CALIFORNIA CHROME HAS NEW SPECIAL VISITOR

California Chrome co-owner Steve Coburn invited some local guests to his box at the Del Mar Racetrack last Saturday — Ken and Dixie Unruh and their visiting daughter, Stephanie Unruh Brown.

Brown produces the racehorse’s favorite treat, Mrs. Pastures Cookies.

Coburn, who has spoken publicly about his horse’s love of the cookies, asked Brown to meet him at California Chrome’s stall the day before his race to give the winner of the 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness his pre-race treats.

When Chrome won Saturday’s $300,000 Hollywood Derby, the Del Mar crowd went wild and gave a standing ovation. Reports Dixie: “Steve and Carolyn Coburn cried.”
