She is trained by Bob Baffert and gets Martin Pedroza to take over the reins....... looks to be well backed today with those connections. Spumoni from Arizona fired a bullet over this track. She is bred to be quick and is a win early type. A interesting filly might just be Barbary Boast Girl would was well bet in her debut at Fairplex. She walked out of the gate her first race. I like the pedigree of Gone West out of the mare Lake George. She needs to hustle with a clean break might just outrun her odds.

Race 2          Four Furlongs Maiden 32K
 Two Back to back filly race at four furlongs ......... Hanakkuh is dropping in class showing speed her first race with Dearly Concerned who had stepped up and won her last race. She exits a key maiden race....... and with Janet Armstrong and the win early pedigree........... and yes Martin rerides this filly is the horse to beat at four furlongs....... she looks like on paper she will be long gone. There is a live long shot in this race coming back after a break to get her head straight........... her name is Secret Althea trained by Martinez. Her first two races she showed speed then they added blinkers on her and she had trouble........... today they take off her blinkers and I expect she will run her best race.......... It is good enough to win........ well at the morning line of 20 to 1....... not out of the realm of hitting the boards! As for first time starter.... Portland looks live.......

Race 3          One Mile Sixteenth 50K

Dance To My Tune has back class and has won over half a million dollars. She has speed coupled with the fact that is draws the rail looms the horse to fear! Jerry Hollendorfer trains and Martin Pedroza rides this classy six year old mare. Briecat takes off the blinkers today. She has speed and had to need her last race. She should have no problem with the distance. A major player. Madel is a tough cookie who just gives her all in each and every race she runs. The Filly who is facing older horses today and who never gets respect at the tote board is Calle Vista. She has the speed numbers to win this wide open affair!

Race 4          Six Furlongs Maiden 32K

Tiger Bay who exits the race with Trouble Rules who came back and won is a contender and looking for his diploma at this level. Yodelmeister who had a ton of trouble his last race needs to stay out of trouble and he finished full of run his last race. He can win this race. Warrens Heartthrob looks like double trouble ........ both are contenders....... The horse I pick to hit the board his last race is entered today...... Score For Fun the New Mexico bred takes off the hood........ I expect we just might see him run better with a race under his belt. A contentious race........ with many contenders and few pretenders.


Race 5          Seven Furlongs Claimer 12K

A red flag around Kanan Dume's neck who today is dropping out of the sky to face the bottom feeders.  I like Defying Logic at this distance and the equipment chance taking off the hood. A value bet with the morning line at 10 to 1.

Race 6          Six Furlongs Maiden 20K

Avani Force trained by Julio Canani was bet down her last race at Del Mar. It was not a fast race but she now drops to the lowest level with 2 Hollywood works will be the favorite with Martin Pedroza re-rides this filly. Victory Stand fired a bullet for her return today for Gary Mandella.  She looks fit and ready to run her race. Go Lourdes G has a race under her belt while she showed speed.........and should only improve..... I like the first time starter on the outside today O She So............ might want to look at her as a filly who might outrun her odds at triple digit....... maybe 30 to 1 or higher


Race 7          Seven Furlongs Claimer 5K
 Bandeira Union has speed in his last two races at Del Mar. Doug O'Neil drops for the money run with this one.......... Nima's Pad takes the drop from 20K dollar and tumbles for Brian Koriner.  Nima's Pad can steal this race from gate to wire if no one goes with him and he can get a easy relaxing lead slowing down the factions....

Race 8          Six Furlongs Maiden 25K

Bob Baffert  sends out Kela's Assault who has a race under his belt at this track. He was claimed at 25K then jumped to the 40K level and ran a respectable live race with Sidandfrank........ who came back and won last week. Do not take this horse lightly on the win end. Salah Salah the likely favorite was unlucky not to have won his last race at the bullring.......getting beat at the wire! Hi Card Gambler draws the inside and has the deadly speed to win this wide open race.



Race 9          Six Half Maiden Special Weight

A number of first time starters who avoided the condition at Del Mar are entered into this maiden special weight affair. Brass Plate a Keeneland blue blood looks live with the long series of workouts which I love to see in a first time starter. A Major Player! Free Pourin a colt by Roman Ruler is making his first start for Bob Baffert and gets the leading rider Martin Pedroza who might have broke the record of wins at Fairplex....... he has today and two more days to break the record. If the first time starters who I expect will be well bet in there debut need a race then I like this horse..... Spud Spivens finished full of run and had tons of trouble at Del Mar. Henry Moreno trains  this TizBud colt......... a great value at 20 to 1....... do not take this colt lightly if the first time starters fail to run. Check out his last work out at this track!

Race 10        Six Furlongs Claimer 16K

Punctual ran a dull race and regress her last start at Del Mar. She is not a turf horse and she runs better on this surface. She did not show speed and was taken back by P-Val in that race. She did not like the move........ I expect at this race Martin Pedroza will put her on the lead or mid pack then blast by the others at the top of the stretch. If she is off form....... then Miss Steamless trained by O'Neil looks sharp. Pretty Kinzie takes the double jump off the claim by Ted West will be in mid-pack and stalk the rabbits to close down the lane. If the race breaks down...... and it does not look to do on paper.... a maiden breakers who is facing winners for the first time Haunted Highway might just climb this ladder a win......... has a shot!

Race 11        One Mile Sixteenth Pomona Derby

1. Pico Pico looked better last year....last year at Fairplex he was behind Gallant Gent but not by much......A cagey trainer who can gets them cranked up......... with Flores in the irons.


2. Twenty Hawks........ well a three year old colt who has speed and speed kills at Fairplex but a minor award if any.


3. Southern Victory looked good winning his maiden at Hollywood. He looks over match in this race.


4. Stacy's Hope a quality horse...... with class. He is trying two turns today but love his racing style and speed numbers. A Major Player!


5. Bench The Judge has the speed numbers and class to win this.  He had to need his last race at Fairplex and just got smoked by Ron Ellis horse Pinal......... he ran a great race....... and the question is will he improve or bounce. A Player Major time if he steps up at the plate today.


6. Gallent Gent is the horse to beat.......Victor comes back to ride "The Gent"........ a short price!

GirwithGoldhoof has faced tougher at Hollywood. She comes back fresh and the trainers main man Quinonez can flat out ride! The favorite in this maiden race just might be Warren's Move Maker for trainer Jorge Guiterez. Goonie Goo Go trained by Mullins looks live!
