Monday Hollywood Park

                                  MEMORIAL DAY
COZI ROSIE BY MORANT

MALIBU PIER BY DAVID MORANT

RACE 1

A very short field on turf for the claiming price of 50 G's.
The pace looks void of any sprinter speed. The field needs pace to run at. Farley Star is seeking the hat trick. She might press the pace here. She steps up in company to meet this field of runners. Wake Me Now won two races back with $40K claimers. She fits here and warrants respect. Startjumpin Marnie has faced better but was in form last winter at Santa Anita. Her form look dull last time out but JR climbs aboard for the hot and winning connections of Hollendorfer and Rosario.

             1. Farley Star
             2. Startjumpin Marnie
             3. Wake Me Now

RACE 2

A number of maiden special weight droppers sign up for this maiden 50 G race. Private Bounty exits the hot fast race in which Alcindor smoked the field. He beat Chapman's Peak two races back. I expect Ron Ellis will have this dude cranked up for a big race. The speed might be Screaming Destiny after pressing the fast pace last time finishing a good-looking comeback race. He should be tighter this time around. Meadow Road has talent with tactical speed to put him over the top. He drops to collect. Quinton's Destiny is the surprise package. I like here.

                1.  Private Bounty
                2.  Meadows Creek
                3.  Quintons Destiny
                4.  Screaming Destiny

RACE 3

Mike M. has two horses in this race that look spotted for action. Queen Mariles and the horse that I like Desert Flight. Cato Major takes a class hike. A player. Warren's Swap Fox gets the rail. She is coming back from a seven month lay-off. O'Neil has put eight long works in her.  Frequent Fame gets off the turf. It's about time. He loves the cushion track as he has won four times at Hollywood. He beat Jax El in his first race after a lay-off. Do not sell her short.

                 1. Frequent Fame...... talented
                 2. Desert Flight.....back class
                 3. Cato Major.....hike in class
                 4. Warren's Swap Fox....scary if fit....

RACE 4

A N1X turf route race fits this bill in the fourth race. Cloud Man had trouble in his last race.  He was pinned down on the rail and did not find room to make his move. Great Warrior exits the same race and finish ahead of Cloud Man. Great Warrior is very scary at this level. He has hit the board in four of his turf races.

There are seven starters in this race and every horse has a look to be contenders...... except maybe Cat In The Forest who looks over his head here.  A great betting race to bet and watch.

Nahem looks great winning on  the Snowchief on Gold Rush Days. Burns might be a cut below the top picks. But having said this if given the right pace scenario he looms large but needs his best to win.

Boxeur Des Rues a import usually need some time to get use to the change in attitude. He drops from stakes races as this three year old colt from Smart Strike has a look of a upsetter here.... JR stays with this dude......

              1. Great Warrior.....hits hard  here
              2. Cloud Man....troubled trip last time out
              3. Boxeur Des Rues....interesting import with JR
              4. Smug.....do not sell short here

RACE 5

              1. Chi Cha Cha
              2. Princethefifth
              3.  Our Senior Moments

RACE 6

This first level starter allowance is a tough cast of mostly three year olds except Big Burly Boy and Macy's Wood which are older. The last time we saw Big Burly Boy was last year at Hollywood smoking a state bred 40 G maidens. He does like this surface. Neil French has put some fast works for his comeback today. Marcy's Woods adds the blinkers. She press a fast pace getting second off a lay-off. I expect she will be more tuned in for her second race here. Requisition has been knocking at this door. He has hit the board in all of his three starts at this level. Dime had a trouble start at this very level last time out. He fits in this wide open starter allowance. Tales Of Tigger looked good first time out beating open company maidens for 40 G's. He has been given two months off. Mike Puype has strung together some fast long works which I like to see. He has him cranked up to fire his best. The X factor is Ron's horse on the rail Run Candy Run. He exits a maiden race where two horses have come out of his maiden race and won. Do not sell this dude short here. He will be flying late at the wire.

               1. Big Burly Boy.....likes the wood....
               2. Requisition....knockin at this door....
               3. Tales Of Tigger...... good debut......
               4. Run Candy Run.......surprise package...

RACE 7

This is a modest field of fillies trying to get there dipolma on turf at one mile. No scary monsters here except maybe Artuya and Candy's Girl. The speed might be Candy's Girl and Artuya a daughter of Giant's Causeway will stalk the pace then make her move down the lane. Artuya exits the highly regarded race with American Lady and Orientatious. On Paper that is the pace scenario..... but as we know this is rarely the case. Sea Song Grace trained by Bob Baffert switches to the turf. She is bred for the turf. Proctor sends out Blue Grass Music owned and bred by Glen Hill Farms. She comes in fresh for this race.

