing. He needs his best race to date to beat these horses.

4. Pode Ir........... is the rabbit with First Dude

5. Twirling Candy in the Stub looked like a freak of nature! On opening day he won the Malibu against his own age group. He faces older horses in this race. After watching and re-watching the Stub the distance should be no problem with Twirling Candy. I think Twirling Candy is the best horse in this country. I expect he will win the 100 Grander Today. History is not on his side the great horse Citation was beaten in the Big Cap in 1950. A Triple Crown Winner in 1948. But having said this I think he is a horse that is special and like I have said  " A Freak!". A big strong legged colt that has matured.

6. Setsuko  minor award if any!

7. Quinci Man ........... He can hit the board at high odds..... not the win pool!

8. First Dude............ Has the pedigree and speed numbers for Baffert to make this guy scary............ because he has the same style of Twirling Candy........... He presses the pace. A major contender and by the way he is training in the morning time........ He loves the dirt track at Santa Anita.

9. Tweebster.............minor ward if any....

10. Aggie Engineer last race with Gladding looked to me that Joe Talmo fell asleep most of the race then ask Aggie Engineer to close down the stretch. He did but he had too much ground to overcome. He should be more into the bit in this race.

11. Game On Dude........... you better put your A Game On!

     1. Twirling Candy    2. Soul Candy   3. First Dude

Race 11

     1. Excelling   2.Roaring Times 3. He's A Dance Star
