WEDNESDAY AT DEL MAR

Look Ahead to Week 7
Notes: Plenty of stakes races left, with seven scheduled between
today and Sunday. Topping the list are the final two Grade I races
of the meeting, the $250,000 Darley Debutante for 2-year-old
fillies on Saturday and the $250,000 Del Mar Debutante for
2-year-olds on closing day, Sept. 8. The Grade II, $300,000
Del Mar Derby for 3-year-olds is Sunday. The $100,000 Generous
Portion Stakes is today. The $100,000 El Cajon Stakes is
Friday. The $75,000 Windy Sands Handicap is Saturday, and on
Sunday’s undercard of the Del Mar Derby will be the $100,000
Torrey Pines Stakes and the $75,000 Adoration Stakes. On Monday
there’s the Grade II Palomar Handicap and the I’m Smokin
Stakes ... ZZ Top, those sharp-dressed men who like their fillies
with long legs, play their unique tunes Saturday after the races.

Race 1          Six Half Maiden 25K
At closer study coupled with the fact that this is the lowest level of maidens at Del Mar tells us that this race is competitive open affair.
Who U Foolin trained by a cagey trainer Paul Aquirre has had a off meet........ and I know exactly how that feels... A head case at the starting gate but if the short vacation and a clean break he has the Eddie D style to close from off the pace with Blanc taking the call. I expect he might just outrun his odds.  Magical Instinct was well bet at this level his last race. He showed speed having been steadied taking him out of the game. Look who shows up to ride P-Val going to Big Revolution and Joel R. climbs aboard this one...... Born To Waltz is owned by Hoffman and trained by Fanning which have in the past years sent out horses that have won. Fanning is ice cold! Born To Waltz does have a bullet work out since his last race and not a complete pass. Action In Motion switches to a new barn adds blinkers if he takes to the poly track should improve. A player in this scramble..... I  think this race is a wide open affair and not so easy to single and focus on just one mount. Tale Of The Bat has been off for five months and I like the angle of route to sprint. A player! Tuba Man if he improves and does not bounce......... finds a field which makes him one of the horses to beat. Big Revolution drops for 100K level and has been off for two years........... P-Val takes the ride and will get a shot at Tuba Man. Scorsese trained by Kathy Walsh posted a big speed number his last race coming from off the pace. If he improves he looms large from just right off the pace. P-Val BR will likely be the pace.

Pick Three  All with 1,4,6 with 4 cost of ticket $24

Race 2          Five Furlong Turf Optional
A wide open race with Quick Enough out ..... the speed is Winter Camp with Raetodandty as the rabbits.  Winter Camp looks like he will out dual Raetodandty.... and might just try to steal this race gate to wire.... A Major Contender.... remember he almost beat Quick Enough two races back and if he does not bounce off his last race..... looms like a smasher!

       1. Winter Camp  2. Afleet Ruler  3. Rob Bob And Dave

Race 3          Six Furlong Maiden Special Weight
Backstreet Dancer a first time starter by Street Cry has excellent works coupled with the fact that JR and Sadler hook up is my pick in a somewhat suspect field of maidens... Tiz O Gold fits and should improve with a race under the belt. Too Much Xcitement was steadied down the lane tab for improvement this race. Fifty Carates sounds like a filly to me............ is a interesting long shot and do not take this horse lightly. I like the jump up in class and this filly just might be a runner!

Race 4          Six Furlong Claimer 25K
My record at Del Mar with non winners of two has been somewhat lacking in the win column.  Silver Squall was a pick last month and quite frankly had to need a race with two years off. SS should improve and fits with back speed figures and a riders who gets them out of the gate fast and into the race..... P-Val!  Quoted is dropping like a freight train but JR stays put. Quoted switches to a new surface and just might be over bet. Look at the condition NON WINNERS OF TWO....... My pick is Cafe Con Leche ....... coffee with milk to upset the field......remember my batting average at the poly track....... I long for the days when this surface was dirt. Best Affair looms large and might be a good value bet with my pick.

Pick Three 2,3,6,7,8 with  2,3,5,9 with  1    $20

Race 5          Six Furlong Claimer 12K
Seeuat Sticknstein drops and will try to make amends ....... short price..... and the drop does not get me excited....... mixed signals with SS.... The overbet favorite Seeuat Sticknstein but maybe the trainer and jockey know more about this horse then I do.... I'm lookin' around for other contenders.  Caesar D. horse Purse Luva with a race under the belt get the Domanican Dandy and plenty of speed in this race to sit mid pack and close on the rabbits down the lane. Days Of Lightning ran a dull race at a higher level and might not take to the poly surface but at this level of company is a major contender and player!

      1. Purse Luva  2. Seeuat Sticknstein  3 Days Of Lightning

Pick Four    2,5,9  with 1 with 2,3 9 with 10

Race 6          One Mile Turf Optional Claimer 25K
Runaway Bandido ran up against Goggle McCoy and ran a respectable second. He has tactical speed and is set for a smasher today at great odds. Tab for action!

        1. Runaway Bandido

 All with 3,11 with 10

Race 7          Six Furlong 2 year old  Generous Portion Stakes

1. Lucky Sis got diploma in her 9th start ......would be a shocker!

2. Swiss Wild Cat won the 100 grander at Del Mar then bounce with no valid excuse.....trying to make amends today.

3. Mile Rules from the Clifford Sise barn with odds at 15 to 1 with low profile jock aboard but looked great wiring the field in a decent Cal-bred race........ a player! and major contender!

4. Desperate Measures has hit the board in all her races and is looking for the hat trick today. The test is the horses she has been beating might not stack up with this company of runners.

5. Yellow Slicker  great pedigree with speed influence the family produce Mr. Prospector and Forestry............ and yes the first race looked good too! She fits with speed numbers coupled with the fact that she won on this track and was claimed for 40K. Tab for improvement and a major player!

6. Rockin Heather is a rabbit with speed but the question is the added furlong today ........ can she stay the distance with other speed types in this race.

7. Faisca trained by Caesar Dominguez by the sire of A.P. Indy by the dam that produced Storm Bird which produced runners like Fall Aspen and Dixie Union.

8. Tiz Blushing light on speed number and just learning this game!

9. Vonn Nez bred strictly top to bottom for speed and a full sister to Cal Cup Juvenile winner La Nez. Her first race lacked run and coupled with the fact that she is a maiden with a plus and that is excellent pedigree........ a live long shot.

10. Clubhouse Rules sired is a son of Storm Cat. A maiden facing winners but fits if she steps up with a improve.... I like this one and she gets off the rail.

11. Perfect Curls the shipper from up north having won three straight and will be well bet in her debut on the poly track at Del Mar.

12.  Hi Ho Yodeler bombed after a great try in the 100 grander....

13. Trick Skate looked good at Hollywood and needs a do over at Del Mar..... others look better to me then she does.

          1. Miles Rules  2. Perfect Curls  3. Swiss Wildcat

Race 8          Six Half Maiden 25K
Bottom level of maidens ends today's card and quite frankly only one horse I like..... and that is Warren's Payday which I hope rings true......! I like the pedigree of Lake George and David Flores has been heating up in the final week of Del Mar...... might I have such a week....... Good luck today and thanks for reading my blog!

       1. Warren's Payday!
