Last Friday Night At Hollywood for This Summer

 Friday Night At Hollywood

Yesterday I might give myself a C- and that might be seeing the glass half full. Thursday's Bank started at $5935. I played 2 Poor Man's Pick Six tickets aka Pick Threes. Both tickets combined were $39. I hit a $20 Place tickets in the 3rd on Never which returned $22 and then in the 4th $20 place ticket on Lyons Barton which returned $50 with a total of ROI of $72 minus the pick threes tickets. The Bank for Friday is $5968.

Great Race to Watch is yesterday's 8th race a 3 year old filly race in which Malibu Pier won. She looks like she might be a rising star on turf and she looks like she can handle any distance and any surface. She's on my horses to watch list!

Race 1         Five Half Furlong Claimer (8K)
Two years and change was the last time Seven Point One ran and now he returns to the bottom feeders from a top rated stable and the leading rider takes the call. A short priced no value bet in my opinion but he has fired fresh before and his workouts suggest he will run his best race if he is sound and fit. He might be staggering for home the last final furlong grasping for air! When I was the manager at a OTB a old curmudgeon chomping on a cigar would say to me when he handicap Grants Pass Downs and Portland Meadows and hundreds of small tracks around the county, "Boy a lot of cheap speed in this race. " That statement rings true in this bottom dweller.
Within Reason looks like a stand out and gets Tyler "I'm Hot Friday Night" Baze. The two horses I like is Towser with blinkers on a 3 year old and he might be able to sit off the pace and have a big say in the final half furlong.  Satellite gets the new bug boy and weight comes off and this seven year old has tactical speed. He was claimed for 16k and yesterday we saw the same move by Sassy in which she was claimed at a higher price and dropped in to win the seventh race. The bomb might just be Two Violins which appears on paper one of the rabbits with a hungry ride up and as the saying goes "speed at five and half is always dangerous." He has a respectable five furlong drill at Hollywood.

Race 2         One Mile Sixteenth Maiden (25K)
This looks like another race you might want to leave your hands in your pockets.

Bottom Dweller of maidens which is void of any true speed! It's difficult to understand or see who and how the pace might unfold in this race.
The two horse I like is Branville a plodder down the lane. Manofgold another plodder which I rarely bet. Will the real speed rabbit please stand up so I might bet you! That might be Dazzling Razz with Tyler Baze. Using the Jay Totter method of picking winners you might want take the rail horse Gary Mandella's  Sir Bolly which has run with better and after a respectable 3rd in his first race at Golden Gate they thought more highly of him and entered him in MSW and 40k races. I believe now they know what they have and he is placed at the bottom.

                     1. Dazzling Razz  2.Manogold  3.Branville

Race 3         Seven Half Furlong Claimer (12K)
A side bar with Swift Demand in this race is the question of the distance. Ron Ellis trains and Martin jumps on but the distance seems to be a somewhat a concern with me. But having said this He is a contender in a field with few contenders and more pretenders.  Another race void of speed so take note in who might be the rabbits and turtles. Brinson runs his best races when he is sent to the lead and if the trainer and jockey talk this over before hand I expect Brinson might be put on the lead. Skippy Due along with Mind the Minister are the likely favorites. The seven year old Gold Trim has a for sale sign around his neck and is dropping from the moon but is a contender so do not take him lightly.

                    1. Mind the Minister 2. Swift Demand  3Skippy Due
                    Long shot  Brinson

Race 4         One Mile Sixteenth Turf Claimer (25K)

I pick Miguel's Mascot to hit the board last race  going off at 13 to one. He needed that race after nearly a year off. The only speed horses in this race is Miguel's Mascot and Teafatiller. With a race under his belt coming back from May 09, Miguel's Mascot looks to me like he might just go gate to wire. My concern is the last half furlongs going and mile and a sixteenth. If he relaxes on the lead and get a easy lead up front, all systems indicate "Go". Jack's Wild has back class and is the horse to beat. His last race  he waited going 5 wide then closed to win by a half-length at the same class level he is running tonight. There is still a horse that is a major contender. Corey N.  is up on a horse that in his last race ran into some tough customers. His race was a key race and a difficult sprint for 25k. The horses that ran with Pop's include Pack your Bag, Danzig Tribal and Detroit Danny, not a easy bunch to tackle. Moreover, Pop's had a troubled trip and this distance tonight is right up his alley! Please do take this horse lightly. This might be Corey's first win back!

