        SANTA ANITA PARK CLOSING WEEK

SEPARATE FOREST BY MORANT

The closing week for the 2011 winter season at Santa Anita Park.
Start the final bank this week at $250.00. Four days at Santa Anita.

Race 1

Springtime is here and the baby races start at the distance of two furlongs for 2 year old fillies and colts. A $100,000 maiden claimer. Fun to watch...... and I rarely bet except when I see something I like during pre-race warm up. The line up:

1. Miss Fitzy gets Martin Pedroza to ride. She has solid workouts at Fairplex. The daughter of Seattle Fitz.

2. Son De America is the daughter of Discreet Cat. She has good 2 furlong workout on March 30th. I like this daughter of The Cat..... I expect she might out-run her odds. A good post position.

3. Linda T Rules a first time starter is the daughter of Tribal Rule....... 2 wins from 2 starts.

4. Always The Same is son of Grand Slam. Jerry Fanning trains and Santiago rides.

5. Super Candy ...... the son of Candy Ride...... great win early pedigree.... a series of bullets workouts for his debut.

7. Real Dream.... a daughter of Cat Dreams and the sire of Caracortado.... check out this live baby and her odds at the tote board. She just might be a runner!

8. Joca Queen the daughter of Awesome Gambler.... gets the great gate jockey P-Val.

9. Compass Rock the son of Orientate........... Eclipse Award Winner and has made a ton of money... might just be a live runner on the outside.

10. Nolaruninfor Jayci..... the son Formal Gold...... I like his dad very much......

  1. Son De America  2. Super Candy  3. Joca Queen

   Compass Rock great pedigree....looks live!

Race 2

A quick sprint for fillies and mares for the claiming price of $32K kicks off the second race. Most of this field are one dimensational speed types except the outside mare Part Time Luck with Bejarano re-riding her. Onefunsonofagun draws the rail for Doug O'Neil. Patrick Valenzuela rides her. She will be tighter this time around after her debut coming off a lay-off. Ultra Awesome looked good at the wire then got nailed by River Glow at the $20K claiming level. She was claimed by Carl Callaghan who steps her up in class one level. A Player! The pace scenario has Midnight Rage on the lead. She is the speed. She might hold her speed better this time around. All The Love has tactical speed sitting right behind Rage to pounce if Midnight Rage backs up. All The Love is seeking her third straight win. Part Time Luck switches back to the main track after facing much better company in her last race. She is the one to beat with a fast hot pace scenario up front at the quarter and half mile pole.

    1. Part Time Luck  2. All The Love  3.Onefunsonofagun

Race 3

1. Golden Augusto switches to the dirt coupled with the move down in class. He lite up the tote board on February 27th at odds of 64 to one.

2. Boston Bake Bean another longshot......... no win machine with this one. One of theses days but not today! Funny thing is that I like this guy last summer at Fairplex...... and once again I was disappointed with BBB. Someday he might wake up on the track.

3. Sky Thrill has speed..... which is a good thing..... He moves up to the $10K level..... Not Thrilled about this one to win but in this short field a major contender with a hint of a price.

5. Mr. Saturdaynight won at this track on Feb. 11th where Manogold was third. A major player. He is trained by Mike Puype who has been hot this year at Santa Anita.

6. Manogold has hit the board in 8 out of his last 10 starts.... merits respect with his main rival Mr. Saturdaynight.

   1. Mr. Saturdaynight  2. Sky Thrill  3. Manogold

Race 4

Get Funky is the class of this race. He just might have another win in the tank.... a one time stakes winner on turf. Trumpet Player Jay was a big disappointment last couple of races. He was claimed by Mark Glatt for $16K . He has never won on turf. He is game and earns big speed numbers but he needs more turn of foot turning for home. Leandros gets Bejarano to ride....He is trained by Mike Puype.......so beware! Image And Likeness might be the lone longshot in this field.

    1. Leandros   2. Get Funky  3. Trumpet Player Jay

Image and Likeness.... a longshot play!

Pick Three

4th   1,4,5,6,7
5th     ALL
6th        3      Cost $30.00

Race 5

A seven furlong maiden claimer for $30K. Trastevere trained by Mike Puype looks short in his first race with Gomez in the irons. Joe Talamo climbs aboard. He should be tighter at this longer distance from off the pace. This race lacks speed except Express Train and I expect Free From My Ex will be sent to the front end with David Flores in the irons. Dan Hendrick's trains My Ex who usually show there best race second time out. A Candy Ride gelding with a bullet work out on April 2 indicates to me that he should be very live! Depth adds the blinkers for trainer John Sadler. He should move forward after a respectable third at this level. Deluxe Bus drops in class........ check out his last series of workouts..... tab for a major improvment at seven furlongs today! This one looks live.

  1. Deluxe Bus 2.Free From My Ex 3.Trastevere/Depth

Race 6

A down the hill maiden turf race has Ringmistress who closed to second in her debut looks to be the one to fear. She was hammered down by the bettors in her first start. She is bred to win early with top to bottom turf pedigree. Duda Ten cuts back in distance after a somewhat trouble start in her last race. She should be respected! The speed is Candy's Girl who pressed a fast pace in her debut stateside down the hill. This was her first start after a five month lay off. She can win if left unchecked on the front-end. I like the first time starter Auspiciously by A.P. Indy with the dam Ivory Mint who has two winners form three starters. Swiss Beauty a five year old mare has had her problems. But having said this ....she sure is coming back from last summer training up a storm. She has drilled some fast long works... I will try to beat her but I would not be surprise if she beat me today. Highly Composed is a better sprinter then router. James Cassidy has freshen up her for two months. She should move forward at this distance. She will be my bet over Duda Ten,Candy's Girl and Ringmistress.

    1. Highly Composed  2.Duda Ten/Candy's Girl/ Ringmistress

Swiss Beauty training up a storm!

Race 7

A short field but a contentious route race. In other words, each horse in this field has a look for a win. Lucky Primo ran like a horse that needed a race. He pressed the pace and should benefit with a race under his belt. Uh Oh Bango exits the same race as Lucky Primo and Bango beat him. Lucky will be much tighter this time around. Preamble is fit and in form... the son of Mr. Greenley is going for the hat trick........ do not sell short this guy for the win. Advice finished a respectable second up north. Remember this guy is a stakes winner in the Lexington at Keeneland in 09. He ran 13th in the Kentucky Derby.

    1. Uh Oh Bango   2. Lucky Primo  3. Preamble/Advice

Race 8

The night cap is a route race for fillies and mares of non winners of two! The pace looks to have a race void of any early speed except Mystery Bird and Fire And Spice on the front end. Fire And Spice switches surface and goes long today. Social Event claimed by Jack Carava three races back tries something new for her. She goes long after sprinting with much better horses then this group. The horse to fear is A.C.'s filly Imperatriz with Berrio the main man for this stable is going long after sprinting at a higher claiming level.

   1. Imperatriz  2. Social Event  3. Mystery Bird
