SUNDAY SANTA ANITA PARK

                        SANTA ANITA PARK

BRIECAT BY DAVID MORANT
                          No Turf Races

Race 1

A short sprint  maiden race is the first race on today's card. Brayden Buddy most likely will be the favorite. This 5 year old has been off more then a year. Cerin trains and I expect with P-Val gunning it to the front end. This horse will be over-bet. I like the outside horse trained by Doug O'Neil Excusemecomingthru. He drops in class. Gifted Student fits in back-class and speed figures. He needs to clear from the rail. Do not take lightly El Gran Matador trained by Dan Hendricks with Atkinson in the irons. If he runs back to his March 1st workout he will win this sprint race. (6f 1:11/4). Take a long look at El Gran during pre-race warm ups. He just might be a horse that offers value in the place pools.

Race 2

Roulete It Roll tab the switch to Pat Valenzuela. She might be sent to the lead with a double drop in price. This race came up light on early pace. I except Banana Cream Pie will close when they turn for home. This marino Marini filly was claimed by Mike Mitchell which looks like a good investment because she has hit the board 7 out of 8 times. Jack Carava is hitting at 25% of the times when he claims a horse so take note. My longshot is La Talia in this race.

    1. Banana Cream Pie  2. Meter Me Gone  3. Roulette It Roll

Race 3

Bryan Daniels looks spotted to run a big race. He drops in class. He must clear from the rail is the main concern. He looks like he will graduate with this field. He beat the Fever he last race and he came back and won! He main rival is Popular Cause dropping from races that are much better then this race. He goes route to sprint coupled with adding the blinkers for the first time and switching surfaces to the dirt. Eyesablazin a phone trick colt has the pedigree to win eaarly. He is bred for speed. I expect he will move forward with a race under his belt. Titan has been a money pit at the betting windows. He will take action today.

   1. Bryan Daniels   2. Eyesablazin

Race 4    Off The Turf

Great betting race down the hill with a fairly large field. Sassou claimed for 50K by Ted West is seeking his fourth straight win on turf. He has been freshen up for his first start for West's stable. The pace looks fairly mild but contested with Burj Duabi battling the front end with Sassou. The rest of the field looks to be mid-pack closers. Dapper Gene has been red hot in the claim box. His last win he looked awesome being well-clear of any horse down to the wire. Cherokee Heaven almost beat the hot horse Earnednevergiven who runs today. That makes him a instant contender! Details R Sketchy almost beat Sassou in that Jan 28th down the hill race. Bestdressed won his 32K claimer. He is a threat beware! Skyrush goes from route to sprint. He might be placed to low....... and be very deadly. He will be closing fast. Update later because the switch to the main track. Buri Duabi moves up with Details R Sketchy on dirt. Tab the switch.

Race 5

The weird aspect of this race is that most of these horses have been on the turf with no main track races except Ash Zee and Briecat and Church Camp. The pace looks fast with plenty of speed signed up for this route stakes race. I Can Here looks to over her head in this spot. Jax El has gas with a field filled with speed. Burg Berg has speed! That takes me to my pick. Briecat is the class of the race. She has the right style to press the pace or make the lead from the sound of the starting bell.

     1. Briecat   2. Ash Zee   3. Burg Berg

     Longshot Church Camp

Race 6      Off The Turf

Fun betting race here! Exclamation might have found a home on the turf. Rosario climbs off but I still that this horse with a hungry jockey in the irons. Derive if fit after taking the summer off for Gary Stute looks spotted for action. Get Funky threw in a bad race but two races back  he won. He is a pro who just might be the class of the field. A stand-out..... but the caveat here is that he might have lost a step ot two. The Whammer tries the turf for the first time for Mike Mitchell. He has speed! Dance With Gable is the horse to fear. He drops another level after almost beating Dapper Gene. Pack Your Bags was claimed by Jack Carava who I have said is hitting at 25% off the claim. Hughessy is a head case after beating Champ Peg last year. He tries a new game sprinting down the hill. El Merito was the beaten favorite routing at this level last time out. He has been freshen up to try a new game here..... sprinting down the hill. A lightly race seven year old with problems but look please at the morning line of 20 to 1...... He has run with some tough customers...... much better then this company. He will be over-looked at the windows. He will be turning for home on the outside post and I expect with clear sailing he might light up the tote board. I'm taking a shot with El Merito. This company has no scary monsters! Update after scratches....... later in the day

    1. The Whammer  2. Derive  3.Exclaimation

Pick Four

6th         5
7th     1,6,9,10
8th     2,3,4,5,6
9th        7,10          Cost $20

Race 7

I love the way Top Debutante looked winning her first race. She is a half sister to EZ Dreamer. She has a bright future and is seeking her second straight win. This race came up deep with future stars. Hailey D' Oro trained by Asmussen out of Medaglia D'Oro returns to a sprint where she smoked a field at first asking. Beware as Mike Smith takes the call.

Rumor the 8 to 5 favorite has the buzz on her back in this race. She ran into Kilogreme who beat Rumor in her second career start. The sad news is Kilogreme had a freak accident and died. Rumor is a talented horse with a bright future as well.  Great Hot trained by AC is the unknown dark horse with blazing fast morning drills for her US debut.... I respect she might be very live here!

   1. Top Debutante  2. Hailey D' Oro  3. Great Hot

Race 8        Off The Turf

Earnednevergiven a complete professional from the Machowsky barn. He drops out of a stakes race to face this field of optional claimers. He just wins races! Streakin Mohican goes to the turf for the first time. He is the speed of the race and the likely favorite at post time. He should relish the turf with his pedigree of Unbridled Song. Norvsky has not run since last year. Do not take this guy lightly. He looks fit with a solid very solid morning workout tab. It looks like he can fire fresh here. A horse that I have had on my watch list is Face For An Ace who last time we saw he was running in stake races........ I thought highly of him last year.

   1. Streakin Mochican    2. Earnednevergiven 3. Camp Victory

Face For A Ace might like the dirt.

Race 9

This is a bad race. The top contenders might just be Ribald who looks old and just might have found a field he can beat. B's Lucky Strike another head case that on his best day can take this race.  Cue In in is coming back after taking time off for a cagey trainers that usually has them fit and ready to fire there best shot. Catastaire has never faced company this low. I like him in this spot for the Deleon's stable.

     1. Catastaire
