Hollywood Park Opening Day...... the cushion track....might be the most consistent fair surface in Southern California. The surface where most all the horses run true to form.....unlike Del Mar and the speed favoring track of Sanita Anita dirt track.
Let`s have a profitable meet at Betfair Hollywood Park. It looks to be a competitive card with decent value opening day. We will tally up the picks after the last race. The Bank will start with a hundred dollars.
BANK $100.00
$612.80 minus $65.00
Bank $547.80
UPDATE NO TURF RACING TODAY
RACE 1
One mile and a sixteenth claimer for 12 G`s opens Hollywood Spring-Summer meet. Capture The Call hot in the claim box steps up one level.....Major player.....for the win...Rosario climbs aboard Bronster.....who has never raced this low of a claiming level. His second race after a layoff..... He switches back to the cushion track after running on the turf. Laser Point got collar by Spicy Beau.....He looks fit. Life Is A Rock as a three year old has a touch of back class...He has faced much better company up north. He will be overlooked by the betting public..... do not dismiss as he switches back to the cushion track after running on turf. His April works suggest that he is ready to run a big race.
1. Capture The Call
2. Life Is A Rock
3. Bronster
$20 place and show on 1 ROI $32.00
RACE 2
A short dash for fillies and mares in this 20 G maiden race. Kissin In The Dark debut was horrible last summer at Del Mar. One race does not make a career....She has ultra fast workouts for this level....Matt Chew trains this daughter of A.P. Indy......Flores takes the call. If she runs like she runs in the morning she will be scary from the outside post.
Silver Gun Girl by Storm Cat looks ready to fire first out of the gate by trainer Jerry Lee. I like the long six furlongs drills.
Scott Hansen a under-rated trainer sends out All Six Sisters who debut last summer at Del Mar. She has a win early pedigree. Do not dismiss!
A Full Tank Of Gas a first time starter by Puype looks like a runner to me. Sing A Tales third race of career should move forward on the rail.
1. Silver Gun Girl....like the works
2. Six Sisters.....Fallbrook trained
3. A Full Tank Of Gas
$20 place on 6 ROI $34.00
RACE 3
A five and half claiming sprint for 8 G`s non winners of two this year. La Hijo Maestra won her debut a year ago. She exits a good maiden race.... I like the odds and the excellent pedigree on this filly.....She will not be bet because of the short distance and the lay-off. Si Mar`s Dear could not get to Big Tismisis in her last race....She drops in class..... Five Star Cruise gets the rail with time off.....She is fresh after her last win at this level....Eswan is a major plus with weight off. Can`t Topper returns to the cushion track where she has two wins ... John Martin looks to have her cranked up for this. Cerin who had five wins closing weekend sends out Folk Dancer. Studio City looks live shipping in.....Krigger adds to the appeal.
1. Can`t Topper....likes this track
2. La Hijo Maestra...interesting live one
3. Folk Dancer.......Cerin is hot!
Longshot Studio City....sharp and fit
$20 place on 3 ROI $12.00
RACE 4
A maiden claiming sprint for 50 G`s for three year olds. Bob Baffert sends out Ranchero.....who before last race was training ultra fast.....then after last start he seems to have backed off Ranchero in his training in the morning time. He has put five semi slow works for Baffert into him. He drops for a first time tag. If he runs back to the race where Roman Threat won he will very hard to deny in this maiden claimer. Jeff Bonde sends out Cast A Doubt who drops another level. He has speed from the outside post........should get a perfect stalking trip. Hammer The Bay ran a respectable third in his debut five months ago. He has speed and will surely use it. Tap It In trained by Ron Ellis is coming back after more then a year.....first time for sale. Second time out for Beau Royale should improve with a race under his belt. He has been training ultra fast....do not dismiss because of the other big time droppers in this race. He trains at this track.
