MONDAY LABOR DAY AT DEL MAR
Bank Update: $2979- $155= $2824
Race 1 One Mile Claimer 12K
Non Winners of two lifetime: The pace is void of fast factions on the front end except maybe David Flores will gun Bob Dylan tune Highway 66 ...... and take him as far as his wheel will go! 66 had trouble last race so take note! Little Ruler looks off form. Manofgold off slow in last race in similar conditions. The distance is ideal and should give Dazzling Razz a run for his money. Limited Will has been off since July and quite frankly if he is fit looks better then the whole lot of these horses........ he won his maiden Cal Bred 40k on the poly track last year. Bustanai a stone cold closer has the speed numbers to win but has little pace to run at.
$20 Place on Highway 66
Race 2 Five Furlong Optional Claimer
The pace looks fast and contested for this baby sprint on turf. Connagher looking for his 4th straight win..... is jumping up in class and not sold on the company he has beaten...... But having said that Connagher will likely be the favorite and a hint of a false favorite to boot. Sassou off more then ten months get P-Val. Sassou fires fresh and has run with better company and beat faster horses then Connagher........ Moonlark is the now horse beating a good field in his maiden win. He has been off for 2 months but has been firing bullets to get back in the races. He is bred for the turf so his first time on turf I see no problems..... Get Funky a veteran pro will be closing on the field...... He runs a great race then regress....at this condition Get Funky is dangerous...... My long shot pick is Square Deal who has speed numbers that fits......... look he almost beat Winter Camp and the red hot Quick Enough....... who if he ran who smoke these!
1. Sassou 2.Square Deal 3. Moonlark
$20 Place on Square Deal
Race 3 One Mile Optional Claimer 40K
A wide open good betting race for fillies:
American Story trained by Baffert look just awesome winning her maiden race. She was off slow and it looked to me that the distance was too short for her that day but she did her best running down the stretch. She should love the added distance of one mile. Take note she did post a big speed number. Tab the jockey switch on Dixie Unioness to Joel R. She had to need her last race from a barn that does fire second time out. Money Lover the speed of the race and the favorite but these fillies are better then what she beat her last race.......but a warning she has been firing bullets in the morning. Lava Girl looked good dead heated in her first start then ran into Malibu Pier and Hard Way Ten on the turf....... maybe she is not a turf horse....... but she has won at Del Mar on the poly track....... a contender! Dextera second race off a lay off and gets back to a new surface. She was claimed her last race at 40K. If the speed melts down she will be closing. Ten's Salty Sally is looking for her 4 straight win and gets the test in class but she is fit!
1. American Story 2. Money Lover 3. Lava Girl
$20 Across the board on American Story
Race 4 One Mile Sixteenth Turf Palomar G2
This race has come up short on fast pace. Lilly Fa Pootz was all heart in the Mabee with a extra second would have flew by Wasted years....... this distance is shorter and lacks a front runner. Gotten Have Her might just find herself on the front end in this small field...
1. Gotta Have Her 2. Lilly Fa Pootz
$20 Win Gotta Have Her
Race 5 Six Furlong Maiden Special Weight
A second time starter for Richard Mandella is Lea The Punisher who looks on paper to be the horse to fear! Steve's Blue Sky having a race under her belt should show major improvements and look P-Val re-rides....... a contender! Saratoga Fling adds blinkers after a dismal
start back east...... changes trainers and Baffert has put together a bullet her last drill....... fast and smokin.....love her long six furlongs drills... His Main man is taking over this one..... Rote has speed and takes the route to sprint angle for a hot trainer and jockey combo. The first time starter Officer Leah is bred for speed and has a series of excellent drills......... after all this ......Lea The Punisher with a big Beyer number and a race under her belt is the one to fear!
