Friday At the Del Mar Races

Where the Turf Meets the Surf Del Mar

Good Afternoon Del Mar's Card looks live. Bank yesterday was $613 minus Pick three's  and small pick six  $577. Giddy Up!

Pick Four  1,2and 3 with 1 with 2,8,9 with 1,3,7

Race 1         Mile Turf Claimer (25K)
Lullabytime is back with friends after facing Talktomuch and Rule the Storm. Trainer Aguirre claimed her two races back for 25K. A horror night mare of a trip when she was steadied and had a hard time getting through in traffic. Joel Rosario might have a ground saving trip on the rail and will close down the lane. Patsy's Lil Buddy is in top form coming from up North and is contender. She has excellent works at  Fallbrook which indicates that she is fit.  Hidden Romance is one tough customer hitting the board in 9 out of 11 races. She is trained by Jeff Blonde and Tyler Baze is his main man takes the mount. She is the horse to fear! Barry Abrams has two horses in this race. I like Powerofvoodo with Corey N who takes the mount here.  She has not race since April and looks like she needed a short freshening up. I  have a hunch that this horse just might be live!

      1. Hidden Romance  2. Lullabytime  3. Powerofvoodo

Race 2         Six Furlong Claimer (40K)

             1. Ivory Fudge  2.Daylight Storm 3. Grace Upon Grace

Race 3         One Mile Turf Claimer (50K)
A contentious wide open turf race! It looks to me like a great betting race. The pace scenario might be hard to visualize because the lack of a pure speed horse in the race. Seedless and L'Enchanteresse both stretching out might be sent to the lead. Magic Lantern a maiden trying winners for the first time seems to be in too deep with this field. If I knew Susie looked good winning her maiden by two lengths. She then ran into a buzz saw in a Starter Allowance. I posted on my blog that I liked her when she race for 32k and won. She jumps to 50k today and positive sign by the trainer. She is a contender after a slight vacation off the bench. Sky Chant is a horse I posted on top when she won her  allowance race and was very game down the stretch. Glendive ran with American Oaks winner Harmonious and looks like she has the right style for closing down the lane. Jaw's and Paws is stretching out after a strong sprint win and is in for a tag for the first time. A Major contender and she might just be the favorite. This just might be Corey's best chance for his first win at coming back to So. Ca. with Sandy Cheeks. She is trained by Barry Abrams who sends a live one in the third. She runs fresh and the distance is ideal for a horse coming off a lay off.... a mile on turf sets it up for her to close down the lane. Ninth Infantry has the highest speed number in her last race. She tries turf for the first time and one of the best turf riders B. Blanc takes the mount. She's bred to relish the turf and the distance seems to suit her pedigree with Lemon Drop Kid who could run long.

   1. Jaws and Paws  2. Ninth Infantry 3. Glendive

         $20 Place on Ninth Infantry

Race 4         Five Half Furlong Claimer (16K)
What's not to like about Joyful Success in this sprint for the wire. He has the highest speed numbers and might just be the speed of the speed.  Peter Miller trains and Joel Rosario takes the call. My concern is the negative drop in class "Why drop this horse?" But if he is fit and sound everyone else is running for second place.  If the favorite runs himself into the ground a closer Plansite is one of two horses tonight that I like.  Assuming Plansite can run like he did on May 19th he can win and is a major player. The horse that has back class as a two year old is Tribal Face. He was claimed for 40k then at 20K and was the betting favorite his last race at Hollywood. It looks like he needed that race. He has race with Alphie's Bet and Carcortdo. Tribal Face two year old numbers are the best of the field. this field. If he is semi sound and fit and that's the question here with this horse. He just might be a live long shot at 12 to 1.
I took another look at this race and  Mike Mitchell's horse with Martin Garcia is a major contender ............. Seeuat Sticknstein. If there is a complete speed melt down Good Brother has a closing kick. At second reading this race is wide open.!

                1. Joyful Success 2.Tribal Face 3.Seeuat Sticknstein

         $20 place on  Tribal Face

Race 5         Six Half Furlong Claimer (50K)

The pace scenario might be Best Mon on the lead with Position A right behind him. I would like both of these horses if the distance was six furlongs. Position A was claimed by Doug O'Neil for 50K. He sports strong speed numbers and has tactical speed to be near the lead or can give his jockey position to be right off the pace if need be. He is a major contender and will most likely be bet by the public. To me it looks like the winner will come from off the pace.  Bestdressed found the Grade 1 waters too deep for him and drops in class today. He is a major contender at the wire. Seven furlongs is ideal for him not Six and Half. But having said this he has beat most of these runners in this field today. He is 0 for 6 at Del Mar. Big Bad Leroybrown is a tough veteran and loves Del Mar. He has 2 wins and 2 seconds out of six races at the beach. He sports a bullet work out and has not run since January. He looks live to me! Please do not take Charm n' Chuck lightly because his last race he had a troubled trip and might have won that day beating Bestdressed. He might just need some racing luck. Today he might just turn the tables on Bestdressed. Beware! Mr. Monkey Jones just wins races and loves the poly track.......... a must use in the late Pick three. A salty race with many contenders.

