DERBY DAY
DERBY DAY ANALYSIS
BANK $100.00
RACE 1
Cal-Bred N1X route race kicks off the Saturday card. Liberal Arts has won at this level. He is stretching out again to two turns. He´s Very Rare looked good breaking his maiden in his second route race....Mike Smith rides Corner Office who gets back on the dirt after finishing third on the turf. Love That Action won his debut....He has the perfect running style to win from lightly off the pace. He had trouble and still won....looked very good winning.....tab for major improvement going long. Valley Cat Eurton trained with Bejarano should get a good trip from off the pace.
Wide open.....
RACE 2
A sprint for 16 G´s for four year olds and up. Solar Rocket claimed out of the Baffert barn returned after a year vacation and won. Take note the race was non winners of two. He might do the classic bounce off that good performance. He might just win this race. Classical Slew trained by Mulhall who drops him to a level he has never raced before. I like the work outs......if he runs like he works in the morning time he can win at this level. Coo Cachoo looks to run better taking the blinkers off for trainer Blake. He gets the rail so he must clear with speed in this race. Bejarano know this one well. Hasty Trend looked good winning from slightly off the pace....the race sets up for his style with speed in this race.
1. Classical Slew
2. Solar Rocket
3. Coo Cachoo
¨Pace Play Format V
Pick Three 1,3,6,7 with 1,2,6 with 2 out!
RACE 3
A first level allowance turf sprint down the hill. Mint Humor is the horse to beat here after losing last time in a highly regarded race....key race with a number of horses coming back and winning. Relentless Heat could not collar Sauce at this level in his last race. He cuts back in distance which will only help his chances. Helimark is coming back fresh.....interesting longshot with turf pedigree......good connections.....Eswan riding....do not take lightly this one. Lewis looks to have him ready with a number of solid works. He still needs to step up and beat the favorites which is not a easy task to do here.
1. Mint Humor
2. Relentless Heat
3. Helimark
RACE 4
Mike Harrington sends out the first time starter French Storm....who said last summer at Del Mar.....this horse might be more talented then Creative Cause..... hard to believe that statement but let´s take a long look at this high price colt of A.P. Indy.....connections own Creative Cause.
Baffert sends out the first time starter Designer. He looks to be a runner to me. Another first time starter is Regulus by Distored Humor.....Rosario rides this talented colt.
Julio Canani looks to have the favorite My Best Brother who was hammered down in his debut....a brother to Stormello.....Grade 1 winner of the Hollywood Futurity.
1. French Storm
2. My Best Brother
3. Designer
Longshot Regulus
RACE 5
A turf maiden special weight race for three year olds. Currahee looks like he will like this distance....He does his best running late. A major player! He just could not get to Boat Trip down the hill. Quatar´s Pearl the beaten favorite in his last four start has shown ability.... A head case that needed time off....He comes back fresh with 50 days off....Tab the jockey switch to Rosario. Montego Bay needs to break cleanly....He cuts back in distance.... A excellent turf pedigree by War Chant. John Sadler sends out Majestic Moment.....a high priced coly by A.P. Indy. His debut was last summer at Del Mar.....bred for the surface and bred for turf... Gomez takes the call. Risky Reward might turn out to be a good claim by Sadler.....should love the two turns.....good betting value with this live longshot.

2. Quatar´s Pearl
3. Currahee

RACE 6
The Santa Anita Derby one mile and a eighth on the main track for three year olds. Top billing goes to Creative Cause who takes off the blinkers for trainer Mike Harrington. He does his best running stalking the speed then turning for home...... kicking clear down the lane. He posted a big speed number of 102 in the San Felipe......He has never run a dull race. He is the one to beat. I´ll Have Another posted a speed figure of 96 in the Robert Lewis. His 2012 victory was really impressive. A major contender as he will be pressing the pace ahead of Creative Cause. Baffert is always live with these big time races....He sends out two here. Liason who looks to be on the upswing with form....A player. Paynter who looked awesome sprinting on his debut last Feb. He is bred for the distance.....his main man re-rides.... A maiden who I have always liked is Brother Francis.....very talented colt trained by Jim Cassidy..... look he will outrun his odds....He needs this race to go to the race for the roses. I expect Cassidy has him cranked up for this race.

2. I´ll Have Another
3. Brother Francis
RACE 7
One mile allowance optional claimer for four year olds and up.
Baffert sends out Patriot´s Voyage who looked awesome winning his maiden in a off track. Fiddler´s Afleet is back with friends after testing the graded waters......He beat American Blend and could not get to Sekuko..... major player that will get bet. RACE 8
One mile and a eighth on turf for three year old fillies. Lady Of Shamrock looked visually impressive in the China Doll. Sadler looks to have her ready for another big performance with her last bullet in the morning time....Mike Smith only adds to her appeal. I have thought it was time for Charm The Maker to try the turf.....She is one classy filly last year. She looks to press the pace with Rosario riding her.....do not take her lightly. Killer Grace is bred for this surface....she beat Shamrock two back..... Bejarano rides this classy filly....Indigo River will be out winging it early.....She looked rank last time out.....she will be tough if she relaxes in this race.....Byrama won easy last time out.....her U.S. debut she was beaten by Shamrock.....but she had a horrible start.....expect her to turn the tables on this group.....a very tough cast of salty fillies.
1. Killer Graces
2. Lady Of Shamrock
3. Charm The Maker
Longshot Byrama
Big Pool in Pick Four $750,000

RACE 9
A Grade 2 sprint race with two of the top sprinter´s on the West Coast. Amazomie and Sway Away.....both Mensa Heat and Roman Threat look like contenders in this race.
Amazombie looked short in his last start with the Factor and Sway Away.....The Factor wired the group from gate to wire. I expect Roman Threat and Courtside if he runs and Thunder of Zion to press a fast pace....it sets up for Sway Away and Amazombie and the sneaky longshot Camp Victory to stalk....then turning for home the real racing will begin.
1. Sway Away
2. Amazombie
3. Camp Victory
$20 Show Camp Victory
Pick Three 1,2 with 4 with 1,6,8,9

RACE 10
American Beauty Non Graded stakes race at the distance of one mile on the turf for fillies and mares. I picked Gem Of Soul to win her debut in the states.....She looked awesome winning a modest bunch.....She might be this good for trainer AC. The Irish import Belle Royale makes her US debut for trainer Callaghan.....She gets the leading rider Rosario....and is the morning line favorite after beating boys in her last three races over seas. Sweetly Peppered fits after her last win....she has currnet form.....Calle Vista a mare trained by Mandella is coming back fresh.....she looks ready to rumble in this spot. I have her on my watch list......good odds which the public will overlook today..... Rosehill Drew finally ran to her pedigree.....Gomez rides this head case.....She looked to be a very good import before getting into all types of trouble during her short US career.....She looks to be coming around.....do not quickly dismiss her.....player who get the cozy rail today!!!
1. Belle Royale
2. Calle Vista
3. Gem Of Soul- Sweet Peppered
RACE 11
A low level maiden going seven furlongs ends Derby Day..... I hope you had fun.....on paper the Midnight Con cuts back in distance.....looks to be the one to fear.......
