Notes from the Underground

This Saturday at the Great Race Place the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes is the feature race then on Sunday the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes looks very wide open.......both look like good betting races.

In the Santa Ynez Stakes Grade 2 Reneesgotzip smoked the field  leading all the way at every furlong pole for trainer Peter Miller. The sophomore filly was ridden by Corey Nakatani.

COREY NAKATANI, RENEESGOTZIP, WINNER: “I’ve been getting on this horse in the morning for Pete (Miller), and she’s showed me every time what she can do. She was a little green coming to the quarter pole today. She shied and drifted out so I shook her up right there and she responded. It’s a good thing that Pete puts me to work on her because you get to know what she’s capable of doing. He’s confident in what we wanted to do with her. She’s a tremendous filly.”

In the San Fernando Stakes Grade 2 Tapizar again ridden by Nakatani was game at the top of the lane then kicked clear to win for trainer Steve Asmussen..... talented four year old colt!

In the San Gabriel Stakes Grade 2.... I think Donald Warren was surprised when Norvsky beat the favorite down the stretch.... This Calbred loved the distance....He really stepped up big time.

RAFAEL BEJARANO, NORVSKY, WINNER: “We were going really slow in the beginning and I was wondering if the pace would stay that way. So I just tried to get in close and not stay too far back. At the half-mile pole I was trying to improve my position, and when I got to the stretch my horse showed me a big kick. I knew he was going to win the race then. My horse is still learning, and I think the perfect distance for him is either a mile and one sixteenth, or a mile and an eighth. He’s always doing very good at both distances.”

Sky Kingdom by Empire Maker trained by Bob Baffert looked like he could run any distance. This three year old maybe will run for the roses.

Thirtyfirststreet trained by Doug O´Neil was one of the easiest winners last week. This four year old filly is stake bound...fun to watch her next race.

Lara Antipova trained by Mike Puype came back off a layoff and was visually impressive.

Segway trained by Richard Mandella....is a keeper....this well bred three year old colt is very talented..... run for the roses maybe.... we will see later in the year.

Bodemeister another Baffert horse should win next time out.... short price favorite.

American Act in the 7th race on the holiday card looked very game as he won..... check out his next starts....good value with this pedigree.
