CLOSING DAY AT DEL MAR

Bank Update for Labor Day. I put $20 Place on Dylan's Tune Hiway 66 returned ROI $78.... I put $20 place on Square Deal ROI $84. I made a small $20 across the board on American Story ROI $30. $20 to win on Gotta Have Her ROI $20. $20 Place on Rote returned $24.... minus two pick three ticket of $38....... Labor Day ROI $198... grinding type of day!.... Labor Day Bank was $2824+$198=$3022....... Closing day BANK $3022......

Race 1             Five Half Furlongs Claimer 25K
The condition is non winners of two.......... period!
The factions of the pace look hot and contested....Lime At Nite  with weight off looks live he will gun him to the lead. Bold Type might be right behind Lime. Quoted with Joel who lately has riding the main surface with a style out of Eddie D's play book....... take back then close going wide!  Having said that.... Quoted wheeled back in a week might just be the horse to fear in the opener! Pride of Wilshire has tactical speed and just pure speed if need be........ he can close too! He is facing winners for the first time..... needs to step it up..... Greenwich a route to sprint play....... maybe... he does get off the turf to try the main track. He is coming off a 3 month lay off with modest works but is seeking a competitive level that might wake up this semi plodder type....... My Man Marty has a for sale sign around his neck because Mitchell claimed him for 50K and enters him in this 25K claimer....... anyone has 25K pocket change to buy this one.....I see little takers....if he runs back to his Beyer numbers in April or June then....beware is the word!

Pick three    2   with All with 2,5,8
Cost Of Ticket $15

Race 2             Six Furlongs C.E.R.F. Stakes

1. Softly Singing a 3 year old filly! She posted a 91 Beyer last year in her maiden win at Del Mar........ has been a money burner for the bettors....... talented but a seems to not give her best!

2. Holding Her Ground the highweight of this group. She is looking for her fourth straight win..

3. Boniface ........ I had in the Daisycutter with big odds......She gets off the turf. No problem! She has speed and tactical speed if she needs it.

4. Mother Ruth....... drops back into friendly water then he Grade One company....... great record 4 wins 3 seconds 1 show out of ten races.......  scary speed figures!

5. Minute Limit has tactical closing kick.......and the pace scenario sets up perfect for Minute Limit to pounce on the rabbits at the wire.

6. Fund Raiser has hit the board in all her 11 races..... Hot trainer and Hot Jockey and loves the poly track...... Beware!

Race 3             One Mile Three Eights Turf Optional

Mike Mitchell trains two horse in this race Achak and Dynamic Range. Dynamic Range won this marathon 2 back then tried the Grade 2 waters which turned out way too deep.  He his back with friends and on paper looks like the best horse in this rare turf marathon. The pace just might be Scorpion Time who ran a smasher coming back from a long lay off........ he should move forward.

Hit Early Pick Three   2 with All with 2,5,8 cost $15
     Returned $54.30

Race 4             Six Furlongs Pirate's Bounty Stakes
It looks like the horses that enter this stakes race has signed up for speed.......Spaniard will be sent from the rail along with El Scorpio and Truest Legend........ in a perfect race it sets up for the class of the race to close on the rabbits. She has won more money then the whole field combined. Dancing in Silks is her race to win or lose. She is coming back from more then 6 months off. Fitness is the key but she has won off a rest before....... Beware!

            1. Dancing In Silks

Pick Three   1,3,6  with 1,5,10 with 2,11  cost $18

Race 5             Six Furlongs Optional Claimer

The class of the race is Always A Princess. This 3 year old filly is coming back after a long lay off.... the question is one of fitness.  Does Baffert have her cranked up to win off the bench.  all systems look like a go!......  beware!  As for pace Tamerin is the speed and  " come and catch her."  She too is coming back since February. She fires fresh and sports a excellent come back work out tab! Charlie's Princess is facing winners for the first time and is coming back from a long lay off...... Tab for later. Perfect Vintage is fit and just won at 25K. This field might be tougher for her....... but she is fit making her 3rd race after a short vacation. JR goes to the Princess and Bejarano climbs on her! Jaws N Paws a interesting long shot....... if Princess and Tamerin need a race....... this 4 year old filly her last race had a ton of trouble and will clear sailing would have won......I like this filly Jaws N Paws if the speed melts down has a good closing kick to win. Matt Garcia is hungry for a win for Barry Abrams........ tab for improvement.

   1. Always A Princess   2. Jaws N Paws  3. Tamerin

Pick Three   Minus $18

Race 6             Five Half  Maiden 40K
A wide open affair and just might be the hardest race to handicap on today's card. Ez Rachel if she draws in might want to take a long look at this maiden special weight horse dropping into a Cal Bred 40k.......she has 2 fast works for this race. Alevei second race having a ton or trouble in her first start looks ok....... trained by a cagey trainer Art Sherman and P-Val re-rides makes me think this race she should show major improvement. Queenie Marie trained by Baffert has slow modest drills from this barn. Martin is up and she takes a drop in class! With the quality of this field which is weak... Shesawontomato has a slight experience edge over this field...... I watch the video of Freewayracer last race..... and tab her for a major improvement if she breaks cleanly....... and look who shows up a great under rated jockey who just has a perfect way to handle the horses.... Alonso Quinonez. The first time starter Meter Me Gone Looks live for Peter Miller.

