EDDIE D. 2015
JOCKEY QUOTES
GARY STEVENS, NO SILENT, WINNER: “He was a stallion before when I rode him. He was very aggressive and tough to deal with and I was lucky to win a race with him (July, 2013). They gelded him and Gary showed a lot of patience, much like Papa Mandella.
“Today, he broke clean, he got a perfect stalking trip and Gary has just done a good job with him, been very patient. He’s run three great races now off of a long layoff and this horse is just loving his job and he made my job easy.”
TYLER BAZE, MIDNIGHT STORM, SIXTH: “He ran good, we just got outrun.”
TRAINER QUOTES
GARY MANDELLA, NO SILENT, WINNER: “He was gelded right after we got him back from Keeneland (in April of 2014). It (the Shakertown, April 12, 2014) was a really roughly run race. He got bumped a million times and we knew he was going to need some time off to get over some injuries, but I think the time off did more for him mentally than physically.
“He’s really become a subtle, more relaxed horse, and more so than anything, it’s been why he’s been able to stay so happy and enabled us to build on that and have every race better than the last one.
“Gary (Stevens) and I both agreed that on paper the race would set up exactly the way his last races had been, that a couple of horses would send and he would comfortably follow in the second flight. It didn’t actually wok out exactly that way because they were a little bunched on the front end and he got forced wide, but he still won pretty handily. I thought it was really impressive. He ran the best race of his life, as a 6-year-old.”
EDDIE DELAHOUSSAYE: “It feels great (to be back in the Winner’s Circle). Not only that, old man Gary Stevens won the race and I’m going to present the trophy.”
Asked how far No Silent would have won had Delahoussaye ridden him: “A nose.”