1. Ranchero
2. Cast A Doubt
3. Beau Royale
$20 place 7 ROI $16.00
Pick Three 1 with 7 with ALL cost $9.00
PAID $198.60
RACE 5
One mile on the turf allowance N1X for fillies and mares. Triveni and Caelis with exits the same race and the same condition last time out. Both shortens up to one mile. Peter Miller looks to have Caelis ready at this distance. I expect Miss Tea Cup to press the early pace....come catch her if you can. The import Byrony trained by Sadler has a good record as a three year old......4 wins out of 8 starts.......Now as a four year old...... I expect she will be tough in this spot.....comes in fresh.....Rosario rides this major contender. Last Sting claimed for 32 G`s...... steps up to face allowance company.....she is a threat from slightly off the pace.....she does have a bit of a hanger down the lane in her.
1. Caelis.
2. Last Sting
3. Miss Sea Cup....
$20 place on 5 ROI $58.00
Longshot Slane Castle
Pick Four 7 with All with 2,6 with 10 OUT
Pick three 7 with All with 2,6
Suggested play cost $18.00
PAID $324.80
RACE 6
A maiden 20 G sprint for fillies and mares. On paper, the Kathy Walsh dropper looks scary.....Tiz A Brite Miss......my concerns .....why the drop to the cellar.....why is Rosario not riding her today. A short price filly returning after five months off for a new trainer and a new surface.....The good news.....this field is weak! Moerover, this race looks very suspect to me. Can`t trust anyone here.
The pace looks like Ralphy Girl..... one of these days she will not stop.....she has been stopping the last furlong. Silver Luna one of these days will find a field she can bet....She should stalk from off the pace. She should get a fast pace to run at. Patrick V. is back on a first time starter Family And Friends...... trained by Eddie Truman...... check the tote for more clues... The X factor longshot play might be Salon Blonde a good sire Indian Charlie. She was hammered down in her debut.....two to one..... trainer is excellent with second time starter....She adds the blinkers for her second career start. She gets a fast track today unlike the slop she ran in her debut. Banana Split a horse I bet in her debut has a shot. Torre Italiana has run races that fits with these....had a trouble trip......
1. Tiz A Brite Miss
2. Torre Italiana
3. Salone Blonde
Longshot Banana Split
Place Torre Italiana minus $20
RACE 7 HARRY HENSON STAKES
1. Sir Allison.....excellent pedigree.....Baffert trains this speedy guy....should like the turf....
2. Senor Rain....Peter Miller trains at Hollywood.....He should close from off the pace. Go-Go rides. A major player to win this race..... might be over-looked at the windows. The race sets up for this guy .......... a ton of early speed in this race...... I like this guy.
3. Chickie Charms.....speed is his name......looked very good last weekend where Peter Eurton won his eight straight race at Santa Anita. Do we see nine.....not a easy spot.....
4. Diamond Of Blue.....talented shipper that gets the acid test on class.
5. Consulado...by More Then Ready should like the turf. He was the beaten favorite where Senior Rain beat him last race. He posted big speed numbers in his maiden win.....He looks to rebound sprinting on the turf.
6. American Act...... He beat Bodemeister going short in his maiden race....He then stepped up and gave Drill all he could handle at the wire.....He is better sprinting then going long!
7. Passing Game.....the mid pack closer in a race with alot of speed.....sets up for this guy....with Senor Rain.
8. Koast.....He is two for two after switching to the turf. He has speed but needs to clear the outside post with other speed in the field. This colt by Lawyer Ron has found a home on the turf.....He needs to clear from the outside so he does not lose ground on the first turn.
1. Senor Rain......ton of speed for fly by
2. American Act.....cuts back in distance
3. Consulado.....just might be this good!
Longshot Passing Game
$20 Place and Show Senor Rain ROI $28.00
RACE 8
A talented field of Cal-Bred two year old fillies ends the nightcap....Mike Harrington looks loaded with fillies in his barn O Happy Gray has been training fast. California leading sire has three daughters in this race. Sherlock trained Awe Some Kitten.......Solis has two fillies Awe Golly Molly and Kiptiddy Do......
