O'Neill expects fast start at Del Mar

In assessing his stock for the Del Mar racing season that opens Wednesday, trainer Doug O’Neill could have been talking about his barn going into last year when he won the Del Mar training title.
Last year at Del Mar, O’Neill jumped ahead in the trainer standings with eight wins from 23 starts in the first week of the meeting and never looked back. It was his fourth trainer title at Del Mar since 2004. He has 27 training titles, all in Southern California.
Now it’s Del Mar’s 2011 meeting, the seaside track’s 72nd season, and O’Neill is as excited to be back at the beach as he was after Week One last year.
