Sunday At Hollywood Park

                        HOLLYWOOD PARK

CROWN OF THORNS BY DAVID MORANT

Race 1

A maiden sprint for 75 G's is the opener on a fairly good card on Mother's Day. The pace looks to have two horses pressing the pace My Joycie and second time starter Bayona. My Joycie last workout was a bullet at five furlongs. A Salt Lake filly that will try to steal this race. Bayona claimed first time out by Mark Gatt was hammered down first time out at the windows. She will press the pace gate to wire under Joel Rosario. A Carson City filly takes a hike up in class. Judy's My Angel will be stalking the rabbits from off the pace. Rosario jumps off and P-Val rides. I think the X factor is Unbridled Thoughts who ran two respectable races at Fairplex. She has been training excellent for her comeback Today. Hello Walls drops from maiden special weight. She needs the drop. She was shuffled back in her last race after showing speed in her prior races. Brooklyn Rose might turn out to be the betting favorite. She should move forward in her third career start. The whole field looks suspect to me.  Pass on this race~~`

Race 2

The speed in this turf maiden special weight race looks to be Platinum Mine. She is coming off a lay off since last summer at this track. She is talented sprinter with the pedigree of a half sister to California Flag and Cambiocorsa. I have not seen a horse wire the field sprinting on the turf yet... and I say yet. Mizdirection is bred for the sod. She exits a race where Home Sweet Aspen won. Moreover she exits a key race where Tempation Bound and Tuesday With P the third and fourth place fillies came back and won. The filly No Mistress puts the blinkers on..... beware I like Joy Scott in this spot. If she gives her A game she will be in the mix at the wire... no throw out.

       1. Mizdirection

Race 3

A stakes race for three year olds... A salty cast of character.

1. Awesome Patriot... trained by the red-hot Bob Baffert drops out of the San Felipe where he just ran around the track... hard to gauge this colt.

2. Clarke Lane.... is the blue blood of this race. He has the look of becoming a super.... horse with a horse I think might be the dark horse in the Belmont if he runs..... love this guy after flying at the wire almost beating Uncle Sam....

3. Burns.....had tons of trouble in his last race.. He might have won the Snow Chief with a better ride then what Sutherland gave him. Reunited with Go-Go~~

4. Red Sharp Humor.....He beat the Santa Anita Derby winner Midnight Interlude in his maiden win..... He should be the speed of this race.

5. Uncle Sam.......should be pressing the pace...talented colt for Bob Baffert. He should be right behind Red Sharp Humor....

      1. Clarke Lane
      2. Uncle Sam/ Awesome Patriot
      3. Burns

Race 4

Samba School needs the drop to 25G's. She chased a fast pace then Lovetheway U Are blew by at the wire. She pace should be softer this this race. She will be the favorite. Living Our Dreams has tactical speed. She finish second at this condition her last race when she got beat by Van Brit. She is a major contender here. Gumption needs this drop in class to win. Bejarano know her well. Bellini Bliss is no win machine but at this level she warrants respect. The X factor is Attar Of Rose off since winning a 25 G calimer at Del Mar. She beat a modest field but if she is fit..... look out~` plus I like her work out tab which suggest to me that she is ready to rock and roll for Mulhall and Alsonzo.

           1. Samba School.... drops to collect
           2. Attar Of Rose.... if fit.... beware...
           3. Gumption........might be the horse to beat

Race 5

Reality Road drops to 30 G's after running against maiden speical weight company. This son of Candy Ride cuts back in distance after running on the turf. Check out the company she has ran with Temp and El Vino and Preamble all solid talented horses. Coal Region Kid has the blue blood pedigree to be a instant contender getting his diploma. He has the look of coming out firing against this field with the leading rider taking the call. He drops to collect and warants big time consideration here. Husky Glory should move forward. As for first time starters Johardy trained by Neil French has Joe Steiner taking the call.  Preferred Mandate has run races that puts him in the mix.  A player at double digit odds that I have thought would have broke his maiden long ago. Johardy a son of Gone West with long fast six furlong workouts. He looks live first time out on the outside.

       1. Johardy..... son of Gone West
       2. Doughboy.... trainers has him ready

Race 6

The pace looks to be Jax El with Bella Swan stalking the pace. Startjumpin Marnie was third in a non winner of three. She drops to this condition of non winner of to for the claiming price of 62 G's. She should be stalking the pace. She warrants respect for a win. I like Jet Blue Girl who beat Tiz A Bud and Lea The Punisher two races back at Hollywood this Dec. Both of these horse came back and won.... She cuts back in distance after running in the Sunshine Million. Beware with Bejarano stalking the pace turning for home she flat out can win this race. The X factor is Megaspiel who has turned the corner. She is a talented filly. She shortens up in distance where she can stalk the pace. If Jax El and Bella Swan melt down in the lane she has the turn of foot to win this race. A live wide open race and it will be fun to watch and bet.

          1. Jet Blue Girl...... talented girl
          2. Startjumpin Marnie.....consistent winner
          3. Bella Swan.....classy import
         4. Magaspiel....beware if speed melts-down

Beware if no one goes with Jax El  he can win

Race 7

A bottom level sprint race with Mike Mitchell dropping Fairway Road who won for 16G's at Santa Anita and drops her to this level. If it was'nt Mike Mitchell I would take a stand against this move. He does this trick and hits at a high percentage. Come Catch her is the name of this tune. Cato Major will stalk Fairway Road. If she melts down then I expect Cato Major to take over the lead. Moon Stone Madness has speed and might be right behind Fairway stalking the pace. She has speed and tactical speed to make her a instant contender for trainer Jay Robbins. P-Val is a plus.

          1. Fairway Road
          2. Cato Major

Race 8

Compari after sprinting down the hill looks like the controlling speed at this one mile turf distance. He is a black dot graded stakes winner. He should love this distance. The horse to beat bar none. Coffee Boy has the perfect turn of foot to give a scare into Compari. A improving colt by Cherokee Run should love the added distance. Miller and Rosario are a deadly trainer and jockey combo. I like him. Red Sun was coming into his own before he was side-lined. He is a top turf miler before he wheels came off. He has the speed numbers will the back class to win this for Harris and Carla Gaines. Her main man Bejarano know him well.....beware! The X factor is Smokey Lonesome who is fit and improving in two excellent turf sprints. He has gone long before. The pace sets up for his runnin style.

           1. Compari....
           2. Red Sun...top turf miler
           3. Smokey Lonesome...sets up for him

Race 9

The night cap is the bomb with many pretenders and I expect few contenders. The field looks suspect... be warned~~

               1.  Low Power Gear  MM
