| ALWAYS A PRINCESS BY D. MORANT |
A Good Value bet to start a early 50 cent Pick Four. I think this maiden route race is wide open! Period! This looks like a repeat of Patrick V gunning Captain Beau to the front-end telling this group of plodders " Come Catch Me". The only other speed type horse is Preferred Behavior. He moved up in class from claiming horses to maiden special weight on the turf. He is spotted for action switching back to the main track and gets a easier class level today which makes him a contender to win his maiden. I see both of these horses out on the front end. Warren's Magic Man by Mr. Greenly should relish the added distance for Jack Van Berg. He should be more into the bit and show more gas on the front end. This makes him a player as well. Beware because he did finish full of run! This son of Doc Gus has a nice workout for this race. Metamor was claimed out of his last race by Doug O'Neil. I expect he knows more then I do about the quality of this horse. Look who shows up to ride Metamor..... Bejarano rides! The classic dropper is a maiden special weight plodder who finally gets a switch in class and surfaces. Cantona has a bad outside draw for this distance because of his lack of speed. Martin Garcia I expect will have Cantona more up on the pace. He can change a horses running style. All this depends on the rain and if it is a wet track.......... Speed is deadly at Santa Anita and take the speed horses to win and not the closers. Hopefully Cantona will be up front sitting right off the lead at the top of the stretch in this race... if not then take P-Val to wire this race.
1 Cantona 2. Captain Beau 3. Preferred B
Race 2
After Bulldogger's wheels came off his last two races shipping back East...... Bob Baffert takes the blinkers off. He will be the favorite at post time. He gets the outside post and will probadly be the first one to reel in the speed of the speed Streakin Mohican who I have be impressed with. He might not give it up down the lane. I think he is the horse to beat..... Uh Oh Bango was on the derby hunt coupled with the fact that he has faced Lookin At Lucky Super Saver and Rule and did not give it up. He can sprint and if he does not need a race then he can win this race.
1. Un On Bango 2 Streakin M 3. Bulldogger
Race 3
As you might already know I like Candy Ride offsprings... therefore Reality Ride who was claimed by O'Neil from Bob Baffert for 50K...... shortens up Today and switches surfaces running down the hill. A Major contender and do not take this one lightly because he almost beat the blue-blood Temp his last race. He was 4 clear of the third place horse who came back and almost won his maiden race. Brutally Handsome has tactical speed to sit right off the speed who I think is Reality Ride or the first time starter Ghost Ride. Brutally Handsome has the pedigree and speed figures to make him a major player running down the hill. Ghost Ride by Ghost Zapper has fast works and a win early pedigree! Looks out for this high price colt..... He looks live first time out. A interesting upsetter is the Glen Hill Farm's colt Squad........ who is coming back off a short lay-off. Check out the Jan. 28th five furlong bullet.... Interesting race with many unknowns......! Preamble might be the horse to fear coming back after the lay off for Richard M and Victor takes the call.... a major player ... I will use all the horse I have mentioned above in the Pick Three and Pick Four
1. Reality Ride 2. Brutally Handsome Squad/Preamble
Race 4
A lack of speed in this race makes this race a difficult $32K sprint. It looks to me that Cape Truth with Cajun Gent will be on the front end and turning for home. I expect Cape Truth to be on the lead. If it is wet he might be hard to reel in at the wire. Trumphet Player Jay is the one to fear down at the top of the lane. He can flat out close. Bestdressed is the classic hanger getting seconds too many times for my taste but he has a shot here! Maui Mark gets off the turf and it is about time for him to run on the main track. He made a move down the hill and flatted out. He drops in class. He should show more zip because two races back he was pulling hard on the bit. He is player! Brenthurst will be over-looked because he is stepping up in class from $25 to $32K........ but he has faced some quality horses and almost beat Spirit Of Concise. He beat Sea Rascal who won last week.......... I expect this gelding to run a big race off the pace sitting right behind Cape Truth and Trumphet Player Jay........ Beware! These are the three horses I like in this race. A slight nod to Brenthurst if the track is dry.
1. Brenthurst 2. Trumphet Player Jay 3. Cape Truth
Race 5
Member Of The Tribe looks like the favorite breaking his maiden today if he runs back to his last race with Wild Hombre. He posted a good speed figure. Enduring Promise ships in from Golden Gate after a strong race with Russell Baze taking the mount. He is a player and contender. Quitely Waiting is a head case but if he can string two races back to back he will be closing down the stretch. He has the numbers to win. I like the first time starter if the track is wet. R.E. King out of Desert Wine who loved the sloppy surfaces........ He might shock the tote board if Member Of the Tribe falters down the lane.
1. Members Of The Tribe 2. Clocker Moment
3. Q Waiting
Pick Four 1,2,4,5 with 3,4 with 2,4,7 with 2 and 11
Race 6
On paper this race looks like the field lacks any speed therefore a charge to the wire........plodder's on a wet surface is a wide open affair. The blinkers go off Boulder Creek who never has run at this level. He looks spotted for action with David Flores riding red hot lately............lot's to like. The speed might be the longest shot of this field John Eli who is stretching out to two turns.... Tropical Heat and Tiz True will take most of the bettor's money...... a hard race to figure out. I like Boulder Creek...........
1. Boulder Creek 2. The Hunt Is On 3. Fog Alert
1,3,4 with 2,4,7 with 2,11
Race 7
If the track is wet look at In The Paint who loves the muddy surface. Coo Cachoo claimed by Canani wired a easier group and takes a hike up NIX....... looks to me that this race is light on speed except Coo Cachoo who is the controlling speed. He might be overbet and might do the classic bounce. I like Tamborin coming back off a year long lay-off...... He fires fresh for David Hoffmans....
1. Tamborin 2. Ain 3. Coo Cachoo
Wet Track look at In The Paint
Race 8
1. Concerto's Thunder 2. Streets Of Heaven 3. Nitro A.
Egypt's loves a muddy track..... a classic fit from off the pace. A sharp Feb 6th workout........ if he runs back to his Dec. 26th race with Skellytown he might shock this suspect field......... But I like the dropper Concerto's Thunder here!