              1. Mr Monkey Jones

Race 6         One Mile Sixteenth Turf Optional Claimer
A wide open contentious race  and a great betting race for Pick three's and Pick four's. Lunada Bay is going around two turns for Bob Baffert with his main man Garcia up. He wire maidens and is the speed of the race. "Come catch him if you Can."  Juniper Pass a stone cold closing and has run with the likes of Megastar, Hockley,Royal FJ and Face with and Ace which has turned into quality horses. He too is facing winners for the first time today. Kid Edward has not run in 6 months.  Kid is trained by Cassidy who usually has them fit and cranked up for a big dance in the afternoon. Welcome back Dave From Dixie who is the class of the race. He drops out of five graded stake races and tries the turf for the first time. Note his long excellent work out tab for June and July suggests that he will come out running. Camp Victory on the outside might be sent to the lead so he will not lose ground on the first turn. He has the highest speed numbers and has posted a bullet his last work out. The horse I like is the import from the Jerry Hoffendorfer barn called Velikiy Zevs........ try to say that fast Denman........ Check out his work outs for May June and July. He adds Lasix and gets Tyler Baze!

           1. Lunada Bay  2. Kid Edward 3.Juniper Pass

Late pick three 1,3,6,7 with 3 with 1,3

           $20 Place on Juniper Pass

Race 7          Five Half Furlong  2year old Stakes
Good Luck with the babies today in the feature race at Del Mar.  It looks to me that many of these runners look on paper similar. Let's do the Jay Totter method of selections for this 2 year old sprint. First out of the gate is Arta B Tapin: a blue plate special but has finished in the money four out of five times. He really does not get my heart jumping I might just Pass and roll the dice. Cayana looks like Tapin to me but posted a big speed number on the turf against yes open company! Today the speed number guys might hammer this one down. She is a contender in a long list of contenders and few pretenders. Miss Reditore I bet last time and she looked awesome. People will by pass her because she only won a maiden 40k plus the fact that Victor jumps off and rides Tapin.  Mike Smith is up and that's great news for me! You might want to go to CalRacing and check out her last race. She looked like she was hardly breathing and could go around again. Cookinthisorthat looks like the others to me so I will Pass!  Vonn Nes by the 2 year old stakes winner La Nez does get me excited. Her last race look like a race to get her more fit and ready. She comes out of the same race with Tappin and Cookin'. I expect we might see a runner going off in double digits and lighting up the tote board. SeethegirlGo looks like Tappin and the rest of the bunch. Pass! Deo's Secret trains near Fallbrook and has hit the board in all of her races. She is a contender!  She broke her Maiden with restricted open company and today faces Cal Bred! Beware........Hard to say what type Trick Skate is but her race in the Cinderella Stakes wants me to hit the pass button. Hey Rockin Heather  posted  big speed number in her first race. She then had a trouble trip in the Cinderella so I can give her a free pass. She will have speed today.....so..... a maybe .....  She adds blinker today because of the dull race she ran up north at the county fair.  Swiss Wild Cat,hey, I just saw you run 12 days ago. You better get some rest and eat your oaks. Pass! Hi Ho Yodeler might just be the favorite beating Swiss Wild Cat. Social Event looked awesome under the Friday Night lights. But look the lights might not be on just yet for her. She will close so she is a player in a wide open field.

                      1. Miss Reditore  2.Deo's Secret

      Value Play is  Vonn Nez

Race 8          Seven Furlong Maiden (32K
A number of pretenders in this semi weak 32K maidens. Let's keep it rolling with Jay Totter's insight ....... On the rail.....  We have.... Not in Sibera shortening up in distance shipping down from Golden Gate. A new face in a weak race and on speed numbers this horse fits with this group. A Contender no doubt!  Kim's Leading man maybe 13 is his lucky number with this old veteran at 3 years old. D'Oro Dancer drops from Maiden Special Weight to tackle this group. He is trains as you already know by a excellent trainer with maidens Kathy Walsh. He posted a bullet work out for this race and picks up Tyler Baze. Look out! My Last Tycoon Hot riding Victor re rides and he beat Kim's Leading Man his best race of his short career. I think other's look better on paper but if you like him.... hard to know what to expect.... will he improve or regress off his last race. On speed numbers he ran a somewhat slow race. Yvett's  Marr's must be name after his Girlfirend......... slow works but the dam has one winner from 2 starters. Look at his fast work out at Sunland Park would be a Pick Six carry over if he won......... but..... Big Wags has speed both pure and tactical and takes a needed drop in class. He has the highest speed numbers in this field. I thought that Big Wags would have won long before this........ and that worries me some! Titus Aurelius looks like on paper the real deal. He ran at this level and flew down the lane getting beat at the wire. He then enter a turf race over his head and showed speed most of the way down the backstretch.

          1. D'Or Dancer  2. Not In Sibera
