CLOSING DAY AT DEL MAR

THE CURTAIN COMES DOWN AT DEL MAR

RACE 1

A dash for three year old fillies for the claiming price of 16 G's. Mitchell sends out Tuesdays With P who  has won at the 32 G level. She has won three out of four. Safe Word looked good winning last time. She can win this if she does not to the classic bounce. Michaulashehearlite has beat Tuesdays With P before. She looks spotted for action in this wide open filly sprint on closing day. Lake Believe has a valid race under her belt. She should get a good trip from the outside post with speed to her inside. Jade Talyor get Gryder to run this longshot for Vann Belvoir........ look fresh and dangerous.

                    1. Michaulasheheartlite
                    2. Jade Taylor

Pick 5      2,5   with  1,3,4,5 with 1,2 with 8,9 with 4,6,9
                   Cost $48.00

UPDATE  PICK FIVE RETURNED $2,437.60

RACE 2

A dash for state restricted maidens as three horses looks to try to get there diploma. Surplus trained by Sadler who was way clear of the third place horse last time out. Lord Vronsky gets off the turf after facing some tough dudes. Mitchell trains this short price contender. Sun's Out a horse I thought would win sooner. He goes from turf to poly. He adds the blinkers and moreover check out his last work out. He can be sneaky bet here with a hint of a good price. The first time starter Borealis Way looks like a runner with a win early pedigree and good looking works in tow.

            1. Surplus
            2. Sun's Out
            3. Lord Vronsky

           longshot  Borealis Way

RACE 3

A sprint on the poly track with Gavine and Rumor. Why the jockey switch on Rumor for trainer Mandella. If Givine who sswitches surfaces takes to this surface...... She can flat out take this race from Rumor and her other main rivals Miss Silver Brooke. Somme has a valid shot going from turf to dirt and from route to sprint. She looks like she can run on this surface. She might surprise all of these with a game run.

              1. Givine
              2. Rumor
              3. Somme

RACE 4

I like Time Gone By who shortens up in distance. He has faced much better company then these. This move by Mitchell is a move to try to win the trainer title. Porfido looked great winning his last race. He was very game and is on the upswing in form. Sporting Arts drops a couple of levels after being the beaten favorite last time out.

              1. Time Gone By
              2. Porfido

RACE 5

A route race at one mile for Three year olds for the price of 25 G's. Morey can flat send them out ready to win. Rhythm In May gets Bejarano......a shipper from back East. A major player. I think the Gatheratthealter trained by Pederson looks spotted to run a big race. He had to need his last start after a long long lay off. The good news is that Garcia see's fit to re-ride after a dull race. Quite A Honour is talented. He should get a good trip from off the pace. He has a good kick turning from home. Joel rides for the jockey title today. Full Deputy should move forward big time with a race under his belt.... He is a player in this wide open route race.

               1. Gatheratthealter
               2. Quite A Honour
               3. Rhytum In May

RACE 6

The Pirate Bounty Stakes sprinting on the main track with most of these horses pressing a fast pace. This is a field of dude back class old dudes who on there best day can win this race. Carbonite was 4th in the Bing Crosby. I was at the track that day when Euroears and Smiling Tiger ran in the feature race. Mensa Heat looks like he is turning into a new horse. He is talented and most importantly on the improve. He steps up in class but can win this race. Square Eddie runs fresh. He gets back to sprinting where he runs best. If fit he can win. California Solider has back class..... on his best day is a major player. Square Deal should get a perfect trip from the outside post. He is very scary stalking the speedy rabbits in this race.

             1. Mensa Heat
             2. Square Deal
             3. Conbonite

RACE 7

The pace at this distance of one mile and a eighth looks to have Roxy on the lead. No speed horse except her. She comes in fresh with weight off makes me think that if she can get a easy lead she might and I say might be hard to collar down the lane. Hard To Resist is coming back off the bench but drops in class after facing much better girls then these. Peter Eurton sends out live fresh horses at this meet to win. Glowing Spirit a three year old filly is very talented......AC has been red hot at this meet. Anniversary Girl a three year old filly should move forward after almost winning at this condition.

               1. Glowing Spirit
               2. Hard To Resist
               3. Ela Gorrie Mau

Pick Four  2,3,5,6,7 with 4,8 with 4 with 1,5,7

$15.00

RACE 8

The Del Mar Futurity Grade 1 with eight juveniles going seven furlongs. A talented field with a show down at OK Corral with Creative Cause and Majestic City.

The pace scenario looks to have both Gun Boat and Majestic City pressing the pace with Creative Cause getting the perfect trip closing at seven furlongs......Corsa Di Cavalli should be right off the pace stalking the pace setters.

Creative Cause has the perfect post position drawing the outside which gives Bejarano the perfect trip to settle early then wait and then pounce on the horses turning for home.

On paper this is how the race should be run...... but it rarely runs true to form. I expect Sheer Talent to poise a problem with this field. Drill trained by Baffert is very talented. He should love the added distance.

             1. Creative Cause/Majestic City
             2. Sheer Talent....value bet
             3. Drill....Baffert

RACE 9

Courtside has won four of eight starts and looks to be the horse to beat going six and half furlongs. He looked awesome last time gearing it down....he could have won by more. But havind said this..... this is a tough bunch of sprinters here. Chiolquin beat Cal Breds in the Real Good Deal. He comes in sharp. Mike Mitchell claimed Gallenta Mons who posted a big speed number. He comes in sharp also. It is time to get Mr Lucky K off the turf and back to what he does best........sprinting from off the pace. He needs his best race but he can win this race. He likes the poly track......and we will get a good price on him today. My main concern is he is facing older sharp horses.... gets the acid test in class'  but I still think the distance and pace sets up for a big closing kick.

This race might be the hardest race to handicap.... very wide open.

   Longshot Play   Mr. Lucky K

RACE 10

As Bing sings out the song......the closing race of the season at Del Mar.....it's time to get back to real dirt and take out the polytrack surface.....but this on the turf the curtain comes down...... see you at Fairplex on Friday...thanks for visiting my site. Swiss Charm takes on Cal Breds..........Alala might be the favorite here.

Evasive Charmer might be the speed here.... stretches out to two turns and is bred to like the turf.

             1. Evasive Charmer
             2. Swiss Charm
             3.Alala
