Race 1 Six Half Furlong Claimer (20K)
1. Thunder and Ice 2. Halfpondarosa
Race 2 Five Furlong Maiden Special Weight
Royal Ancestry debuts with a strong work out tab and is the daughter of blue blood Distored Humor. Funny Cide! His main man is up on the mount and looks live for a baby race going five furlongs. I'm watching this one.......... Wickedly Perfect sports some great fast drills in the morning and Bejarano is riding. Romanette is another contender with good works and pedigree.
Race 3 One Mile Sixteenth Turf Allowance
Interesting betting race with Excellent News scratching out today and a short field which is a concern to me in playing the So. Cal. Racing Circuit. But, it is what it is, lately at Hollywood. Lilly Fa Pootz looks to me to be the one to fear closing down the lane. Ms G.I. Jane will be the speed and might get brave with a lonely lead. Oui Say Oui won at this distance and is a major player.... Beware because she will have a say in the outcome of this race.
Race 4 Six Furlong Claimer (20K)
Winter Camp drops in class has been freshened up and in for 20k, maybe a fire sale........... and hard to trust what shows up.... He has beat Lions Story in February and who knows what Winter Camp shows up. If it is the horse that beat Lions Story and others everyone will be running for second place. But, Go figure!
California Soldier has 4 wins in his 8 starts. Trainer Morey has been firing horses of these types from Northern Ca. to Hollywood all meet. And looks who's riding this one, Bejarano! Lucky Fitz after a six month lay off needed his last race and should improve today.
Don't dismiss Coluda ,who is facing winners for the first time but ran a good maiden special weight race first time out then dropped to 20k maidens and held on to win. My main concern is will he take to the the cushion track but Gaines and Joel hook up in what might be a horse to watch rising up the class ladder. I like the breeding on this horse. No real monster's in this sprint except Winter Camp and California Solider......
$20 Show Coluda
$5.80 to show = $38+ $733= $771
Race 5 One Mile Turf Allowance
Cassidy's horse The Unual Q.T. has been freshened up from his trip to the middle east and looks prime for a big performance in this miler on the turf. He loves Hollywood having won the Grade One Hollywood Derby last year. Darkota Phone is a top runner and was beaten a foot by Grade One Monzante...... he is a contender along with Aggie Engineer
Race 6 Seven Furlong Claimer (32K)
A good betting race with no stand out going seven furlongs. Mr. Saturdaynight hard to tell who shows up with him. Sadler bumps him up one class level and John knows his skills and it is encouraging.
Forthreeforeuclid is not turf horse and I expect a better performance with a class drop change in surface and Joel getting the call. Circle Drive drops and maybe he will wake up at this level and distance. I think Summer at Del Mar is better on semi dirt then turf. He changes to the cushion track. He is no turf specialist and should love the seven furlongs. I expect a good value play with Summer at Del Mar.! The odd ball is the Fanning horse Cookie Rules. He has been freshened up and I like the two 5 furlong drills in June with a blow out. Hoffman and Fanning have in the past put together some long shots at this meet. Mike Smith takes the call and the distance of seven furlongs seems to be what this horse might want to run.
Race 7 Robert K. Kerlan Six Furlong Turf
Unzip Me a filly is preparing to meet the Guys today. She is a top turf sprinter having won five straight. This is not easy task and the key might be that she does have tactical speed and might dictate the pace and try to keep Noble Court and Kelly leak away down the lane. Scenic Blast is a interesting long shot for me today having won a Grade One race in England. He has been freshened up but this is not a easy spot to make his U.S. debut. My Summer Slew looks great winning on May 2 sitting right off the pace and finish full of run. I like this horse today but might be looking from behind with the speed rabbit Unzip Me setting a blazing pace today! Cayamba is interesting horse..... He looked great in his last race and is a Major Player if there is a melt down. If Unzip Me falters with a speed melt down this race is wide open....... that's the question "Unzip me is the speed of the speed and might not look back!".
Late Pick three
7th Unzip Me and My Summer Slew
8th All
9th Arte Vera with Not Here
Race 8 Seven Furlong Starter
The Whammer looked good May 28th and drew off to a fairly easy win. Tab him right back today! Maybe? Sufi Dancer like The Whammer looked great and won coming off a long vacation. And look who's riding Bejarano and Mike Mitchell hitting at a blazing 40% when they team up......... Mike usually has his horses cranked up... The main question is in this race is: will these horses regress or more forward. That leaves Sammy's A Runnin' blinkers off is a contender in this short field today!
Race 9 Mile Turf Maiden Special Weight
Not Here debut on the main track ran into Rapport and finished second...... she looked full of run in her first race. She is bred to love the turf top and bottom. Not here is out of Gone west and out of a Storm Cat Mare. She is the threat to win this turf route going a mile today. Another shooter is Good Vibration changed surfaces and added blinkers. Arte Viva had to need her last race Joel stays put and her first race overseas makes her a Major Player if Not Here or Good Vibration faulters down the lane. Laura Beasley is a interesting long shot and she takes off her blinkers. She has run races that puts her in the mix. Blanc who might be the best turf jockey at Hollywood is. I always like his riding style on the turf and it feels like Eddie D. is still riding. Irish Torrent seems to be right in the best position down the lane and cannot seal the deal. Pass! Kaysa Deeya get the hot Tyler Blaze but lands in the outside post and he must sent her or she might lose to much ground on the first turn.
