Mulhall’s Roll Continues In Thursday Feature; Pick Six Carryover Of $53,434 Friday Night

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 28, 2010)—Trainer Kristin Mulhall continued her hot streak when Square Deal scored a mild upset in the $47,440 feature Thursday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.
Only one favorite was able to win in the final half dozen races Thursday, so there is a Pick Six carryover of $53,434 for Friday.
Post time for the final Friday night card of the inaugural Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet is 7:05 p.m. The Pick Six begins in the third race.
Square Deal’s win was the sixth of the meet for Mulhall from only nine starters. She was second in two of her three losses.
Owned by Rustin and Juliana Kretz, Robert Wiles and Twilight Racing LLC, Square Deal, who was 9-2, won his second in a row, having scored over the Hollywood Park turf Oct. 2.
Making his first start over Cushion Track, the 5-year-old Sky Mesa gelding out of the Gone West mare Jaded sat off a quick pace (21.37 and 43.88 for the half-mile) set by El Scorpio and Truest Legend, got the lead with about an eighth of a mile to go and won by a half-length over 11-1 shot Earnednevergiven.
In winning for the fifth time in 19 starts, Square Deal, who was ridden by Victor Espinoza, increased his earnings to $119,620. He ran the six furlongs in 1:08.63, the fastest clocking of the meet for the distance.
Bred in Kentucky by HIO Stables, Square Deal has won twice in five starts since arriving in California.
His first six 2010 outings had come in Florida for trainer Joseph Catanese III. The chestnut earned a pair of wins at Calder in June and July and was disqualified out of another in February at Gulfstream Park.
Successful for the first time over a synthetic surface, Square Deal returned $11.20, $6.80 and $4.20. Earnednevergiven, who finished a half-length in front of 9-10 favorite Spaniard, paid $9.40 and $4.80. Spaniard’s show price was $2.40.
Following the Friday races – approximately 10:30 p.m. – a concert starring Jace Everett will begin at the North Park Lawn.
There is also a Hollyween costume contest with prizes totaling $900. Those interested can sign up at the grandstand customer service booth prior to the third race Friday.
