THURSDAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

Good Afternoon Readers and Good Luck in a somewhat confusing races filled with fillies and mares.

Race 1          Six Furlong Claimer 20K

Brazzle Dazzle  drops in class with a small field and other front runner. Jenny Jenny Emily looks to be the speed of this race. If the pace scenario unfolds with Brazzle Dazzle and Jenny Jenny Emile then look to Warren's Lover who is dropping into a claiming race after facing better. She will try to reel in the speed at the top of the lane. Do not dismiss Brazzle Dazzle she can let Jenny go and she too can reel in the front runner. Excellent Point who is on the rail raced in the Cal Cup Juvenile filly race. This is a different can of oats and I expect we might see the real deal with Excellent Point, a Point Given Filly with no front speed but she will be closing!

Race 2         One Mile Sixteenth Maiden 25K

One of these strange days a song by the "Doors" will win this group of suspect runners. It might just be Long Legged Lovely who looks like a cheap hanger down the stretch. The problem I see is she is on the outside post and Bejarano will have to send her early or get caught losing ground going wide on the first turn. She is a filly who  dueled with Warren's Rose who came back and won. She is a major player but she has two negative spins........ one is her post position and the other is that she hangs down the lane.  She will be well bet today! Zippin E is the scary horse to fear in this bottom feeder level. Mike Mitchell trains her and the tenth time facing much better company might just be what she needs today. She has speed and can get the distance and it looks to me like the money run for her. Pegastorm takes off the blinkers she has the pedigree of a blue blood to win this! Lovely Sophie is a contender dropping out of a special maiden race to face this level where she has almost won. My wacko pick was Beachfront her first race who just ran around the track like a public outing. She tries two turns today! The trainer at Del Mar hooked up with some bombs........... and so just do not dismiss Beachfront in outrunning her odds today.
Another horse that I like is Image of Super who stretches out today is a pure sprinter suggests she will relish the distance. She takes a double dip drop ......say that fast..... in class today and the key might just be she adds the blinkers and just might be the front runner and tells this group come catch me. Her main rival is Long Legged Lovely.

Race 3     Five Furlongs Turf Maiden Special

River's Mambo has the edge on racing experience on paper in this race. She is the only filly in this race facing males. Her first race on the poly track was awesome getting third behind My Day Rose and Candy Ridden. Walther Solis can flat get the babies to run. She shortens up to five furlongs with speed. She should relish the grass by the sire Indian Charlie. Shelter Cove adds blinkers for the first time for trainer Doug O'Neil. P-Val will sent him to the lead to try to steal this race. The pace scenario to me looks like River's Mambo will reel him in at the top of the lane. Ransom Demand  with a race under his belt getting a respectable third is a major player! He was well bet in her debut so take warning. Richard Mandella rarely has babies in his stable and he has the patience to wait till they are ready to rock and roll. Ten Devils by Rock Hard Ten out of the dam Diablo who relishes the grass acts and looks like a lively first time starter. Check out how many works Mandella has put into him to get her ready. Never dismiss a In Excess filly trained by a cagey trainer from up north Scott Hansen who knows how to get them fit and ready. His name is Kingpin Ryno.

Race 4     Stakes Seven Half Furlongs

A short field of six enters this stakes race... Let's have Jay Trotter tells us about the entries:

1. Leothelion.........is trained by Mike Puype and he changes it up some with the addition of blinkers. He was gelded according to the Daily Racing Form his last race. I expect he will be more focus down the backstretch. He has great two year old speed numbers. His best race was his second race when he almost beat Concord Point. He has speed which he will need on the rail. He has been freshened up for 48 days and his last series of works indicate because of the long six furlong drill that he is fit.

2. Paris Vegas....... looks like the one to fear because of his speed numbers jump off the page. The speed monkey's will hammer this one to 6 to 5. This is a ideal distance for him but my concern is he is a one dimensional speed rabbit with other speed signed on in this race. "Come Catch Me is the name of this tune".

