LONGSHOT UNDERGROUND NOTES FOR THE BC JUVENILE FILLIES

With two of the 15 pre-entrants having first preference for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT), it appears the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) could have a field of 13.
And of those 13 2-year-old fillies, 10 are coming out of three grade I stakes: the Frizette at Belmont Park, Alcibiades at Keeneland, and Chandelier at Santa Anita Park. One exits the Pocahontas Stakes (gr. II), and the remaining two last raced in maiden special weight events.
The four fillies with a race on the dirt at Santa Anita, this year's Breeders' Cup host site, are the top four finishers in the 1 1/16-mile Chandelier: Angela ReneeConquest EclipseDanette, and Majestic Presence. Angela Renee and Conquest Eclipse began their racing careers on the East Coast and in the Midwest, but they have been galloping and working regularly at Santa Anita.
Don't Tell My Wife Stables' Danette, by Curlin   out of the Dixieland Band mare Sugar Britches, rallied nicely for third in the Chandelier but remains a maiden after five starts. She has, however, improved with each start for trainer Keith Desormeaux.
Danette is the second foal out of Sugar Britches, whose lone victory came at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.
Hennythelovepenny, owned by Fink, La Vida Loca Racing Stable, Rogitz, and Silverstein, showed major improvement when trainer Peter Miller moved her to the dirt for her last race, a seven-furlong maiden special weight event at Santa Anita. The Henny Hughes filly won by 6 1/2 lengths in the good time of 1:23.75 on a fast track after finishing sixth and second in maiden-claiming company on the Del Mar Polytrack.
Her dam, Amaretta, by Woodman, has had a productive life as a broodmare. Second in the Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT) during her racing career, Amaretta, has produced six winners, one graded stakes-placed and the other stakes-placed.
Donegal Racing's Puca, the other filly exiting a maiden win, won a 1 1/16-mile special weight around one turn at Belmont in 1:46.09 on a track rated good for trainer Bill Mott. The Big Brown   filly showed little sprinting on the dirt in her debut, but followed up with a solid third-place finish at 1 1/16 miles on the grass behind the talented Lady Eli at Saratoga Race Course.
Puca's dam, Boat's Ghost, has four winners from four starters, including Finnegans Wake, a grade III winner going long on the turf and grade I- and grade II-placed, all on grass.
The two fillies with first preference in the Juvenile Fillies Turf are Lady Zuzu, who broke her maiden going long on the grass at Keeneland, and She's Complete, winner of the one-mile Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar.
