CLOSING DAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
Race 1
A down the hill turf sprint for the claiming price of $25K is the first race on closing day. The pace looks to have Caught A Flyer with Exclamation sprinting out on the lead. Lease Of Life trained by Peter Milller warrants respect after winning a route turf claiming race at his level on Feb. 25th. Achak cuts back in distance while he moves down in class. A major player. Exclamation won at this distance then ran a dull race on dirt. He gets back to the turf where he belongs today! Richard Mandella sends out One Union a eight year old with back class and double drops in class in this wide open tricky turf course claimer.
1. Achak 2. Lease Of Life 3. Gallenta Monstro
Double drop in class One Union
Race 2
A one mile turf route claimer for the price of $25K fits the bill. Hameildaeme gets P-Val for James Lloyd which looked good beating Rollerskates and Rule The Storm on March 3rd. A major player. Prytania trained by John Sadler was fourth behind the favorite Hameildaeme on March 26th at the claiming price of $40K. Both horses drop in class today. I expect Bella Rosa to run a big race in this second race. She has the tactical speed to sit close to the pace then close with a winning turn of foot at the wire.
1. Bella Rosa 2. Hameildaeme 3. Prytania
Race 3
A blue blood maiden sprint race for three year olds includes:
1. Clinton a son of Fusaichi Pegasus a Kentucky Derby winner debuts with solid works for Janet Armstrong who lures Bejarano to ride.
2. Jack Reacher gets P-Val to ride after showing good early zip. He cuts back in distance. He hikes up to open company after three races with state bred.
3. Dubber was well bet in his debut on March 5th. A son of With Distinction should move forward with a race under his belt. Beware of this dude.
4. Tokubetsu might be his day today for a diploma. He ran in two buzz saws.......... Midnight Interlude and Dominus...! The horse to beat!
5. Meadow Road exits a highly regarded maiden race on March 19th where two horses came out of that race and won. He is a strong contender who adds the blinkers for the first time. He has a good turn of foot.
6. Cornpiper a son of a win early sire Indian Charlie. He has the look of a strong contender first time out for Steve Asmussen who has had some live first time maidens in his barn.
7. Lord Vronsky has some solid works at Hollywood Park for Art Sherman. Check out his last workout... a bullet going long which I like to see. A live one that will be over-looked by the public.
1. Tokubetsu 2. Meadow Road 3. Cornpiper
Race 4
Cool another turf race a starter allowance race! Jeffrey's Groove will show speed. He is seeking his proper level.... not a throw-out. Blingboy should move forward with a race under his belt. He is bred for the turf. I expect that he should relish this surface and distance. A major player that will likely be a live longshot. Big Bad Boo maybe but I like other. Caffeine High the likely favorite after his good looking win on dirt on March 17th. He is bred for the turf and this is his first race on turf. A old adage is that never bet a big time favorite when he is doing something different for the every first time. Requisition looks ready for action after defeating Gnarly Dude and Courtside on March 25th. He also is making his turf debut. Do not take lightly this dude. Uncle Grey warrants respect at this level. He has been freshen up for this and if he is fit he is a instant contender. Palio Prince switches to the turf. He is a longshot with fast workouts in tow.... beware!
1. Blingboy 2. Uncle Greg 3. Cafferine High
Palio Prince longshot
Race 5
The bottom level maiden race for the price of $20K. Cabo San Lucas might have found a field he can beat! He will be out on the lead winging with Patrick taking the call. Greenspan has not been seen since last summer at Del Mar. He takes a big drop in class after showing godd early zip. Smokin Bomb ran a respectable race facing both next out winners Breakmark and Papa Terry. That was his first race since 09. He should move forward big-time! Nisus is a solid contender....... He is fit and in form and the same can be said about Gifted Student. Naturaliste was hammered down by the public and do not take lightly ........... after showing early speed. He looks spotted to run a big race from the outside post.
1. Cabo San Lucas 2. Naturaliste 3. Smokin B
Race 6
A one mile turf claiming maiden race fits this bill. Rightful Image ran 4th at this very distance on turf. He should hit the board with a little racing luck. Seeking Solace respect his turf pedigree after finishing fourth. Remember that he was claimed by Ron Ellis who know a thing ot two about horses. One Nation the class dropper with speed trained by Richard Mandella. A major player! Magic Beam debute on dirt then moved forward big time on turf finishing third. I expect major improvement. Reality Ride a son of Candy Ride is the scary dude in this race. This is his turf debut today. Smokey Wonder makes his turf debut....bred for turf by Siberian Simmer. Carlsbad Lagoon is my longshot pick with Swoon's Tune. Lagoon is a son of Unusal Heat who sends out win early turf horses. Swoon's Toon was last seen at Del Mar. He has been traing solid for Gary Mandella and gets Blanc to ride on the turf. A Player as well! Denny The Great adds blinkers and adds turf with distance.