3. Indian Firewater.........should relish the distance for Bob Baffert who trains him. He has both pure speed or can wait and sit right off the pace and reel in the horses one by one at the wire. You have to love a horse that has hit the board in 10 times out of 11. My main concern is that he has not stepped up a won more then he has. He gets second way too many times for my money. He is going to run his third race off a short lay off which usually means he runs his best performances. He did get beat by Thomas Blain who is in this race.

4. Our Minesweeper...........ran a good race his first race after a lay off. He has a big speed number off that race from Golden Gate. This might be the classic bounce or then he might improve and if he does he will be scary down the lane. He has both speed and tactical speed to win this....... He is the class of the race.

5. Thomas Baines........ looks the part of a very talented colt who is getting more mature and game. This gelding has had 3 months off for this race. He is trained by Doug O'Neil and Bejarano takes the call. He has a excellent workout in his last morning drills which indicates to me that he is ready for a big performance today. He is a mid pack closer and if he needs to be neat the front end that is no problem with him. He has beaten two of the horses in this field. He is looking today from the hat track of three straight wins.

6. Gallant Gent the horse that under performs...... Thanks that he is getting off the turf because that experiment he was batting zero's. He has not won this year and his last win was in 09. Do not put too much stock into this because on his best days he can close with the best of this quality of horses. He is no throw out if the speed melts down then Thomas and The Gent might duke it out at the wire. He has ran with some of the best like the Candy and Lookin At Lucky when is was 2 years old. He seems to be a lack the heart but winning a race with this field will turn around a poor year for a talented gelding. And please remember he does like the cushion track and Hollywood.

Our Minesweeper is the horse to fear after a great looking stakes win over a good field of older horses after a five month layoff.  The distance is ideal for him and is the class of this race. Bounce or Regress after a win!

Race 5      Six Furlongs Turf Claimer 32K

This turf sprint is contentious and wide open field:

1. Tamerin....... Trained by Mike Mitchell with Joe Talamo in the irons. Her speed numbers in 09 would likely crush this field.. She has speed with tactical speed and can sit off the pace. This is her second race after her lay off from September at Del Mar. You can tell by her lack of starts that she does have fitness issues. But having said that at this 32K claiming level she is a player! She is the speed of this race! She might not look back! Beware!

2. Flashy Traveler ridden by Mike Smith and trained by a good trainer from up north Leo Powell. It's hard to get a handle on this 4 year old filly. She is a mid pack closer with slightly low speed numbers compared to this field. But with Smith riding he thinks she has a shot! She is no win machine and way too many thirds to my liking.

3. Angel Before Us ridden by a good turf rider Blanc and trained by a underrated trainer who can flat out get them to fire and win. His name is Victor Garcia. Beware! She is a better turf horse then a cushion track type. What I like about her is her closing style with a field of runners that are signed up to break out of the gate and be one dimensional speedsters. Her last race was quite frankly dull and bad.

4. Our Road Scholar on October 28th at Hollywood on turf ran in the same condition as today and ran a respectable second. She seems to be a hanger of late.  David Flores rides for A.C. Avila. He had a excellent meet this spring meet at Hollywood. Del Mar not so much. A Player if the speed melts down.

5. Ashlee was in the same race as Our Road Scholar and she finished  in a blanket finish with Road and Entabeni who is in this race. She was in tight in traffic during her last turf start so she was flying late.  Her closing style fits this race to a perfect score if she can stay out of trouble. The bad news is the bounce theory will she improve or regress is the issue here. I think she will improve.

6. Forty Date gets the bug boy with weight off and Marty Jones finds a way to get his horses fit and in form to win. She started her career in the great northwest. Her 2 year old speed number are high. She was claimed by Marty a year ago for 50K. Something was not right about her because of the year lay off. But Marty is a trainer who is patience with his horses giving them time off to heal and get ready to ramble. She is the unknown X factor 10 starts 3 wins and 5 seconds is the name of that tune! It is hard to get a handle of her work outs since they appear to be modest. If she is fit she looks scary to me!