   1. Freewayracer  2. She's Excessive  3. Meter Me Gone

Race 7             One Mile Turf Starter Allowance
Ruby Lane ran a hell of a race to lose ....... getting nipped at the wire. She has speed with little speed in the lineup. Rising Honour was my pick in her last race........ she fits with this field. Lost Prophet has speed and will go with Ruby Lane....... I vision both of these horses around the track and maybe.... hang on or a closing to pounce on these rabbits at the wire....... 4 horses in this race who are facing winners for the first time out......Tiz A Bud and Lost Prophet are the best of the maiden graduates... Tiz A Bud is a stone cold closer..... which plays good on the turf.... has a perfect closing style to win. I expect she might be overbet. Misinjennuous has run with much better and if we can excuse her last race because quite frankly there is no Malibu Pier or Hard Way Ten in this field..... Solis back in town........ look for this horse to run big! The Great Atlantic look best on paper and the one to fear down the stretch.

         1. The Great Atlantic  2 Ruby Lane  3. Misinjennuous
          Rising Honour long shot look

Pick three                 1,3,6,7 with 4,6,10 with 2,8 and 9
                                  cost $36
                                 UPDATE Pick Three paid $143.60

Pick Four  50 cent   1, 3,6,7 with 4,6,10 with 2,8,9, with 6,8

                                  Cost of Ticket  $36

                                 UPDATE  Pick Four $685

Race 8             Del Mar Futurity G1 Seven Furlongs 2yr.

Eleven  2 year old here they are.... Baffert sents out none...... Hollendorfer has two and the favorite J.P. Gusto is trained by David Hoffman....... can anyone beat this impressive winner of the Best Pal Stakes.

1. Jaycito I love the pedigree but this is a hard distance to win from the rail....

2. Riveting Reason..... gets Alex Solis who I think is back in town. Solis racing style of late is to fall back to last place then go 6 wide and close like Silky Sullivan....... but this horse is not that guy! I need to see the young Solis in 2010...... where he had the ****s to go to the rail and close ....... to win ..... not 10 wide Solis ... which is his name of late.

3. Mckenzie's Way........ did not beat much in his maiden win. He has never gone this distance. It would be a shocker if this one won.

4. J.P.Gusto........ has tactical speed or can be the speed if need be. Has won three straight races including the Best Pal...loves the poly surface which is the key element in handicapping Del Mar ..... not a easy task to do. The horse might just be running for the roses! The horse to beat if u can...... which I doubt!

5. Just Imagine is the best 2 year old in the stable of Doug O'Neil. He should love the added distance because of his pedigree. Tab the switch in jockeys gives me concern.

6. Major Art trained by the red hot Eric Kruljac. A X factor today and a good play if he takes to the poly track.

7. Western Mood almost beat JP in the video I posted on my blog.... can he turn the tables on him today....... needs to bring his A Plus game to the court. A excellent looking colt....... Major Player!

8. Indian Winter love the breeding and looked awesome winning his first race at Del Mar......... a major contender!

9. Comma To The Top likes Del Mar but got handled by the top two in this race........ hard to see a turn around that quickly!

10. Road Ready love the pedigree and should like the distance.... I watch the replay........ Please do not take this horse lightly.... and Major Player and can win this....

11. Gahnzo Bob blinkers on today and I like the jockey who just might be the under rated jockey in this colony........ a maiden still  ...

         1. J.P's  Gusto  2. Road Ready  3. Major Art

J.P.'s Gusto run for the roses!!

Race 9             Six Furlongs Claimer 12K

           1. Champagne Snob 2. Fair Chase 3. Miss Seamless

Race 10           One Mile Sixteenth Turf Maiden Special
The final race for the 2010 season at Del Mar....... My Xmas list includes with the main track going back to just old fashion dirt. This maiden special weight race at a route looks like a number of contenders....... The first horse that caught my eye was Tiz Argent trained by the leading trainer and Joel Rosario might need this to take the jockey title away from Bejarano.  Tiz Argent sired by Tiz Bud should take to the distance like a duck takes to water.....His first time on turf but I see no problem....... Looms large with his last two races running a respectable second in each race. A caveat is that he just might need a race ..... he looks scary in this field. My horse that I pick his last race was Marino's Star trained by Ron Ellis and a new jockey Martin Garcia takes the call.... He had more trouble then Carter has pills his last race..... boxed in then waited..... had no room to run. I have seen horses get in trouble ...... last race and then I thought they would run a smasher and in reality were not that good....... but I still expect with a little racing luck for this horse to improve off his third race. This is not a two horse race. Tribal Nation ran a race last time that should have won...... he looked excellent flying at the wire to barely miss getting his cap and grown. Papa Lev is a turf horse that goes back to his best surface today. He has run races that makes him a player.  Tab the jockey switch to Bejarano! Sammartino has big speed numbers and soon will get there.... He has 4 seconds and one show out of six races...... P-Val keeps the mount... he ran with Tribal Nation and was game at the wire!  A Contender!

         1.Tiz Argent   2. Marino's Star   3. Tribal Nation

UPDATE   Pick four return $685  ....... and JR the title!

                  Excellent job JR..........!!