                            1. Pop'shand Are Hot  2. Jack's Wild  3.Mascot

                             $20 Place on Pop's

Race 5          Six Furlong Maiden (25K)
Michael Mollica is a trainer I watch out for because he has a small stable but he can send some live ones out. I'm not saying this is my pick but in the back of your mind please take note of his methods. Truco takes off the blinkers and is coming back off a nine month lay off. The morning line on this bomb is 30 to 1. Look at his last work out. This might just be the best betting race of the night! Are we having fun tonight so let's do the Jay Totter method of picking winners. I love Joy Scott a true professional but I will pass on Paseo De Ramon. Souvenir Summer one of these days but today is nighttime. Pass! The number nine might be the lucky number for Ellis's horse  Olympic Magic. He is a contender  that has tactical speed. Mikethedealer show me a race first. I think I will Pass! Cookin Expresso I thought would have won before this. Why no more posted workouts for June and July. He tired! Pass! Aeromon a Major Player and likely the favorite in this field. Aeromon finished five clear of 3rd place and sports a Beyer number of 75. A number to win at this level. Gold Schleiger who is a major contender running with maiden special weights a complete different brand of runners. Tunasity with one of my favorite jockey Atkinson taking the call and rode a long shot on Saturday in the 5th race to victory. Justice Reins looks live and a must pick in the pick four.

You might want to look at the first time starters tonight before placing your bet. Look at Truco the one horse and see how he warms up on the track tonight.

                      Pick 4
                      5th  9,11
                      6th  2,5,6
                      7th  5
                      8th  2,7,8
                                 Late Pick three
                                 6th 2,5,6
                      7th 2,3,4,5
                      8th  2,8

Race 6          One Mile Turf Starter Allowance

Sheeza Beast almost beat Sky Chant trying the turf for the first time.  She is a improving Marquetry filly trained by the red hot Mike Mitchell. She has a closing kick that fits ideally for a mile on the turf. But in order to close you need rabbits in the race. Westwood Pride with Back Nine Doc look like they will set the pace. Westwood Pride pulled hard and never looked relaxed in her first start in California. She looks like the horse to beat in this starter allowance on turf tonight. Mystery Bird won first time out. She tries a new surface and a new distance tonight.  But if she settles in she can win from off the pace. My concern is her low speed numbers but as you know that turf speed numbers change. This leads me to one tough filly who rarely runs a dull race. She has heart! She has never run on the turf but her pedigree suggest all systems go. If my two top pick regress tonight Melbisha with JR will close down the stretch.

                     1. Melbisha  2. Westwood Pride 3. Sheeza Beast

Race  7          Six Half Furlong Allowance

Tenacious Tina the rabbit in a tough betting race filled with speed! She will set the pace and with JR who is on fire and the leading rider takes the call. Tina has been freshened up and sports excellent tab in her comeback. Can't Topper won her second straight facing winners for the first time. Her maiden race was very impressive. She draws the ideal post position and will be near  the pace and close down the stretch. Initial Impression won after she finished behind Missdealornodeal. So please do not take her lightly Missdealornodeal might just be the Real Deal. If the speed meltsdown I like the filly Warren's Got Game. I was impressed with her first race and her win surprise a number of bettors too. It looks like the barn did not bet her going off at 80 to 1. Assuming that Tina and Topper along with Missdealornodeal set a fast pace I like Warren's Got Game to close on the rabbits.

                        1. Warren's Got Game

Race 8           One Mile Sixteenth Turf MSW
A tough race to end Friday night is this somewhat contentious turf race. At first sight I had two top picks and after looking and study this race I feel there is a number of contenders. Starting with Lodi Red which is the speed of this race.
Lodi Red should love the lack of pace and moreover the added distance. He looms the one to have his picture taken at the winner's circle. Papa Lev by Unusual Heat makes his second start after finishing a half length behind the top pick. My long shot Is Tizzy's Desert Star tackling turf and two turns tonight. Thermal Wave has respectable speed figures and has been freshen up for 2 month. He is a player that will close down the lane. Dontmesroundwitjim puts on blinkers and had a semi difficult trip in traffic last race. If the speed and pace meltdown he might have more heart down the lane. Tribal Nation looks like he will love the turf and the added distance. My main concern is the outside post and losing too much ground on the first turn. But having said this Atkinson sticks around all night to race this live long shot in the closer. Do not just dismiss lightly Tribal Nation.

                                  1. In a Coin Flip   1. Lodi Red and Papa Lev