7. Entabeni trained by John Sadler and JR re-rides her today.
A stone cold closer  and fits at this level. She has a sharp November five furlong work out to get her ready. A major player!  A improving horse is always scary when he ran a great race having trouble last time.

8. She's Very Rare trained by Warren and my main man is up. She looks like only a minor ward but with Warren and Alonso as the trainer and jockey team I do not dismiss this long shot! Her speed numbers back in 09 indicates that she has talent and is starting her third start after a lay off.

9. Powerofvoodoo is a horse that I have followed as she shortens up in distance today!  Runnin Em Abrams and Bejarano teams up. She is a under performer....... and has been a disappointment to me.. I thought that she would climb the class ladder and win more....... which she has not done. The scary angle is that she goes from route to a sprint and this is her second race after a short layoff....... maybe she a better sprinter then router.......She has never sprinted before. A great angle to bet if the speed melts down.

Race 6   One Mile Sixteenth Claimer 12K

It looks like a for sale sign around the neck of  Sindyfromsantacruz. She gets off the turf and gets on the cushion track. Mike Mitchell has dropped horses like this one and has won. He has used this trick before in the past. The pace scenario looks to have Hidden Romance and Ms Margarville on the front end. It looks like the pace will be contested with Musical Grace as one of the front runners. If the pace is hot and fast therefore the rabbits meltdown then beware of Sheeza Beast. Tab the jockey switch indicates to me that she is ready to reel in horses one by one down the stretch. Sweetsouthernqueen claimed after a nice looking win after from the king of claimers Mike Mitchell. I like her stepping up 2 levels. She has the pace scenario on her side with a ample enough of speed signed up in this race. A major Contender! Twodollarstowin steps up in class after a win. She has the same running style as Sweet Queen and with JR in the irons will most likely be closing late.

Race 7   One Mile Sixteenth Allowance Turf

A wide open turf race for fillies and mares. I Can Hear You has faced better horses. She was in deep water in a 100K dollars stakes race but finished a respectable fifth. If she can repeat her performance in her June win on this track she can win this. The horse that I have followed and bet is Naughty Mariana. The question is the distance but I expect her to run big today. The unknown X factor is the new face from the Midwest Rainbow Luck. Looks who takes her over and is the trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. If the speed meltdown and there is plenty of front runners in this group the pace scenario sets it up for a closer. A interesting long shot is First Settler who is trained by Neil Drysdale. A War Chant filly who broke her maiden at this track and course. She needed a freshening up after a dull race facing winners for the first time. I expect her to
outrun her odds. I loved the way Kicken It won her maiden race and she has the talent to jump the class ladder quickly....... A Major contender in a race filled with unknowns. A great betting race for the public.

              1. I Can Hear You  2. Naughty Marina  3. Kicken It

First Settler and  Rainbow Luck in pick three

   $20 Win/Place  3     Three won !

Race 8      Five Half Maiden 32K

A fun and final race to watch the babies sprint. A difficult wide open race! Miss Marsha Lee has been freshened up for six months by Lewis Ceinicola. He puts on blinkers on her after she had a debut facing maiden special weight fillies breaking slowly and almost winning the race. Her second start was pitiful with one valid excuse that I can see. She was on the rail at Hollywood. That might be the reason she needed time off....... to mature more........... Lewis does have patience with the babies. The old adage goes two races do not make a career and I expect she will improve big time with this group. Pacific Coast Girl might just be the speed of this race. Come Catch Me.......she drops and shortens up.... she just might go gate to wire. Onion Rings will try to reel in Pacific Coast Girl. Sean S exits a key maiden live race when she pressed the pace and faded to fourth. Three horses out of that race came back and won. I love the first time starter of Carson City Poison Kiss who is bred for speed. Lara Antipova ships in from Golden Gate and get a top jockey tells me that she might just be live........ This a difficult race to end today's card.
