SATURDAY AT OAK TREE HOLLYWOOD PARK
Friday's Bank $1,141.00............ The last race saved the day. I like the first time starter Mrs. Card owned by Hi Card Ranch and trained by a cagey good trainer Sam S. Victor E. took the mount. The morning line was 15 to 1 and floated up to 30 to 1. There was little action except the stable workers who put down small bets like me. All the losing bets Friday total $116.00....... I put $20 across the board on Mrs. Card and returned a profit of $360.00 minus $116.00 equals $244.00....... add the starting bank of $1,141.00 totals $1,385.00
SATURDAY'S BANK $1,385.00
Race 1 Six Half Furlong Maiden Special Weight
A coin flip with Shane Daniel and the Giant's play off hopes McCovey Cove. The fastest of the two looks like Shane Daniel but seems to be the best man and never the groom. It's now or never! As for first time starters Thirtyfirststreet looks live as Bejarano takes the mount. He had a blowout on Monday for trainer Doug O'Neil.
Race 2 One Mile Sixteenth Claimer 25K
The speed horse with no other horses at the quarter and half mile pole is Kanan Dume. Come and get him if you get.... might be gone at this distance. The horse that just might reel him in is North Fork who is fit and looks to me to be ready for a big performance. The horse that I like is No Dream who needs some racing luck and can spring at upset a good odds.
Pick Three 1,2,4,5,6 with 3,4,5 with 1 and 4
Cost of Ticket $30 Returned $163.20 with cost of bet
Race 3 One Mile Sixteenth Turf Allowance
The favorite is Late Cuddle who had a troubled trip and was well backed at Del Mar her last race. She looked great two races back winning from off the pace. There was not much in that race but having said that she is the scary mare from off the pace. Gripsolm Castle shortens up and she might try to steal this race on the front end. She faces a tougher field then her last race but she might just be tough to handle. Calle Vista is a speed horse but she can sit off the pace and try to reel in the speed down the lane.
Pick Three 3,4 with 1,2,4,5,7,10 with 6
Cost of bet -$12
Race 4 Six Furlongs Maiden 25K
This is a weak field therefore nothing would shock me in this race.
Stormy Linda drops and has the for sale sign which is a major concern with me. She won her first race which I had and she was DQ. She looks on paper the horse to beat. Warren's Rose turf experiment is over and she is back to the level where she was claimed. She looks spotted for action. Binky's Sister has been freshen up for this race preparing in the morning with good work outs. She can win this maiden race and get her diploma. My long shot pick is the horse coming off the long lay off which is Marquisite. She is 4 years old and trained by Mark Glatt. Her workout tab looks good as she shortens up for this sprint. A good route to sprint angle with this one. I like Kahlua Mist for Matt Chew and Blanc who have in the past sent out some bombs....... and this one might just be that! She made her comeback race on the cushion track and she did not get beat by that much...... it might be a stretch but with this field anything has a chance.! Misstrailcityzone will not find a easier field to beat...... A Major player on the outside! Bombs Away!
Race 5 One Mile Turf Claimer 50K
A good betting race with many pace scenario's that might unfold. Muny and Salah look to contest the lead from the start. Unbridled Story with P-Val might gun it to the quarter and half mile pole. if this is the pace scenario then Kris Silver who was claimed by Hollendorfer for 40k can reel in the rabbits and close to win this race. He has gas to make the lead but does not need it to win. El Merito is the horse that should love the distance. The question is one of fitness coming back from a long 15 month lay off. If fit and ready he is a scary horse that can win this. He has run with some scary dudes like Monterey Jazz and Mr. Gruff...... do not dismiss.. The horse that I like is Winsome Charm who was claimed for 50K dollars. As for the race at Fairplex he was steadied sharply the the quarter pole and therefore was taken out of his game. He has won at this level and his race two back was a highly regarded fast race in which he got second. He looks live and we might get a hint of a good value bet on him today!