1. Reality Ride 2. Seeking Solace 3. One Nation
Denny The Great live longshot look!
Race 7
Onebadboy a first time starter has fast works in the tank. A son of ONebadshark a stakes winner. Sainte Houston a first time starter is bred by the speedy Houston a win early type. Hurricane Harbor a son of Rockport Harbor had a somewhat troubled trip at Fairplex. I pick this dude last summer. Do not take lightly with double digit odds. Fine And Rare looks spotted for action. A head case! Detective Poirot a first time starter for David Hoffman....... with P-Val who looks very live first time out. Nuclear Missile drops today for the money run. The lat time I saw Faithful Secret was at Del Mar. He has been working solid for his comebacker today! A Player.
1. Detective Poirot 2. Hurricane Harbor 3. Fine and Rare
Race 8
A very wide open affair..... tough race bar none. El Vino the stable-mate of Zenyatta is a Silky Sullivan with a special turn of late foot. El Vino is facing winners for the first time.. with talent.... do not take lightly! Honour Family ran behind Sensational News on the dirt March 26th. He gets back to the turf where he has won before. Patriotic Solider was last seen at Del Mar..... a lightly race horse with sharp drills. Sensational News has beaten four of his rivals on dirt March 26th. This is his first time on turf at a short price. Vaudell has to need his prep on dirt....... I expect a big time performance today at this distance on turf. Distant Sky was game on March 4th when he beat Back At You and Tamarack Smarty..... adds to the mix with back class.. a major player! Tamarack Smarty should move forward off hs last race if he does not bounce. A contender here. Sammaartino trained by Bill Spawr is kin to grade 1 winner Bordonaro........ do not take lightly for a win here. Warning Song had to need his dirt race to get him much more tighter and fitter in this turf race. He won twice on turf over on the pond. Brace Yourself rounds out the contenders.
Race 9
Belo Purse won for $8K at this track. He is on the short list of contenders. He steps up in class or Jack Carava...... a positive signal all systems are a go. But Take A Hard Look could prove to be a tough dude ..... He drops to collect after runnng on the turf. Mark Of A Warrior has won three straight races before running a dull fifth place finish on March 19th. Look who climbs aboard P-Val who is having a solid meet at Santa Anita. Street Of Heaven has a fast blazing workout... so beware...... Concerto's Thunder has a good turn of foot turnin for home. I expect Brady's Blue Eyes with a fast track and class relief will be spotted to run a smasher. Watch out! Stand Tall by trainer Michael M is a horse I have bet in the pass...... not out of the realm of weirdness to like this dude... Stand Tall a live longshot.
1. Belo Purse 2. Mark Of A Warrior 3. Stand Tall
Street Of Heaven looks live!
Race 10
A great way to end this meet with a distance of one mile and three fourths on turf............ Good Luck today and I will see you at Hollywood.........
1. Quindici Man gets back to turf after finishing third in the Santa Anita Deby behind Game On Dude........ look he almost won. he is fit and if not too much was taken way from him he is a major player. No monsters in this race and he has won on turf before. You will get a good price.
2. Haimish Hy is a grade 1 winner on turf. He is back on the surface that he is best one.
3. Dahound....... I like the way he won on turf on March 3rd. then on dirt was beaten by Junipter Pass. He is talented and do not take this one lightly..... can get the distance.
4. Power Series trained by Mike Mitchell. He is fast and might get out there on a easy lead today. He had to need his last race. I expect he should move forward big time.
5. Interpation has the look of a outsider and off his game. He has a big losing streak going for him. Minor award!
6. Imponente Purse ran behind both Dahound and Juniper Pass. He needs to step up big time to win this.
7. Romp....... was disappointed in him last race......Pass!
8. Celtic New Year is fit and in form after a awesome looking victory. He gets the acid test in class...... but beware I really like this guy.
9. Falcon Rock.... thought he was going to hit the ground running but did not! He switches surface back to the turf which makes this guy a live longshot to win!
10.
Juniper Pass is he scary horse on the outiside post. He won a grade two race on dirt while smoking five of today's rivals. He almost won the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on turf. The one to beat.
1. Junipter Pass 2. Dahound 3. Haimish Hy
Falcon Rock longshot!
