SATURDAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

                            SANTA ANITA PARK

MOTHER RUTH BY DAVID MORANT

Race 1

It's hard not to like She's Very Rare trained by Mike Mitchell who drops her for the money run at seven furlongs. She will need a fast pace to run at.  Zippin E with Tripped The Light will provide a fast pace along the Sunny Peace. Cato Major with She's Very Rare will roll late turning for home. It's hard to trust anyone in this field... Pass!

    1. She's Very Rare  2. Cato Major  3. Zippin E

Race 2

Dazzling Display on paper looks to be the filly to beat here. She posted a big speed number which towers over this field.  Tell A Kelly finished behind her on her debut. So Please take note! Ready for a smasher I expect.  Jardella trained by Sadler looks to sit right off the pace. She is a contender. Both first time starter look live! Sea Song Grace and David Hoffman's filly It's Candy Time. I always give a long look at a Candy Ride FTS.  Time Count's trained by Asmussen has been given 7 months off.  Her speed figures are somewhat low compared to Dazzling Display and Jardella.

     1. Dazzling Display
     2. Sea Song Grace
     3. It's Candy Time

Race 3

Burns had a somewhat troubled trip his last race. Tab the jockey switch to Go-Go coupled with taking the blinkers off for the first time.  Don'tmesroundwithjim looks to be the speed of this one mile turf race. I expect Excelling to be on the lead with Jim. Excelling was the beaten favorite in his last race. A valid excuse I want to say...... but quite frankly he threw in the towel down the back-stretch. I love what Hoffendorfer has put into him concerning his fast bullet works. He was probadly disappointed with his last race. Powerofvoodoo a head case but does return to the turf. Pass! Warren's Kong is a interesting gelding trained by Jack Van Berg. He is still learning how to run. On his best day he might turn it around. He did beat Jim on turf in a maiden race but then things turned sour for him after breaking his maiden. A modest field in a wide open race.

           1. Burns  2. Absolutlypositivity 3. Dont mess Jim

Race 4

The Las Flores Grade 3 is the featured race. The distance of six and a half furlongs for fillies and mares is the condition. Bob Baffert  sends out three of the six runners Today. The speed looks to have Candy's Pleasure on the front end. The question is one of class. Broken Dreams is a awesome turf sprinter but can she turn her tactical speed over to the main track is the question.  Silver Swallow has won a cool half million dollars. She is a true pro hitting the board in most of her races. Can she turn it around and beat Mother Ruth which she has not done before after two races racing with her. A coin flip with Mother Ruth and Gilded Gem........ a nod to Mother Ruth over Gilded Gem. Bafferts other entry...... Subsidzed looked awesome winning at Fairplex last year. She has been training at Hollywood and not Santa Anita is my concern. But having said this look who shows up to ride.... Bejarano.....Fun Race to watch and bet. My pick is Broken Dreams if she runs back to her last race with Unzip Me. She looks tough!

   1. Broken Dreams  2. Mother Ruth  7. Gilded Gem

Race 5

Carlsbad Lagoon trained by Howard Zucker is hitting at 70% when he goes to dirt to turf... so take note with Mike Smith riding this son  of Unusal Heat. It looks like on paper that it is Visual Intensity has the upper hand on the speed with the leading rider re-riding him.  I expect Joe will have to send him quick to the lead from the outside post. If not he will be carried wide losing valuable ground. Not a good thing! Cat Talk has a ton of trouble his last race....... he can slip behind the rabbits and pick off the horses one by one with Gomez re-riding him. A Major Player. Cantona I know it is his 17th start......... but he gets back on the turf....... He does have to good turn of foot down the lane. Moreover, his odds might be double digit.... a good value play! Praise For Dubai should not be over-looked as he can move forward with a race under his belt. He should relish the distance and surface. Tribal Nation is the live longshot with P-Val taking over for Gomez. I like this dude at Del Mar..... He does have the garden spot the rail to save ground.

    1. Visual Intensity  2. Tribal Nation  3. Cantona

     Live Cat Talk with Go-Go

Pick Three
5th   1,3,4,5,6,7,9,10
6th            5
7th         1,2,5

Race 6

Toro Trippi looked great beating up on 10K claimers on Jan 30th at this very meet. She looks spotted for a money run but does have the rail so she must clear early. Remember  that these are four year old fillies..... age restricted here!

Take A Hard Look by Rock Hard Ten faced older horses at a higher level then these. She should be a mid-pack closer who if the speed melts down has a decent turn of foot. My Johnny Cash takes off the blinkers by a cagey trainer who steps up this dude to $12,500... a turf paradise invader. Five Star Fortune come tagging along from Turf Paradise has speed and might get to the lead with Toro. She is a contender! Joyful Success trained by Peter Miller has tactical speed to sit right off the pace but with P-Val she will be in the game early. I like the workouts.... Beware! Flashy Green was bet down in his last race and he won with a decent turn of foot down at the wire. She has the garden spot to close but can she win back to back races is the question or will he regress. She is facing a much better crowd this time around.

    1. Joyful Success   2. Toro Trippi  3. Flashy Green

$20 win and place on 5

Race 7
A down the hill turf race for low-level sprinter! Queen Mariles and You Can Dream might hit the turf running out of the gates. It set's it up for maybe a closer that I like ...........El Nadia.......... with the other Golden Gate shipper Lit De Bet..... and Mike Mitchell horse Manhattan Beach who had to need his last race. He should move forward.

      1. El Nadia  2. Lit De Bet  3. Manhattan Beach

Pick Three      1,2,5 with  1,4,5 with 4,7

Race 8

A group of low level plodders does not get me excited. California Colonel get the rail and stretches out to two turn. I expect he will be on the lead. He can win this race if he gets a easy lead. If not then Hitus is the horse to fear at the winner's circle. No Lucky Fitz in this spot. Zula King has been training lights out for Bruce Headley Beware this one can come out blazing.....

    1. California Colonel  2. Zula King  3. Pen And Sword

P-3  1,4,5,8  with 4,7 with 4,7

Race 9

Separate Forest had a ton of troubled her last race with Good Vibrations........ hard to separate the two in this race.... both look good... The imports look spotted for action... Perfect Picture gets Lasix today and a ton of weight off from her last race in Ireland. Sneak Preview has not raced in 2 years which suggests that she might need a race over the tricky down hill track. She gets a perfect post to get the job done. The filly to fear might be West Ruler who beat a easier field but looks to have found a home on the down the hill turf track. She has the look of a talented star.

     1. West Ruler    2. Sneak Preview

Race 10

Cabo San Lucas had the prefect trip ........ and gave it up down the stretch. He drifted out which is a sign I do not like. Dancing Yolder drops in class to face a easier bunch. He gets the leading rider JR. Me Salty takes off the blinkers for Victor Garcia. He looks spotted to run his race. I like the last blow-out.

      1. Me Salty  2. Dancing Yolder  3. Cabo San Lucas