Race 6 Five Half Maiden Special Weight
Switzers Da Man flew at the wire having been stopped by traffic and had nowhere to go. It will not take long for him to get his diploma. Basic Strategy has a edge in experience. He has gas and got beat by a good horse that day Dixie Cross. He can win with the addition of blinker go on today if the first time starters need a race. My concern is P-Val who rode Basic Strategy jumps on a first time starter Arousal trained by Eoin Harty. This Malibu Moon colt has excellent work outs that leads me to believe that this colt is live first time out. Air Union on the rail looks like a runner first time out for Bob Baffert!
1. Switzers Da Man 2. Arousal 3. Air Union
50 cent Pick Four 1,3,4,7,10 with 2,5,6 with 6,7 with 7
Minus $15.00
Dan Henricks gelding look good warming up....
Race 7 Six Furlongs Allowance
I like the outside horse Magicrooy who first time out beat some quality horses. There just might be some pace to run at. She looms large for a upset... My main concern is that she will not be close to the speed and therefore have slow factions to run at. She needs to be nearer to the pace today and not make a run like Silky Sullivan...... a great horse but Magicrooy is no Silky Sullivan ....... yet in her short career. Lot's to like but I fear the other maiden facing winners Stunning Ally today in this race. Check out the horses she faced as a maiden.......... wow ! Ready for a smasher if fit and ready to rock and roll.
1. Stunning Ally 2. Magicrooy
Pick Three 2,5,6 with 1,6,7 with 7 -$9.00
Race 8 Oak Tree Derby Turf
A field of eight three year olds over nine furlongs enters Saturday's $150,000 Oak Tree Derby......... Jay Totter will explain:
1. Haimish Hy by Ecton Park looked great winning with odds at 30 to 1 after a long lay off....... you can not ask a horse to do any better in the El Cajon at Del Mar on the poly track. He is a late running and needs a perfect speed melt down... I like this three year old forty Nine colt.
2. Sebastian Flyte .....a multiple group 3 runner made his debut winning a optional claimer allowance race. He is stepping up in class today. Ben Cecil can flat out get a horse to run his best........ the question is will he improve or regress off his first win in the states. He looked great beating Benchrock and Spring Forth that day! A Major contender.
3. Kid Edward has room to grow....... and fought the battle with Twirling Candy and Sidney's Candy....... James Cassidy trains and David Flores rides..... A Player!
4. Jairzihno by Royal Applause finished second in the De Mar Derby his last race. He has room to grow and if he does not regress or bounce he most likely will out run his odds.
5. Fantastic Pick would be a surprise!
6. Blue Panis a colt from France looks scary to me...... He finished second at the Grade 3 Prix Paul De Moussac then came back and won in the Prix De Tourgeville at Deauville. The horse to beat on back class.......
7. Royal F.J. looks like a rabbit with very little speed in this race. It took him 11 races to break his maiden but he has matured and looms the up setter in this race.
8. Make music For Me is his tune and did you see him in the Kentucky Derby flying late to get fourth from dead last. One for one on the turf makes this young dude scary from off the pace.
1. Royal F. J. 2. Blue Panis 3. H.H.
$20 w/p/s on Blue Panis
Race 9 Six Furlongs Claimer 12K
Three Pointer is spotted for action at this level today. Remember this is non winner of two sprinting for a claiming price of 12K dollars. A Pint For Mary might have put it all together...... a live long shot to win. Usually Lucky has back class running at the maiden special weight level and has run with some quality horses. Night Justice takes off blinkers drops to the claiming ranks and loses one jockey but gains a good one...... looks to like! He is a head case at the gate and is his own worst enemy. Kenter Canyon is a interesting gelding who won his first race out. He fits with these and had a trouble trip out his last race. He was claimed last race and I think he is a better and faster closer then what it looks like with his past performances.......... Beware!
1. Kenter Canyon 2. Three Pointer 3. Usually Lucky
- $60 Minus