1. Lea The Punisher
$20 Place on Rote
Race 6 One Mile Sixteenth Claimer 8K
Skellytown drops to collect ........in the land of bottom claimers....not much in this race to choice from....... I like to beat him with short odds.....Joe Carl claimed last race and does have a great chance to beat Skellytown on the drop.... Streets Of Heavens is my long shot a hunch bet..... if the 2 top picks falter.
1. Skellytown 2. Joe Carl 3. Streets Of Heavens
Pick three $36-
Race 7 Six Furlongs Maiden Special Weight
If Shane Daniel draws this young colt is the one to beat! Third race after two respectable speed races........ looms very large in this field. Woodman's Luck was 2 off of Shane his last race.... might regress.... Baby Bull we can throw out his last race and should show a major improvement with a race under his belt. Martin re-rides and adds blinkers for his second race....which is a positive sign for improvement. The trainer is under rated and very cagey as he has put in a blow out in the morning for Baby Bull. The morning line gets my heart pumping...... He Be Fire N Ice almost beat Classic Bobby 2 races back....... with puts him in the mix. Swiss G will be over looked because he is jumping up in class......... Please do not take this horse lightly...... a contentious wide open affair!
1. Shane Daniel 2. Swiss G 3. Baby Bull
Take a long good look at Cold Bay
Race 8 Six Furlongs I'm Smokin Stakes
1. Gab Power gets P-Val and had a troubled trip to say the least in his starter allowance win. He loves Del Mar poly which is a plus...... A Major Contender!
2. Stormin Rae needs to beat Bench Point which has beaten him twice....
3. Mr. Gennaro look great beating 40k Cal Bred....... still looked good....... a outside shot!
4. Bench Points .... won the Graduation stakes by closing on a fast pace....... this race has come up short on speed....... but having said that looms like the horse to beat in I'm Smokin' stakes.
5. Joy Boy was beaten by Bench Points but a nice colt that just might turn the tables today...... a solid contender!
6. Swiss Tart has dance with a number of these horses today... looks fit but a tad too slow for my likings...
7. Lucky Mr. K has the same sire as Bench Points.... and ran a dull race in the Graudation Stakes but still learning the game....... tab his last workout was a smokin bullet the best of the day!
8.Jailbird Jimmy third race after lay off ...... and still a maiden and I expect after this race will be a maiden again.... love the trainer and jockey.......... not outside the realm of possible horses...... the race has to set up perfect for this closer to win.
9.Warren's Gus I like the pedigree and the trainer and jockey but for what he has done in the past ....... would be a complete shocker!
10.Offlee Wild Boys a live long shot with the morning line at 15 to 1.... much to like about this one!
11.Edgewick Road blinkers on and drops out of the waters of a grade 3 race..... has not raced in two months....... Tyler is hurt and a hustling rider is up!........
1. Bench Points 2. Gab Power 3 Offlee Wild Boys
cost of ticket $20
Late Pick Three All with 1 and 8 with 1
Cost of Ticket Minus $18
.
Race 9 One Mile Claimer 20K
Can Jerry Fanning win a race this meet........ he has a horse that looks live with his workouts and just might surprise..... I grew up with his kids and my best friend's sister married into the Fanning family......... so I might be bias to this pick.
1. Booyah
Race 10 One Mile Sixteenth Turf Maiden Special
A tough maiden special weight race on turf. Roman Chic might be the speed and will press the pace. If she takes to the turf which I see no problem in....... is a major contender........ Domanican Dandy jumps off that horse to go to Russian River who posted a huge speed number two races back. She has the unlucky post position on the outside........ which if she does not lose too much ground on the first turn can stalk the pace and close........ the race must set up perfect for her. Lemony Fresh showed speed her last race but needs to show me more before I unload on her. I expect the import is the horse to beat Dubawi Heights....... she has 6 posted workout on the turf at Del Mar...... the question is fitness with her but she has raced with some quality horses in Europe........she has never raced a route and has been off for 8 months she her drawback. But Joel takes the mount all the signals are a GO!
