SUNDAY AT DEL MAR
No major thoroughbred has ever had a start like Zenyatta, none of the best male horses of all time, and certainly none of the fillies or mares. None have accomplished what Zenyatta has, not Citation, who began with five in a row and then ran off 16 straight in the 1940s and ’50s, a record tied by the great Cigar in the 1990s. Round Table won 11 in a row and then eight. Spectacular Bid, who burned off 12 straight, hit some bumps, and then finished his incredible career with 10 straight. Affirmed won 10 in a row and ended his career with seven straight. Secretariat won 10 in a row. Swaps and Kelso, eight in a row each. Seabiscuit, seven. None came close to having the perfect career that Zenyatta has.
Race 1 Five Half Maiden 40K
This is a wide open race because the horses with race experience do not get your heart pumping....... will they improve or regress.... Lake Believe broke sharply in her debut and with a race under her belt coupled with the speed she has........ she just might be long gone!
1. Lake Believe
Race 2 Seven Furlong Maiden 25K
The speed of the race Respendently the morning line favorite with Joel Rosario taking the call flop at the county fair in a maiden special weight drops to the bottom level today........ should win but he has been somewhat of a major disappointment with the bettors as he was the odds on favorite up north. This field he should be able to handle but I'm not quitting my day job or holding my breath. Our Juke Box Hero had to need his last race breaking slowly at the rail. He has tactical speed and has the right style to close on the speed. A hint of a price because the bulk of the money is going on JR's mount. Swongs last race was a major disappointment since I had him in my late pick three. The reason I like him was because of the Sire Montbrook which throws out some runners. He gets a major change of Blinkers and I expect today he will show more run! It has been low tide with the trainer "Run em Barry". I know that feeling Barry!
1. Respendently 2. Swongs 3. Our Jukebox Hero
Race 3 One Mile Turf Allowance
Ruination on paper looks to be the speed of this short field. He is shortening up to a mile with PV sending him to the lead......... looks like gate to wire! If the imports needs a race......... Patsy's Lil Buddy is stepping up in class and is light on the speed numbers..... but has found a home on the turf and has been firing bullets in the morning.
1. Ruination 2. Patsy's Lil Buddy
Race 4 Seven Furlong Maiden 25K
It looks like the race will shape up like this: Areomon will take them as far as he can go with 2 class droppers Valley Cat and Royal Import closing on Areomon.
1. Valley Cat 2. Royal Import 3. Areomon
Race 5 Six Furlong Claimer 25k
This field is suspect in that the racing condition is non winners of 2 coupled with the facts that the favorites has not beat much! Silver Squall has a series of work outs at this level that look well excellent. PV has ridden for this trainer before and won with him. He was claimed three years ago and his wheels have come off. By looking at his June and July morning drills....... he looks to fire! Maybe wishful thinking but I like this horse!
1. Silver Squall
Race 6 Five Half Maiden Special
I like 3 Sire babies in this competitive contentious wide open affair. Yes It's True..... Martin Pedroza a good gate jockey in a wide open race...... Might just watch this baby race...... True Way Of Grace ..... I do like Joy Scott's horse Blondies Bling sire which hits with 25% first time starters and has a nice bullet work out........ and Deadly Concerned looks live first time out!
1. Deadly Concerned
2. Blondies Bling
3. True Way Of Grace ( not in order of finish)
Race 7 One Mile Turf Claimer 40K
Seeuat Sticknstein has the highest 2 year old speed numbers in this field. With his pedigree there is no reason he cannot get a mile on turf. He is seeking a hat trick and has tactical closing speed to put himself right behind the rabbits and close down the stretch. He is my Pick!
1. Seeuat Sticknstein
Race 8 Best Pal
1. J P Gusto looked awesome in his second start to win the stakes race at Hollywood. He blew away the field. Then looked game in the Hollywood Juvenile where he beat Western Mood down the stretch. I do not like the rail stretching out to six and half with babies but he just might be this good!
2. Comma To The Top.............has early blazing speed and coupled with the fact that he does not need the lead to win....
3. Minutesandtouches still a virgin but as we have seen that is not my concern....... he has the right style to close off the pace. Minor award....
5. Western Mood making his 3rd start in his brief career and was beaten by Gusto..... this added distance he should relish.... I can see him biting his lips because of the fast pace and added distance today.
6. Sway Away..... If you have followed my blog I watch his first race up north......... and I was impressed with this horse..... he just might be a horse to run for the roses! He has a big speed figure at the fair....... has great pedigree that is what I like his pedigree...
7. River's Chapel......... a rabbit with Comma To The Top.... but I still like him...... gets the test today with Graded Stakes colts.
1. Sway Away
Race 9 One Mile Sixteenth Claimer 12K
1. Joe Carl !!
