SATURDAY AT LA COUNTY FAIR FAIRPLEX

TELL A KELLY BY DAVID MORANT

Bank update and notes.  David Morant a racing fan from L.A. shot the above photo at Del Mar this season. He is a talented photographer........ and a much needed young racing fan...... I place $20 on Luv Dragon to place ........I put $20 to win on JP Dream and hit for a win..... and hit 2 pick three's three....... first pick three lost money and the second returned a small profit.... I miss on my other 3 $20 bets............ but the Bank is still in the black. It Looks like a full day of racing at the fair today so let the games begin............

Race 1             Four Furlong Maiden 32K
Leslie Rules is even money on the morning line...... she should be.........she has faced better has speed and a edge in experience over the first time starters. She shortens up to four furlongs and with a clean break she should be long gone.........The King is up!

        1. Leslie Rules  2. Our Little Kitty 3. Mysterious Cargo

Race 2             Six Furlongs Maiden 20K

Olympic Magic goes for 11 starts today.... Maybe this time the maiden professional  can win. He has ran against tougher.....He is trained by Ron Ellis and  Martin Pedroza takes the call in this puzzler. Lending Freeze with a race under his belt at Ferndale after a short vacation might show improvement.  Party At My Place was claimed first time out for 25K......he has been a major disappointment.  Night Justice trained by Peter Miller. Beware! He is hitting with maidens at Fairplex and looms large as the horse to beat..... He needs to break cleanly out of the gate. Check out his last breezing work outs at Del Mar. He is a head case at the gate but if he gets away cleanly is just might be a runner........As for first time starter Southofthequator trained by Jorge can get them fit and ready to fire first time out....... do not take this horse lightly ...... Check out the August 3rd works at Hollywood....

  $20 Win On Night Justice

Race 3             Six Furlongs Optional Claimer
I like the rail horse Somethinabouterri with Joy Scott in the irons.....She broke her maiden at Fairplex and this trainer does well with limited runners at Fairplex........ We should get good odds in this short field with most of the money on Our Road Scholar! Tuscan Chianti adds blinkers and gets the leading rider and a hall of fame trainer...... a major contender...... but still like the rail horse .....she has run with some quality fillies and mares.... and 8 to 1 morning line just sweetens the pot.

   $20 -   Place on 1

Race 4             Four Furlongs Maiden 32K
A wide open baby race for fillies sprinting four furlongs. I like Scatwomandu by the sire Storm Cat by the mare Smoke Glacken........ bred for speed and sends a high percentage of first time starters out to win!

           1. Scatwomandu   2. Love To Shop

Pick Three   $6-

Race 5             Six Furlongs Claimer 5K
Not much  in this bottom feeder level sprint for five thousand.  Self Defense and he is no mortal lock in this sprint race for 5K. Bernie's Baby if he can break cleanly fits at this level. A stone cold closer and you can see by his record that he is no win machine. The pace scenario is void of any rabbits except maybe Bugsy and Laser Jackson.......They both have a shot to win this!

Pick three  $18-

Race 6             Four Furlongs Maiden 25K
Absolute Magnitude if he can get a clean break out of the gate has the edge in experience coupled with speed. I just hope he is not a morning glory because he has been firing bullets in the AM and he needs to transfer this to the afternoon time .........Mister Deez get a hot trainer and the King...... modest works....I would like to see longer drills in the morning.  Razzo a head case at the gate needs to break quickly and cleanly. He has shown speed his 2 race at Del Mar....... under-rated trainer and a professional jockey in the irons ... so beware! El Navigante at two years old would have crushed this field. He is now 4 and his wheels look like they have come off........ but this trainer is a cagey trainer that lights up the tote board with bombs....... Theo Jules by Benchmark looks like a runner with modest works...... I never discard a Benchmark first timer!  Like I said this race is wide open!

Race 7             Six Furlongs Claimer 5K

         1. Suances  De Espana 2. Quick Miss  3. Squeeze Me Tight

   $20 Win  6

Race 8             Six Furlongs Maiden 20K
If the excuse was the surface for Sea Viper at Del Mar in which he did not like poly then Sea Viper looms large in this weak maiden sprint race. He did have speed at Hollywood and fits but no mortal lock.......On paper Decarchy Fever gets Alonzo has tactical speed which is a great asset to have at the bullring track. He just might be the rabbit stealing this race. Beau Cheval gets the King and is trained by Neil French who sends out first time starters with a good chance to win...... in other words he usually has them fit and ready.... not a stand out and not a throw out. Living Brave is a interesting horse by Brave Call and looks like a runner!

