COZI ROSIE BY DAVID MORANT |
Race 1
The opener the tricky down the hill turf course for a claiming price of $40K. The line up includes:
1. El Scorpio... Hector Palma claimed this dude for $32K his last race on dirt. He has speed and should press the pace throughout this race. He finished second on March 23rd running on dirt. He is switching surface and look at this level this guy is a major player! Trainer is hitting at 32% first off the claim.
2. Quietly Mine has a good turn of foot for trainer Jack Carava. This seven year old drops in class coupled with the fact that he has been freshen up for this race. Beware!
3. Big Bad Leroybrown......... always like this dude. He won his last race at Hollywood on the synthetic surfaces for a claiming price of $32K. He moves to the turf for Warren who hits at a high percentage of 50%....... He has a killer turn of foot when fit and ready. Check out his March workouts.....
4. Cherokee Heaven warrants a long look of a major contender. He is trained by Marty Jones with Bejarano riding him. He might be the favorite at post time.
5. Dance With Gamble at this level has both tactical and pure speed in make him a contender in this wide open turf race. He finished second on Feb 21st at this very level. Good solid work out tab!
6. Fandino won on April 11 and wheeled back five days. He takes a class hike..... A four year old gelding racing with older horses.
7. Muny trained by Mike Mitchell and cuts back in distance from a route to a sprint. He switches back to the turf. A Player! A lightly raced six year old with back-class after races in graded stakes races in 09 and in 08. He has been freshen up and might prove to be the horse to fear if fit and ready to rumble.
Race 2
A sprint for three year olds at the condition of non winners of two. Stray Cat defeated Clue Me In on March 25th. He has gas and will be sent to the lead for trainer Ugo De La Torre.... a new face. It's Superman was not beaten by much against his rival on March 24 behind Stray Cat. A double digit player! Smokenomore has not been seen since the days of Fairplex. He has not won since Nixon was president but this field lacks any solid horses. Bejarano rides the a major plus for Bill Spawr who is heating up this year at Santa Anita. Stu's Gone Wild won at first asking at Golden Gate. He is seeking his proper level to get a win. Quintons Flash needs class relief after showing nothing at a higher claiming level. He should move forward at this level. As I have mention above Clue Me In is a contender in this Ho Hum race.... Pass!
Race 3
The Grade three Stakes race on turf. The line up includes:
1. Supreme Summit who adds the blinkers for Mike Puype. This dude ran fourth in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint. I will throw out his wet track race on Feb. 19th. He switches to the first time turf. He is bred for turf and I expect a big performance.
2. Camp Victory... Like this guy having won two straight races for trainer Mike Mitchell. He is fit and sharp and in form with Joe Talamo riding in the irons Today. He gets the acid test on class with this field.
3. Regally Ready.... anyone who has seen this horse should have been impressed. He is trained by Steve Asmussen and switches jockeys to Mike Smith. The horse to beat!
4. Gallant Son a stone cold closer............gets Victor after Smith climbs aboard the favorite.
5. Victory Pete longest shot on the board. He has been training up a storm since we have not seen him since last summer at Hollywood. He has run with some of the best turf horses on the west coast. A route to sprint play?
6. Compari if fit and ready is four for four on this turf course and five win out of six starts on the turf. Beware! This dude can win! He warrants respect here!
1. Regally Ready
Race 4
A maiden blue blood sprint for three year old fillies to the name of this tune. Free Range finished fourth on dirt last winter at Hollywood. Her dad is Dixie Union a Grade 1 winner on dirt... so look out! Artuya trained by Baffert gets Smith as Martin goes East to ride the Factor. She ran into a buzz saw after pressing a fast pace with Mildly Offensive. A Major Player! American Lady a first time starter with the morning line 5 to 2 debuts with ultra fast works in the morning time. She is a blue-blood daughter of Stormy Atlantic and is related to The Pamplemousse a graded stakes winner. Memoires a first time starter a daughter of Grade winner Empire Maker. Somenchantd Evenin a first time starter. Distorsionada the daughter of Distorted Humor makes her debut today with solid works out of the sire 49er. She looks live to me and gets Bejarano to ride.... Beware! And Finally Orientatious rounds out the field. The daughter of Eclipse Award winner Orientate. She too has great works for her first start from the cozy outside post position. Moreover , the jockey title is heating up wih JR and Bejarano as there are only two more days left in this meet.
