THURSDAY LOS ALAMITOS
The second fall Thoroughbred meet at Los Alamitos that begins Thursday, Sept. 10, will be highlighted by the $100,000 Barretts Debutante for 2-year-old fillies and the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile for 2-year-old colts and geldings.
The Debutante will be run Sept. 19 at the Southern California track, with the Juvenile the following day. Los Alamitos has scheduled five stakes worth $425,000 during the short meet, including the $75,000 Beverly J. Lewis Stakes on opening day.
After opening with a pair of four-day race weeks, on a Thursday-Sunday schedule, the meet will conclude with programs on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 24-25.
The meet also includes a new Starter Showdown Series, with purses totaling $175,000, on closing day. It is topped by the $45,000 Seal Beach Stakes for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs. There are four other races in the series, ranging in distance from 5 1/2 furlongs to a mile, for horses eligible for $8,000, $16,000, and $25,000 starter allowance contests.
Post time will be 2 p.m. (PT) daily.
Two of the five fillies entered in the Beverly J. Lewis are trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, including Iowa-bred stakes winner Colerful Bride. Owned by Edward D. Taylor, the Munnings filly out of the Unbridled's Song mare Appealing Bride has two wins in five starts and has banked $91,510.
Hollendorfer also will be represented by Dr. Fager's Gal, a daughter of Wild Desert who has won two of six and earned $105,380.
