THURSDAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

                            HOLLYWOOD PARK
COST OF FREEDOM BY DAVID MORANT

Good Afternoon!  The last week at Hollywood for the 2010 season. Saturday the juvenile fillies in the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet displayed there talent. Turbulent Descent by the sire Congrats was three wide in the stretch then kick it in to another gear. A superstar emerged! Turbulent Descent trained by Mike Puype is undefeated after her third start. I think she might take a trip back east after spending some down time on the west coast.

Grade 1 Cost Of Freedom looked awesome winning last weekend.  The Cee's Tizzy gelding looks to be the fastest sprinter on the West Coast. Next stop Santa Anita.

Race 1        One Mile Sixteenth Maiden 32K

A number of class droppers enters this maiden route race. Call Me Later stretches out after sprinting.  He has 4 seconds out of seven races. A Gilded Time colt trained by Dan Hendrick is ridden by Joel Rosario looks ready to graduate. But beware of the other class droppers like Diamond Touch who has faced open straight maiden company. He has routed for John Sadler with Victor Esponza calling the shots. All Stews Star drops from open straight maiden company. He stretches out with the pedigree to relish the added distance. O'Neil and Gomez team up. Real Friend drops for Jackson. He takes off the blinkers and one race does not make a career. Check out his long drills in the morning time. I think this is a wide open maiden route with a number of horses with the right pedigree to win this race.

  1. Call Me Later  2. All Stews Stars  3. Diamond Touch

Race 2        Six Half Furlongs Claimer 25K

Master Chef I have followed last winter at Santa Anita. He takes a drop and the good point is that he runs fresh off the bench. Checkout his Sunday workout which tells me he is ready to run a strong race with Gomez in the irons. Rent Paid like Master Chef has been facing much tougher. The deadly trainer and jockey hook up again....... the stat's of Hoffendorfer and Bejarano connecting is 25% of the time at this meet. The scary horse with the workouts in the morning time is Obess. He likes this distance and he is scary at this level. P-Val will send this cat!  Vulcan had to need a race or two to get fit. He got beat by Obess his last time out. He can turn the tables on this group....... He beat straight open company when he got his diploma in 08. He then faced much better horses then this field. John Sadler is putting short blow outs in the morning to get him to show more speed. He is a live longshot!

   1. Master Chef  2. Rents Paid 3. Vulcan

    Obess has a look!

Race 3        Six Furlongs Claimer 25K

Meter Me Gone trained by Peter Miller has faced tougher company. She looks fit after 2 good thirds after running into Banana Cream Pie and Bella Palooza and Lift Our Luck. Joel Rosario re-rides this 2 year old filly. Forty Paces ran 5th against Bella Palooza in the race that Meter Me Gone got third. She fits and Bejarano jumps on. Tab the upgrade in jockeys. Katy's Kitty might be the horse to fear after her first start vs. starter allowance company on October 15th. She then tried Stakes company on turf. A failed experiment. Beware she adds blinkers today and takes a big drop in company. Poison Kiss smoked a weak field of maidens like Pacific Coast Girl. She looked awesome whipping this group. She looks live if the speed melts down then she will be reeling in the rabbits. The upsetter might be horse on the outside post position Que Pronto. She exits a key maiden race in which Portland and Real Rockport I think came back and won or ran a respectable next race. She can win this race. A wide open affair starting the Pick Six. Brazzle Dazzle exits a highly rated race for 20K. If she can clear from the rail she looks live. The race sets up for a closer. Poison Kiss fits this bill!

Race 4        Six Furlongs Turf Maiden Special

First.... This.... race is contentious and every horse in this sprint turf race can win....... no pretenders. The speed looks to be Candace Gold with Officer Leah will contest for the led at the quarter and half mile pole. Candice Gold tried turf and a route for the first time. She faded. She then tried a sprint race and used that prep to almost win getting a close third. Officer Leah has gas and will go as far as she can. Others look better to me like Milliondollarbill as a two year old was well bet her first race back east. She has been off for a year but with the pedigree and the semi bullet morning drill going five furlongs...... well beware! Elusive Cookies will try to reel in the speed on the outside post position. She needs to get to the rail and save ground so she does not lose ground on the first turn. She will be flying late at the wire. Catchy Tune has a number of betting angles. The pedigree and shortening up from a route to sprint. She adds blinkers for the first time. The connections is first rate and have been a blessing to this game. As for first time starters the Broad Bush filly Orfano should love the turf with her pedigree. Look who rides for Doug O'Neil. Joel Rosario rides this live first time starter.   After a head twister of a turf sprint I have focused on a horse that has run races that fits...Givemeonereason.