       $20 Place Sea Viper

Race 9             One Mile Sixteenth  Claimer 6K
Twice around the bullring track with the pace scenario lacking any speed except Saint's Crown....... she looks like she will tell the others Come Catch Me If You Can........... and I think Recess might just do that today........ I like Recess coming back from a lay off for Caesar Dominguez........gets the new bug boy with weight off..... Pokomoke will be closing with First Queen from off the pace....

  1. Recess  2. Saint Crown 3. First Queen

Pick 4..... 50 cent ......... 1,3,7,8 with 1,2,6 with 3,6 with 3,7

         Cost of Ticket  $24

Race 10           Six Furlongs Maiden Special Weight
Warren's Flyer owned by Warren Benjamin posts a big speed number.  I expect the speed monkeys to hammer this horse down to the ground. She ran against tougher and finished a respectable third with the addition of blinkers on her. Jenny Jenny Emily has speed and this just might be a step down in class for her today. She ran in open company for 40K....... a Major Player! Ez Rachel with a race under her belt and a blow out in the morning should show major improvement at this level. As for first timer starters the rail horse with Flores riding and trained by Hoffendorfer looks like a runner to me........ Her name is Wild And Gotaway owned by Tommy Town.

   1. Warren's Flyer  2. Jenny Jenny Emily 3. Wild And Gotaway

Race 11           One Mile Sixteenth E.P. Johnston S.

 1. Initial Impression a 4 year old filly gets back to dirt after a respectable turf race at a optional allowance claiming race for 40K. She should get a good ground saving trip on the rail. A Player... but..

2.Celebration goes from turf to dirt and her last race was horrible!
She needs to get off the turf and get back to s surface she likes.. minor award if any!

3. U R All That I Am is the class of this race........ she looks scary to me with this field of runners...... sports big speed numbers over this small field...... the horse to beat with Martin Pedroza taking the horse for the first time!

4. U Drive Me Crazy is interesting .......... she gets off turf ....... a turf experiment that was wrong for her! She looks like she can get the distance coupled with the fact that she just might be overlooked today on the win end........ I like her!

5. Party With Brando looks like Runnin Abrams is looking for a feed and motel check......... minor award if any!

6. Silver Heat gets off turf......... which is a good thing........ has tactical speed in the line up void of any fast factions on the front end............ I expect maybe Alonzo might just say Hay........... catch me if you can!......

7. Patsy Lil Buddy .......... I have a girlfriend name Patsy ........ so I will say............ was not impressed with the company she ran against her last race........ I picked her to hit the board and she did get third at odds of 9 to 1......... a stone cold closer from the outside post is not ideal for her............ she needs a speed melt down to win!

Race 12           Six Furlongs Maiden 25K

A wide open puzzler in a sprint at the bullring ends Saturday's card!
David Flores gets off a rabbit on the rail Salah Salah....... weird maybe he does not think he can go the distance........ Pass too! Cookin Expresso I thought at this level would get it done way before his 10 start........ a veteran now with speed! Pedroza gets off!  Pass on this one......Brandonshighhonors......... drops from the sky after being taken out of his game by a hop and a dead slow start at the gate.... Remember....... One race does not make a career. Check out his works...... I will sided with the trainer and maybe Alonzo can get him to break cleanly from the gate....... A Major Player at this level! Dejeuner Excess let's see one first........but is a In Excess sire who hits at 18% with first time starters. Oly's Offspring I pick to hit the board his last race and was hammered at the gate. He had no chance and with a race under his belt and a clean break might just out run his odds. Kim's Leading Man will be overbet with Martin Pedroza taking the call!  Single Shot looms large as he had trouble his last start and flew at the wire to get second... the horse to fear at this added distance. Truco gets Flores and has speed........... not sold on him for a win.........  Hi Card Gambler first race at 40k was solid! Maybe he did not like the poly track....... so I respect this one to show what he has today...... a Player!  At last .... Warren's Juan yes another Warren horse but if you look at his first race he ran a big speed number........ and he is coming off a lay off....... do not dismiss this horse ........ shortens up and has been working in the morning to fire quick and fast from the outside....... with little speed in this wide open race.............. a contender and a live long shot at double digit odds!
