SUNDAY SANTA ANITA PARK

          SANTA ANITA GREAT RACING PLACE

CROWN OF THORNS BY DAVID MORANT

Race 1

Subtle Greek the beaten favorite her last race showed speed gate to wire getting beaten at the wire. She enters this modest group of maiden going the same distance in the same condition. Warren's Hopeful shortens up in distance if the first time starter's fail to fire then she looks like the first one to reel in Subtle Greek. The first time starters look average except the End Sweep filly Tocoi Miss.

    1. Subtle Greek  2. Tocoi Miss  3. Warren's Hopeful

Race 2

I like Gallant Gent who is seeking his second straight victories. He switches surfaces and bred to run all day long. The distance should be no problem. Skellytown is the horse to beat at this distance and at this surface.

Race 3

Papa Terry looked good beating up a average field of maidens. He should love the distance. He is facing winners for the first time. Bejarano stays with this dude. Scored trained by Bruce Headley ran second at this very condition. He was off slow and never got to the winner. He needed that race and I expect this time around he will have more speed and a good turn of foot at the wire. I like Carnivore who drops in class and shortens up in distance. Check out his last workout indicates his readiness. He might offer some value because of the jockey. Obesss is a rabbit at has gas and will be sent to the lead. P-Val jumps off after many tries indicates to me what he thinks about his chances.

   1. Carnivore   2. Papa Terry   3. Scored

Race 4

Lady Alex looked awesome smoking a field of $20K claimers. She switches to the turf where she has won two times. She is the horse to fear here. Bellini Bliss I think was on the vet list. I expect Siberian Heart to go with Lady Alex battling for the contested lead. If this is the pace senario then Dave's Revenge starts to look very good to me in this spot. She had to need her last race coming off such a long lay off. Hess works his horses slow so no concern with the workouts.

     1. Lady Alex   2. Dave's Revenge   3. Siberian Heart

Race 5

Wholelotsacongrats has gas but gets the rail for Sadler who hangs a for sale sign around his neck. He might get caught up in a speed dual with El Gaucho. El Gaucho has nice two year old speed number. Dancing At Dark trained by Sadler looked good at Hollywood Park then tailed off his last two starts. He has been given some time off....A Contender! Edgewick Road moves up in class for Harrington. Joe Rosario will try to close with this dude turning for home. A Player in a wide open affair. Ominous Thomas exits a $25K claimer where he pressed the pace and looked game getting third. He has two works in him after his March third start. A Major contender! Classy Lion pressed the pace from the rail. He goes from inside to outside. He faces winners but exits a highly regarded maiden race. Call Me Later ran into Runaway Wildcat his last race. Runaway Wildcat might be the favorite in this race. Tonzatrouble steps up in class seeking his second straight win.

   1. Runaway Wildcat

Race 6
A Great betting race with a full field on three year old fillies sprinting on the main track. Screaming Regal has the racing experience if one of thoses blue blood first time starters need a race under there belt. Swiss Charm was not going to beat Piny River. She should relish the added distance. My Brite Caroline by High Brite rates well with this group. Cokecherrymary I have always like the pedigree by Summer Squall and Gilded Time.

     1. Screaming Regal  2. Swiss Charm  3. Cokecherrymary

Pick Four

6th          5
7th        1,3,5
8th    1,2,7,10
9th        5,8

UPDATE PICK FOUR PAID  $177.75

Race 7

Great race to watch and bet with a number of talented stars on there way up the class ladder. Wilburn trained by Asmussen and owned by Jess Jackson might exit the best looking maiden race of the meet. He is a big looking three year old colt. Uncle Sam trained by Bob Baffert exits the Grade 3 Sham. He shortens up to a mile coupled with a drop in class makes him a major contender. Special Kid has the look of a colt ready to close on the speed turning for home. He almost beat Fusa Code at Sunland his last race. Do not take this colt lightly! As of this meet anything Joel Rosario rides you might want to take a long look at. He rides a 20 to 1 morning line colt Clarke Lane. He is the X Factor and tab for later on the turf.

     1. Wilburn    2. Special Kid   3. Uncle Sam

Race 8          Six And Half Grade 2 Stakes

                       POTRERO GRANDE

1. Atta Boy Roy

He gets the rail with other speed horse to his outside. The last time we saw him was in the Van..... driving off after the Breeder's Cup Sprint. I always like this Northwest horse. Check out thoses works......... super fast.... He looks to wire this field but I wish he was on the outside post and not on the rail getting shuffled back gunning it to the lead. The extra half furlong is my main concern.

2. Amazombie

He is better on this surface.... He might be the best he has been concerning form and fittness. If he repeats his Sunshine Million race he will be one tough customer.

3. Chocolate Candy

The best thing I can say about him is the he is a blue blood by Candy Ride. Minor Award if any!

4. Don Tito

Look who shows up to ride this mid-pack closer... Joel Rosario. He is a talented colt that is still learning his game. He looks in over his head but a number of these horses are coming back from a long lay off with problems of health and fitness.... If you want to take a flyer bet this closer... and pray!

5. Captain Cherokee

He almost beat Smiling Tiger going seven panels. He shortens up in distance. He has tactical speed but others look better to me. A player and will be overbet in this spot.

6. M One Rifle
He is coming back for a vacation since last summer. He has speed. He might try to go all the way. This race has a number of rabbits shooting to the front-end. I love his workout tab.... He looks ready to rock and roll.

7. Crown Of Thorns

The favorite of this race. He has had more problems then Carter has Pills......... health problems...... with his knees. He has been training good as I have read in the DRF. Mandella like him today. The last time he was at this level of company he won......The horse to beat!!

8. Colgan's Chip
Pass with this guy but he might be getting a little long in the tooth. At one time he did shine..... brightly!

9. Ventana

A horse that I have alway like...... one his best day can win this race.  He has been training up a small storm........... He has the right style and a fast turn of foot when fit. Beware! OH ...by the way he is the defending champion.

10. Bet On Victor

A interesting live longshot that gets the cosy post position with P-Val taking the call for Cerin. Lot's to like!

    1. Crown Of Thorns   2. Amazombie  3.Bet On Victory

Atta Boy Roy  love him but wish he drew a better post!

Race 9

Silver Luna claimed out of her race routing for Steve Knapp. He is a better trainer with sprinters and gets P-Val who has been red hot. Whiskers And Rye exits the same race as Silver Luna. She needs to improve some to get to Luna. Good sigh is Bejarano sticks with her. The maiden special weight droppers is the scary new face with this group. Nice Medel takes off the blinkers and Joel Rosario rides.

     1. Nice Medel   2. Warren's Ruhlara

$20 Win And Place On Nice Medel
