Santa Anita Autumn Opening Day
RACE 1
A seven furlong claimer for 25 G's. Chinese Praise looked good winning his second straight race over the bullring. Deluxe Bus should get the perfect trip stalking the pace from the cozy outside post with Bejarano riding. Liberal Arts a horse that has been a disappointment with me won over this track. His third race hoping for further improvement. Quite A Honor did not like the polytrack.... His closing style suits this race. The pace lacks any pure speed types on the front end except Revenge.... Come Catch him.....The pace makes this race. Lime Rock Revenge looked good winning at Fairplex Park against older horses.
1. Lime Rock Revenge
2. Chinese Praise
3. Deluxe Bus
RACE 2
A non winners other then maiden or non winners of two allowance sprint race. Runflatout three year old campaign was solid after smoking his maiden debut over this track. This distance is what he does best. He drops in class after running back east. He is the one to beat for trainer John Sadler. Bob Baffert sends out two horses.... Gator Warrior and Red Ace. Red Ace the clockers like as so do I.... lightly raced....he was sold for a truck-load of jack....... bullets works in tow..... Master Chief exits a highly regarded key race in which he finished second...
1. Red Ace
2. Runflatout
3. Master Chief
RACE 3 SENATOR KEN MADDY STAKES
The sprint on the downhill turf with the defending champion Unzip Me and five distaffers sign up the run this grade three race. The lineup includes:
1. Waveline.....trained by Ben Cecil this six year old mare last year in the Maddy ran second to Unzip Me. She was one and half lengths behind at 13 to 1. She finish 5th behind Unzip Me in the Daisycutter.
2. Unzip Me..... she used the 2010 Maddy as a prep for the Breeders' Cup getting third against males. Marty Jones trains as she has a awesome record over this course. She is the one to beat.
3. Broken Dreams.... finish second to Unzip Me then beat her at Hollywood by 2 lenghts....Go Go rides for Glen Hill Farms
4. Tanda... This 4 year old Sweetsouthernsaint filly is talented....I expect the tote board to have her as the second favorite...... Joe Talamo rides..... good record as on the improve...beware!
5. Separate Forest.....She has both tactical speed and sprinter speed to make a big impact at this distance.... She might turn the tables on this field....lot's to like
6. Givine......French bred was third in the Daisycutter...... Trained by Canai as Joel Rosario rides this gray filly....I like her at this distance.
1. Unzip Me
2. Broken Dreams
3. Givine
RACE 4
A sprint for 30 G maidens in a race that looks wide open. Harris Farms sends out first time starter Company Meeting. Sean McCarthy trains as Martin Garcia rides. I feel Free by Old Topper is bred to win early. I expect this race a better performance. Roger Stein sends out two first time starter....maybe... The dropper Solana Soleil...drops big time and check out his works back east at Keenland....beware. Art Sherman sends out a dropper with excellent pedigree....his second race for Enuff Bull....expect improvement.
1. Solana Solei
2. Company Meeting
3. Enuff Bull
RACE 5
A state restricted sprint for maiden special weight maidens. The colt by Grand Slam trained by Bruce Headley Cyclometer a first time starter ridden by Joe Talamo looks very live here. He is bred for speed and I like the long six furlong morning works he put into him. Sun's Out tried turf then tried routing..... a slight headcase but he gets back to the surface and the distance best suited for him.... He looks to come out running with Go-Go riding. Field Report is the horse on paper that is the one to beat. Rosario rides for a great owner and trainer....He has the highest improving speed figure in this race....Beware! Silver Dragon exits Fairplex with a big speed figure. The field was modest but he fits with these....and will be over-looked today at the windows.
1. Field Report
2. Sun's Out
3. Sentry's Duty
FTS Cyclometer
RACE 6
One mile on the turf for non winners of two for 25 G's. Dyhere stretches out in distance. She is bred for the turf and distance. Mo Cheese racing style begs for more distance. She warrants respect. Hot Ticket has been knocking on the barn door at this level. One of these days might just be today. Mike Mitchell trains Roman Chic who looked great smoking maidens at this distance. She changes surfaces and faces winners for the first time.
1. Roman Chic
2. Dyhere

RACE 8
A one mile optional claimer on the turf in a fairly wide open field.
Matto Mondo looks like the speed gunning it from the outside post. Donato claimed from Baffert and Pegram when he drop to the claiming ranks. He is talented on the turf.... do not sell short. Pleasure To Ride hot in the claiming box has both speed and tactical speed to win this race. Yolden Dan is a tough old eight year old that just wins..... might be the favorite at post time. Kettle Corn beat a good field of runners last time out. He is by Candy Ride who is a hot California sire out of the ranch in Rancho Santa Fe. I have had the opportunity to visit him.
1. Matto Mondo
2. Megastar
3. Pleasure To Ride
Longshot Kettle Corn
RACE 9
A low level 20 G sprint for maidens ends the opening day card at Santa Anita. Archie's Way trained by Dean Pederson looks very live first time out. The pedigree is bred to win early and bred for speed. I like the fast works....tab for a big dance here as Martin Garcia rides this gelding by Arch. Depth on paper looks to be one of the ones to fear. Sadler and Rosario team up. Cheers To Boogie drops and switches surfaces after a eight month lay off. He fits with these. Cut N Deal best fast race was coming off a layoff which he is doing today. I expect speed from the rail. He might outrun his odds.
1. Archie's Way
2. Depth
3. Quality Storm
Longshot look Cut N Deal
