Belmont Stakes Secretariat in 1973
On June 9, 1973 Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes by thirty-one lengths, in a record time of 2:24, becoming a Triple Crown Champion. Big Red's record still stands as the fastest time for the Belmont Stakes.
The Belmont Stakes a grade 1 is held on the first Saturday that falls on or after June 5th at Belmont Park in Elmont,New York. The Belmont Stakes is called the "The Test Of Champions" or the "Run for the Carnations". The race is a one mile and half test for three years old, the last leg of the Triple Crown.