1. American Lady 2. Orientatious 3. Distorsionada
Race 5
A wide open turf race on the down hill turf course. Nothing To Fear was steadlied late finishing fourth behind Hot Citizen and Dislitleliteomine. She lost by only three lengths. Today will clear sailing she might turn the tables on both of these horses. Marty Jones trains her where she is seeking her first win on the turf. Hot Citizen defeated most of this field which includes Lite and Nothing To Fear and Lisa Lulu. She was claimed that day by old time trainer Eddie Truman who fires big time first off he claim. Check out who rides Hot Citizen Bejarano. Frequent Fame trained by Ted West almost beat West Ruler on this course on March 3rd. She fits with speed figures and class thereby making her a major contender in this race. Marrymeonemoretime switches to the dirt after looking good winning on dirt smoking a field of maidens. She ran a respectable first time out facing winners and facing a much better field then these. She just might be the horse to beat here! A interesting longshot is Merrytagio who tries the turf for the first time. She gets the acid test on class but she goes route to sprint with her dad as a big time turf sire D' Wildcat a stakes turf winner. A value bet maybe!
1. Marrymeomoretime
2. Hot Citizen
3. Frequent Fame
Race 6
A maiden sprint for the claiming price of $30K on the main track. R C Magic Amy a daughter of debut winner Trippi lures Bejarano to ride her. Enough said.... she has the workouts to fire first time out from the rail. Game Charmer is a contender and a no throw out as a first time starter. Her works are solid with Sutherland taking the call. Whoopsie trained by Baffert drops in class after pressing the pace in her second race of her career. Go Sophia warrants respect today which she adds the blinkers to her tricks which might just prove to be the key. Luckyvic did close after she walked out of the gate in her debut race. She adds the blinkers and there is no Chocalate Calente in this race. She's All Yours has been freshen up and should move forward. A interesting live first time starter that gets Martin P. is Sweet Siouxsie her mom has sent out debut winner first time out. Remember Spirit Of Cochise..... well.... do not take lightly her win early pedigree and a solid workout tab for Jack Carava.
1. Sweet Siouxsie 2. Luckyvic 3. RC Magic Amy
$20 place on 4
Race 7
A miler on turf for four year old for the claiming price of $40K.
Royce looks over match but really this dude has back class. His main rivals are on the outside Cahill Country and California Solider who should get most of the betting action in this race. Royce goes longer but remember last year when he almost beat Concord Point. He gets the acid test with the top two contender wih Cardiff Giant thrown in the mix.
1. Royce 2. California Solider 3. Cahill Country
Race 8
Kajiwara looked good winning on the turf on March 4th after nine months off for trainer Steve Asmussen. He has won on dirt!
Lunada Bay won here on Marc 12th for trainer Bob Baffert after his eight month off vacation. He must be respected as Bejarano rides.
This race is a wide open affair with Italian Rules as a contender. One of these days is the name of his tune.
Privilaged liked the wet track on Feb. 19th after seven months off. Check out his workout tab! Beware!
The pace looks fast and contested for Euroglide who has a fast turn of foot turning for home. He has not race in more then one year but is training lights out for Peter Eurton.... Booted rounds out the field who adde the blinkers his last race and showed major improvement.
1. Kajiwara 2. Lunada Bay
Race 9
A mile and a fourth on turf is the feature race The Santa Barbara a Grade two affair. The field includes:
1. Cozi Rosie has a killer turn of foot. She returned off a layoff and won the Grade two Buena Vista stakes on Feb 21st. She beat both Turning Top and Malibu Pier.
2. Malibu Pier finally stepped it up and showed her pedigree and class in winning her last race over Turning Top and Lilly La Pootz.
3. Calle Vista looks in form and fit. She gets the acid test in class with these runners. But she sure looked awesome getting up and beating Talktoomuch at the wire.
4. Andina ran third behind Calle Vista on Feb 13th. She has run with Cozie Rosy getting second last year.
5. Restless Soul has been freshened up for this race. She got third in this race last year..... appears to be up against it.
6. Turning Top..... she should love the added distance today. She just might turn the top on her rivals.
1. Cozi Rosie 2. Turning Top 3. Malibu Pier
Race 10
The nightcap is a maiden sprint for $30K. Kathy Walsh seldoms sents out maidens at this low level. So when she does take note she debuts Vumbura who is kin tp debut winner Esmerelda's who won first time out. Jade's Song switches stable to the redhot barn of Mike Puype. She has been freshen up and takes a big drop in class after finishing seventh in her first race at Hollywood Park. Queen's Dance is a daughter of the sire Unusal Heat........ take note and Fanning is a old time trainer that knows how to fire first out. Key Allegro a first time starter has a fast four furlong drill...... Her mom is a daughter to Eclipse Award winner Key ToThe Mint. Savy Secret a interesting longshot pressed the pace then faded. She should be fitter this time around. Another first time starter is Warren's Doctor kin to first time out winner Proudest Moment. She looks live here! Easy On My Heart gets off the rail and moves way down in class. Victor E. is the trainers main man.
1. Vumbura 2. Jade's Song 3.Easy On My Heart