 1.  Candice Gold  2. Givemeonereason 3. Orfano

Race 5        Five Half Optional Claimer

A tough and contentious field is sprinting on the cushion track in this optional claimer for a price of $80K.

1. Miles Be Gone who beat a strong field of $50K maidens. He was claimed from Jerry Hoffendorfer by Hector Palma. The good news is his pedigree..... by Candy Ride with the ground saving rail trip which is hitting at 25%.  P-Val re-rides. His speed figures are modest.

2. Drink At Buster's first sprint at this very track he beat a strong restricted maiden special weight Cal. field. He beat 3 horses who have come out of that race and have won. His speed figures are strong and solid. He looks live!

3. Mr Artistic MD looked great beating a open company maiden special weight field........... He was well backed in his debut at 3 to 5. He has been freshen up and Joel Rosario re-rides this blue-blood. Remember no tag in his return!

4. Gibson Home Run ....... great to see the class hike in price. He beat of field of $25K claimers his last race fairly easy.  Mix signals here ..... Patrick goes to Miles Be Gone.

5. Real Cool Dude which might be overlooked by the public. He beat a strong field of runners his last race. He beat ten horses.........

6. Ominous Thomas is the new face in the crowd. Bejarano rides for Cerin V. He has been freshen up with plenty of morning work outs!....... A Contender!

7. Leon Ayala won his debut at Santa Anita. He was fairly beaten by Gibson Home Run....... a minor award but needs to improve to beat this field........ He still can turn the career around.

1.Mr Artistic MD 2. Drink At Buster's 3. Real Cool Deal

  New Face..... Ominous Thomas......

Race 6        Seven Furlongs Claimer 32K

The only reason I did not take Marquet Rebel as my top pick his last race was the Knapp the ice cold trainer. He looked great smoking a field of $16K claimers. Adding the blinkers did the trick. Knapp double hikes Marquet Rebel. A Player and contender to win this. Two class droppers look live to me.....Bestdressed and Cape Truth.  If fit both of these horses can win this race. The horse that might be overlooked by the public is Jerry Fanning's horse Booyah. He has gas and backclass to win this. Check out his last workout for Fanning who usually trains them slow. Cape Truth has been blazing fast workouts in the morning. It seems that Bad LeRoy Brown might have lost a step or two. But this dude has earned $400K. The distance is ideal for this closer if the speed melts down on the front end. A good betting race for the public.

   1. Booyah  2. M Rebel  3. Cape Truth

Race 7        One Mile Sixteenth Turf Allowance

If Westwood Pride brings her A game then she looks to be the horse to beat. She has been a gamer switching to the turf. This field has some tough customers. Hemera showed up at Del Mar and was a gamer with she ran with Malibu Pier. She is trained by Jerry Hoffendorfer and Corey rides for this baby of Maria's Mon. Great Pedigree on turf. Talktoomuch is in form and fit. She loves the track after posting 5 wins out of 7 races at Hollywood Park! A top contender. Michael's Rose should love the cut back in distance. I expect she might outrun her odds. She has been training excellent for her comebacker. Bran Jammas beat Ultra Blend at Del Mar in the Solana Beach. If she runs that race again....... she is the upsetter but the main question is one of fitness. She has been off since August. I like her morning workout drills.

  1. Bran Jammas  2.Westwood Pride  3. Talktoomuch

  Hemeas......... top contender!

Race 8        Six Half Furlongs Claimer 8K

This just might be the toughest field of $8K claimers this year at Hollywood. It looks like the three top contenders is Bad Boy with Streets Of Heaven and Bandiera Union. Hard to beat against Bad Boy. He is a win machine at Hollywood. He is looking for his fifth straight win. I'm jumping on the dropper from the rail Majestic Diamond who is putting on blinkers for the first time. The other horse I like is Dee Dee's Legacy who always fires big and had to need his last race.

    1. Bad Boy 2.Majestic Diamond  3. Dee Dee's Legacy