             1. Artuya
             2. Candy's Girl
             3. Blue Grass Music

Late Pick Four

    5,8 with 1,5,7 with 2,4,5,7 with 5,7  cost $24

RACE 8            Los Angeles Grade 3 Handicap

This race has the top California sprinters with Amazombie and Cost Of Freedom with M One Rifle dualing for the top prize. Amazombie the five year old gelding has improved as the top sprinter in So. Cal. He has tactical speed to clear from the rail. He will track the pace with looks to be Cost Of Freedom then reel him in. First the speed is Cost Of Freedom who is coming off a slight lay-off for trainer John Sadler. This eight year old is one tough dude on the front end. He loves this cushion track where he is a monster in the past. His last race was shorter then this six panel race. He should love the added distance. Remember he did win this race last year.

Gato Go Win is a horse on my watch list. He loves this track. He gets the acid test on class but if he runs his race he is a player closing from off the pace. Do not sell him short here.

M One Rifle beat Cost Of Freedom last time out at a shorter distance. He does have a scary blow out bullet on May 25th to make him a scary speed horse.

If the speed melts down and Amazombie has trouble clearing from the rail then looks to Gato Go Win..... that's still asking for many unknowns elements in this top graded sprint race.

              1. Amazombie.....deserves top billing....
              2. Gato Go Win..... outruns the odds......
              3. Cost Of Freedom..... Top Cal sprinter last year

RACE 9                GAMELY STAKES

1. Eclair De Lune.....She had a ton of trouble in the Santa Ana Stakes where Malibu Pier won the race. She walked out of the gate then was steadled down the back-stretch. She was only beaten by two and three-quarters lengths by Malibu. She has tactical speed. She has never ran over this turf course. Take note she ran a winning race with Tuscan Evening last year. She needs to get out of the gate with no problems with this field. Beware she has won the Beverly D Stakes Grade 1 at Arlington last year. If she repeats that race look out girls~~``

2. Cozi Rosie......This four year old filly is one classy filly. Four wins out of 10 starts with 2 seconds and a third. She is facing Malibu Pier for the third time. She beat her in February in the Buena Vista. As John Sadler said "This is a match race." Of course he is going to say that but there is a number of fillies and mares in this race that can step up and win. But she is one classy talented filly that will have a bulls-eye on Malibu Pier's back. She can turn the table and win this if she gets a fairly fast pace to run at. She is the fresh filly in this group. She does not need a fast pace to settle her down where she can explode turning for home.

3. Turning Top.........One thing that this mare loves is the Hollywood turf where she has three wins and one second and a third.

4.  Dubawi Heights.......She has never run this far before. She does have the pedigree for longer distance. She is seeking her fourth straight victory. Beware she does get the acid test in class but JR stays with her. Take note her last race she finish full of run. She looked like she could go around again.

5. Madera Castana......might be the longest shot on the board today. Take note she won a Grade 1 race in Brazil last year. This four year old filly flew by the wire in her last race collaring Jax El getting up for second. She has the perfect turn of foot at this distance to make her a player as well. Do not take her so lightly.

6. Restless Soul....... She was third in the Santa Barbara H. She set a slow pace last time out then got collared by Cozi Rosie and of course Malibu Pier.

7. Malibu Pier......likely the favorite at post time. She has more tactical speed then Rosie. She can make the lead or wait and stalk the pace then she has displayed her killer turn of foot in her last two starts. I was almost giving up on her but she fooled me and improved big time this year......A scary filly down the lane. A mile and a quarter was no problem .......she cuts back in distance here....look out.

8. Celtic Princess..... looks like the speed pressing the pace today.

                 1. Cozi Rosie.... classy talented filly.....
                 2. Malibu Pier......improved a ton....
                 3. Dubawi Heights....full of run last time out....
                 4. Madera Castana....surprise package.....
                 5. Eclair De Lune.... She has won Grade 1.....

RACE 10

Maybe Clocker Moment has finally found a group of plodders that he can beat. A modest group of low rent plodders fits this last race on Memorial Day. He cuts back to seven panels which should help his plodding closing style. Quietly Waiting a veteran with the same style has the numbers to warrant consideration for a win. Three lengths back in that race Expensive Pens ran a respectable debut..... He should move foward with a race under his belt. Shift Four a first time starter has excellent pedigree a colt by Vindication............ He shows up slumming at the low rent district. His works are slow but the trainers Peter Eurton works them slow........ beware of this dude in the nightcap.

                1. Clocker Moment
                2. Quietly Waiting
                3. Shift Four
