Bank $4965.15
Race 3 Four Furlong Maiden 20K
You have to respect the son's of Rockport Harbor. Walter Solis trains and the barn is excellent with two year old colts. Hurricane Harbor fired a 1:00.4 from the gate followed by a blowout over this track..........Beware! He looks like a runner at 12 to 1 morning line! Airwar trained by Eric Kruljac is hitting at 20% win clip at Fairplex. Airwar with a troubled trip in his debut gets the services of Martin Pedroza. Wildest Passion a quick shipper from Arizona is trained by Michael Pierce who has won 2 times this meet. He gets 5 pounds off with Tyler Kaplan taking the mount. Goalie a first time starter by Larry The Legend some times throws in a live runner......... hard to judge but has a excellent trainer and a live jockey on him as Valdez takes the call. Thunder Of Zion drops from maiden special weight races gets the rail and has shown speed in his last two races. The son of Carson City looks to have a edge over the runners who have already ran a race....... the horse Thunder Of Zion might have to fear is the son of Rockport Harbour. Foot note Freedom General takes the nose dive from open maiden special weight and the bottom.... works are modest with low profile trainer and jockey. A wide open maiden....... with many angles to look at!
Race 4 Seven Furlongs Claimer 5K
This prolonged sprint is non winners of two for a claiming price of five thousand dollars. The pace scenario looks void of any fast pace on the front end. Sovereign Lord takes blinkers off looks to have a for sale sign around his neck. He drops to his lowest level gets weight off and looks like a plodder...... Self Defense beaten by a neck at this condition his last race is wheeled back for Craig Lewis and Martin Pedroza. Quite frankly the whole field looks suspect to me..... White Mark the California traveler ....... has a chance with this group to hit the board....... Halo's Limit might be the horse that finds himself on the lead turning for home.
1. Self Defense 2. Halo's Limit 3. White Mark
Pick Three $8-
White Mark in Pick Three
Race 5 Four Furlongs Maiden 32K
What's not to like about Warren's Idol except the short price at the winners circle....... looks gone! If Twisp draws in he must be considered for a win....... As for the first time staters Benedicta The Free trained by a under rated trainer Jorbe Periban has a great blow out from the gate and will get Valdez in the irons. Stepalize hails from the hot team of AC and Berrio who were red hot at Hollywood this year. They cooled down at the beach at Del Mar but this filly must be respected. Hey Sugar Sugar is well bred and the sire hits at 16% with first time starters.......Pas Del Calais a first time starter by a trainer David Bernstein who gets them fit and ready to rock and roll by the sire of Benchmark. Let's see how this filly looks on the track.
1. Warren's Idol
Race 6 Six Furlongs Claimer 20K 3 yr old
A wide open contentious affair! Really Uptown was my pick at Del Mar when he got beat at the wire at 10 to 1...... Jennie Green trains this son of Swiss Yodeler but my concern is can he improve over that race or will he regress! The rabbit might be the horse Martin Pedroza is on Southern Victory trained by Doug O'Neil. Bertran Hill has tactical speed to sit off the pace and close at the top of the stretch. The class of the race is Farmer Gil who has been somewhat of a disappointment gets back to a surface that he might enjoy. He will at this level be flying home late! This three year old has ran with some quality horses...... and I like him in this spot and I have a hunch that he might just show up today. No Marcias or Face And a Ace or Daylight Storm or Grace Upon Grace in this race.
1. Farmer Gil 2. Southern Victory 3.Really Uptown
Race 7 Six Furlongs Maiden 25K
Happy Hedger had to need his last race coming off a long lay off. He ran a respectable race considering the question of fitness. Crafty trainer Carl O' Callaghan will have him fit and ready today I expect...... looms large as on of the ones in this wide open affair! Warren's Dove making his fourth start has speed and gets the ground saving rail. He shortens up in distance and is a major contender for the win. Harlan's Tune has been on the bench since spring when he finished a 4th at this level. Martin Pedroza gets the call. As for a trainer who is hitting at 100%.......winners is Dennis Ekins who is sending out Own It with good pedigree in the genes..... might just be a runner!
1. Happy Hedger 2. Warren's Dove 3.Harlan's Tune
Long look at Own It
Race 8 One Mile Sixteenth Claimer 12K
The race condition is non winners of two! The pace scenario lacks any pure speed or fast factions on the front end. Sticky Candy drops like a brick when he broke slowly his last race facing 45K claimers at Del Mar. Doug O'Neil trains and the leading rider of Fairplex takes the call. Bustanai trained by Mike Mitchell will have John Kewin in the irons.....A stone cold closer who has gone the distance!
I like the Fanning horse coming back from a lay off. Cookie Rules drops from much tougher races and lands a soft spot to run a smasher for David Flores........... much to like if Fanning has him fit and ready! That's the real question. Del Mar Danger is trying two turns today and looks to me fit and ready........ Del Mar Danger did not beat a fast field in his maiden race.
1. Cookie Rules 2. Del Mar Danger 3. Sticky Candy
Pick Four $18-
Race 9 One Mile Sixteenth Maiden Special
Bob Baffert looks to have a live horse in Grove Park. The Rock Hard Ten colt ran a respectable third behind Spring Forth and Tweebster. Making his fifth start with Martin Pedroza in the irons has a great stalking trip. Fast Track looked like Silky Sullivan when he made up 10 lengths......... He is stepping up today to face the big league which came up short on quality runners! Emerald Asset should love the added distance and has a bullet in the morning preparing for this race. Stella Del Teatro was hung out to dry going two turns on the Del Mar turf. Robert Trpeger trains and Flores takes the irons. Check out his excellent work out in the morning. If he can transfer these workouts to the afternoon he might spring a upset over the Baffert colt. Oillisblackgold posted a good speed number in his first career start. He should relish the added distance. One race does not make a career....... so he should step up and improve today!
1. Grove Park 2. Fast Track 2.Stella Del Teatro
Pick Three 2,3,4,6 with 1,3,5,6 with 8 cost of ticket $16
Race 10 Seven Furlongs Stakes 2 yr. old Fillies
1. Hi Ho Yodeler won the restricted stakes race at Del Mar. She has speed and gets the garden seat on the rail with "Red Hot" Pedroza in the irons..... a major player might be the favorite! One of 2 entries by Harrington.
2. Table For One....... needs to hustle in this race.......good trainer jockey combo.
3.Belleofthebridle looks awesome winning first time out getting a huge Beyer number. She then got smoked by JP Gusto! Beware she adds blinkers today and the distance is perfect for her! I expect she will give Hi Ho all the trouble at the end of the race.
4. Swiss Wild Cat the other Harrington filly....... she learning how to run......and she needs more then six furlongs to show her best..... a live horse on the win end.
5. Faisca exits that key maiden race in which 3 horses she beat came back and won....... do not take her lightly! check out her works!
6. Lucky Sis ran a hell of a race almost beating Hi Ho at Del Mar. She was flying late and just had a unlucky lost because she needed more distance. Today she just gets the extra furlong to show her stuff.
7. Vonn Nez ..... was the hot long shot with the handicapper's at Del Mar. She is a head case at the gate and just walked out taking her out of the race......... I expect we might see the real filly if she breaks cleanly........ a player! but she needs a perfect trip to win with her outside post position.
Race 11 Six Half Furlong Maiden 20K
This race is void of any front running rabbits with fast factions on the front end. I like Warren's Payday but I fear Big Wags at the wire!
1. Warren's Payday 2. Big Wags
